This film is the compiled version of the Gateway to the Arctic series we released last winter. Over the years we've found re-uploading the expedition series' as one mega video helps reach a larger audience and is more searchable than individual chapters. Hope y'all enjoy...again :)
This was easily one of our generation's finest wilderness trip documentaries. Anyone who sees this will understand the cultural significance of canoe tripping in Canada.
This is my first trip to the artic... from my sofa, very few bugs, portages, or wind, just an amazing adventure following you, admiring your courage, viewing all this cool landscape, filmed and edited with lots of patience... Alors BRAVO et MERCI 😊
I watched the individual posts and was amazed. Man, what a trip! What massive fish! Just a massive amount of ice! The one little island surround by rocks (Spoiler Alert!) still comes to mind every so often. And, I also really appreciate your geologic education for us all!
I just finished watching the original Quebec/Labrador trip to Nain and then this video and the contrast between the two groups could not be more stark. The original group was magical. You guys pounded through absolutely horrific conditions and always kept your spirits up. The portages, bugs and obstacles were 10x worse than this trip, yet the team remained remarkably unified and upbeat. The morale on the trip was spectacular and the viewer could feel the unique, special quality of the group. Remember the group hugs at the end? Remember the way you dealt with a broken tooth, diarrhea, sprained ankle? You (and we) never wanted that trip to end. It was amazing. This team was dismal throughout. The negative vibe pervades this video. It was intensely depressing.
I am currently reading The Land of Feast and Famine by Helge Ingstad. He ventured in the same areas as you, in the late 1920s, hunting his own food and ocationally living alongside native tribes. Its so cool actually seeing footage from these places!
Although I’d love to visit the Canadian arctic and the other places you show us,I don’t think I’d ever be able to see these places in person.I appreciate your videos.i live thru you guys.im sure its super hard to carry around all your equipment, especially on portages. So thank you for making these videos.i really appreciate it.
thank you. I've been ill mostly in bed for last three weeks and this was such a treat to go on your journey - that I could never do - you're all such entertaining company and most of all the love of this land and it's fauna and flora and geology really make it a special treat to watch. very moving actually. thanks to all of you.
I love your trips and if I can control myself, I’ll wait til the series is over and watch one after another. That way you don’t lose context either. Thanks for this.
I dont think words can describe how I feel after watching this. Thank you to all 4 of you for this epic journey you shared with us. This is one of my favorite youtube channels!
I'm sure I'm not the first to ask...why the other main homie is no longer on the channel. Don't get me wrong...love the east coast vibe and 100% east coast content. As someone who lives in Ontario and knows won't do as well out east in my field but is just looking for every excuse to take the jump out east....I get to live vicariously through channels like this.
Wow! What an adventure! Beautifully shot, well detailed, it was simply stunning to watch. Bravo for this adventure in such wild and raw terrain. I really enjoyed watching this wonderful video.
Having someone that knows so much about geology must be awesome on a trip. Like I'd like someone who knows how all this stuff works like periglaciation like who knows that. I love nerds they are the best!!
You guys are the best!💪showing our wonderful outdoors, waterways, landscapes and it’s historical significance! Thanks for all your hard work! Greatest fishing ever 🎣☮️🇨🇦💜
A wonderful video from filming to narration. Incredible views with accompanying details that had us interested throughout. What an adventure. Many thanks for posting.
Amazing trip and fun to see it all in this mega format!! Hoping you all are plotting your next adventure!! Much gratitude for bring us along :-) 💜 Barret
Truly an amazing documentary guys! Such great detail on the edited especially the written explanations. I am so proud to have you guys as a maritime neighbor. Just beautiful my friends…💙💙
Watched the series a few weeks ago and I was blown away! Really hope to see a part II where you guys make it to the end. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Absolutely the BEST of the BEST! It’s all about the journey and the friendship that has been established! It is so precious what we experience in the outback…something most folks cannot appreciate or don’t want to appreciate! So many blessings for you and us as well on TY! Thank you all so much!😎
Freaking epic! The tone of the trip changed so much when you made that decision, and boy the fish, wow! For a while I was thinking, "long hike, too bad they have to carry those canoes", but that's too glib for such a magnificent journey. Weird wolf, eh? "Bug madness"? Mange? I wonder.
This seemed like a wonderful, epic, hard, rewarding, journey - putting you and the gear to the test. But, what makes this piece realy interesting is, that none of you 4 wants to stand out, but you all shine for yourselves. And, also, you do not do that sponsor-thing like "look at that excavator we brought with us from suchAndsuch and it realy helped us a lot".... Thanks from a viewer, that spends a lot of time here around and watched almost all of the 4-38 hour. Epic, can not drill it down to something other than epic.
Whoever built that yoke made a mistake. It broke right with the grain. That's going to be aggravating for the rest of the trip. The fishing was phenomenal. Those Lakers were nice. Very challenging trip. Nicely done.
Exceptional video! I watched the original series when it came out but seeing it as a full length docco was awesome! Can’t wait for the next epic adventure! All the best from down under.👍😎
Awesome video. I loved all of the canoeing and exploring, but the most epic part was working to summit the dangerous and treacherous mountain peaks between the lakes at 3:39:43.
Absolutely awesome video ,i watched the earlier series loved it and this one as well. What an amazing place so beautiful and peaceful.Really enjoy Noahs knowledge and description of the terrain Great accomplishment guys and thanks for sharing!
GGreat video! I really enjoyed the original videos. You've done a really great editing job. The first Nations clips were very enjoyable along with the geological explanations. The First Nation sites really made me appreciate their claims regarding the Earth. I've commented before that you guys are not "sub" anyone else and should be doing this full time. Thank you and keep it up,
Any plans to do another big adventure this year Noah? Loved watching this crew when the series originally came out, would be awesome to see you guys do something else. Such a remote and unique place made for a really cool film
Wow wow wow What a great expedition - that laker was HUGE!! So lucky to have the time and the friends to accomplish trips like these. ❤ I get a free month off and planning a big trip - most likely solo as I have a tough time finding “hardcore” friends to take on these multi day trips :)
Love. Thank-you for bringing me out of my ordinary life. I wish I was young again to be able to do this. Have a great day! The fishing moments are extraordinary, the barking song was very original, lol, the musical moments magical and the hard physical moments make us realise who the men are out there. Thank-you. Have a great day! 🙂
Amazing video so far, i just started watching, all itchy now lol. I wonder how many mosquitoes LIKE and FOLLOW you guys lol, :P Looks like an amazing camping/canoeing adventure :)
The second time I have watched this, well I watched the individual episodes first but I like the long format better. Thank you Noah for the Geology lessons as well! Your videos are entertaining and educational as well!
Beautiful adventure with its challenges but with interesting unique area,s everyone being different Those fish were epic as was seeing the wildlife .Loved loved that island campsite that was very cool indeed . Nice hearing about the Geography of the area Noah , always love it in school. Excellent documentary loved it !
Being an Esquif Prospectour - canoeist myself, I have to ask. You used Canyons on crossing to Labrador and now Prospectour 17, why the shift and how did you feel about that in retrospect? Which one suits your trips better? Was the expected amount of whitewater the primary cause for Canyons at Labrador and now vv. P17?
Generally I find the Canyons are better in whitewater and slower on flat lakes (and vice-versa). I would lean towards a Prospectour on lake heavy trips and Canyons on Whitewater heavy trips, though both work just fine in either condition
Thank you for the great work you guys do! I would appreciate your opinion. I want to buy an Esquif canoe for tripping; 75% Class I to class III rivers, and 25% flat water such as the Okefenokee swamp. I am trying to decide between the Prospecteur 17 and the Canyon. I know the Canyon would hold an edge on moving waters, but I am wondering how exhausting the Canyon would be to paddle on the flat-water... If you could only have one of the two boats for what I described, which one would you choose?.. How does the Canyon and the Prospecteur 17 compare in primary & secondary stability?
At the end when you were dragging canoes through the tundra it looks like an easy flat terrain but here in Alaska that stuff is way rougher than it looks and can be very hard to walk through. But at least it's soft enough to drag a canoe. That poor moose was probably starving without any willow branches

It was around 6h no? So good
Tyvm !
Thank you.
Fabulous series. You guys are all hardcore. Thanks for sharing! Watched the original videos with fascination.
I just found this channel today & I'm going to happily watch every minute of this! So excited 👍 ❤😊
This is literally some the best content on TH-cam. Award worthy filmmaking
Already saw this when it was originally posted. Don't care. I'm watching it again. Absolutely superb in every way
I've watched crossing Labradour at least 5 times lol
Same as me, but, can't stop to watch it again. I'd love soooo much to have an adventure like that, but, i'm all alone and not realy young.
agreed
me too
@@xannon796 Amazing! 🙌

What a wonderful life you are living.💯

Wife and I just finished this. Took three sessions but well worth it. Can’t wait to go back and watch some of the other marathons!
Watching the Northern Scavenger Voyagers is always exciting, you'll never catch everything in one viewing.
"Hope y'all enjoy".. I certainly did, beautiful!

The blues brothers were a nice foil for the rugged, enduring toil of the trip. Nicely done all!

What an epic trip! Congratulations guys to a trip done well!! Great videography and storyline. Thanks again! Bob W. (Vancouver, WA)
This was fantastic. Didn’t want it to end. Would love to see more on the planning, especially for the food.

Such grit and tenacity! So impressed with what you accomplished. Be proud. Appreciated that you were able to laugh after such a journey.

The wolf encounter was so cool! I think it was perfectly healthy and was just strolling by getting chased by bugs 😂.
I think you're right
Freaking epic! The tone of the trip changed so much when you made that decision, and boy the fish, wow! For a while I was thinking, "long hike, too bad they have to carry those canoes", but that's too glib for such a magnificent journey. Weird wolf, eh? "Bug madness"? Mange? I wonder.
AWESOME! Another NS adventure to get me through the five year winter before we are fishing, camping, and paddling again. You guys are an inspiration.

Looking forward to watching it again love it the first time and will love it again .
Whoever built that yoke made a mistake. It broke right with the grain. That's going to be aggravating for the rest of the trip. The fishing was phenomenal. Those Lakers were nice. Very challenging trip. Nicely done.

Agreed, we had a similar situation on this trip
Hope to see you finishing the trip up to the Arctic in the near future. Greetings from Portugal!
Awesome music
Awesome canoe camping trip! Maybe a long trip on the Mackenzie river ending in Tuktoyaktuk is in order..
What an insanely good video. Bravo.
One question...why didn't you have the float plane drop you off at Harry lake rather than walking that long 1st portage? I'm just curious
Never mind... you answered my question at (6:30)
Breathtaking! Wow!
it was great to watch this again. Aside from the Fishing Camp, did you see other people on this trip?
Maybe a fly in winter ice fishing camp ?
