Fun fact: The Western Version also removed the lyrics from the opening songs.
We got the lyrics in Europe, same for Budokai 2 and 3. I don't get why the vocal tracks were removed in seemingly just North America.
If they’re gonna be big games, then let’s just include all of them so no one is disappointed. It’s literally on doors on the properties of all time, they can afford some licensing.
They were likely removed due to song rights, but I'm glad the instrumental versions are in there. I grew up with Budokai 1 and 2, and Budokai 2 has one of my favorite DBZ themes. Even though I've never heard the song version.
@@uknownadaI think they were also removed because in America we still had the western idea of dragon ball. Might’ve thought we couldn’t handle the Japanese lyrics. It’s a weird thing. At some point they dropped that. Kind of. To this day if there’s a dragon ball property in America we music translated into English instead of the Japanese lyrics, like the theme songs of 3 of the 4 theatrical dragon ball movies we got, or even Dragon Ball Super having openings and endings done in English. It’s weird.
Not true, only the American versions did that. Here in Australia, all the games had the Japanese lyrics intact. Budokai 1 however, had a generic song from the OST as the opening with clips from the story mode as opposed to the Cha-La remake with Rock the Dragon.
I once saw a comment about someone complaining that the title for the new game was too weeby. We've gone backwards if Sparking Zero sounds more weeb than Budokai Tenkaichi lmao!

One thing that's always bothered me though was how they got the name backwards. It was based on the tournaments from the series so it should have been Tenkaichi Budokai.
Is it based on the tournaments in the series? They have the world tournament in the game yes but I’d say hardly anything besides that focuses on the tournament.
90s-2000s translation practices did almost irreversible damage to the landscape we live in now. The confusion lingers in so many places

Budokai had many characters and transmissions and its content wasn't just fighting, it had a different story mode for every game, later games had "what ifs", exploration, unlockables and capsules to upgrade your moveset. What of that does FighterZ has?
"Sparking! " Is a great name on itself, but I think also for marketing purposes it's better to have a new game without a 4 in the title .The fan of the series know what this game is, a new gamers don't get confused by having a vague notion of some continuity to some ps2 games.

Honestly i could care less about the names. Im just hyped that the series is finally returning.
I'm glad localisation (sometimes) moved past "this is quirky japanese, let's change/remove it" and stick to the original names. It's easier, makes sense and is a whole lot more consistent
Sparking Zero and Final Fantasy VII are both examples of games that the company just decided to drop the naming convention for for English releases and I'm all for it.
That's nice for you, but it makes the game a lot less appealing for me. Sparking Zero just sounds so wonky, and the fact that it's, to my mind, a renaming of something I grew up with makes it very off-putting.

It amazes me how many people didn't catch on for a _good while_ that Remake and Rebirth aren't an actual remake/reboot, they're more Compilation Of FFVII games. Remake as a verb not a noun, if you will.

I’ve seen some people say that unironically in a community post by quaman saying, “I wanted budokai tenkaichi 4” when quaman asked what were their thoughts on SZ’s trailer.
I'm just confused cause I figured "BT4" would've had a better chance pulling in people who played the originals, but maybe haven't kept up with modern Dragon Ball. Like, people who might not really care about newer Dragon Ball games and might not know Sparking is the original title for those games.

@@Ilias24.Just "Tenkaichi 4" would've been better since Bandai dropped "Budokai" from the PSP game Tenkaichi Tag Team (Tenkaichi 3 with a tag mode).
It literally makes no sense to change the name with every 15 feet. Like "sparking? Nah, America isn't ready for that yet."

I wish more series did this. Translation values were just different before the internet really took off. People are resistant to change from what they knew first, but the cretive vision should be just the creators.

They changed the name to make it sound more exotic, as they believed the main draw anime had on the west was that it was from Japan
Also a big reason for the name staying as the Japanese title is cuz games are pretty region free especially consoles now (I dunno about Xbox actually but I know PS4/5 and switch are) meaning they're interchangeable with different region releases to different region consoles

It should be noted that Sparking wasn’t used because we never got the classic db intro songs. So the name Sparking would have no meaning to DB fan back then. Makes sense to use it now because we are more likely to have heard it before.
So far no local multiplayer in sight...I will consider buying it only if they fix that

Local multiplayer? Bro who the f cares. "Oh I won't buy it" then don't, you're the one who'll miss out. Fans been begging for this game for 15 years and we're going to split hairs because of a mode only 10% of the playerbase would ever use? Come on.
Also, the game is on UE5 and looks gorgeous, consoles can't handle running it splitscreen, and PC doesn't do local multiplayer at all, so yeah, there's no way there's going to be local multiplayer for this, game's just too graphically intense.
i think it's less that they're not worried about appeasing the western market, and more that having a consistent name across all regions is something game companies really like having these days, to the point they won't even adjust the spelling of words like colour and honour for the european market, unless they're sega.
while abolishing the letter u is probably overkill, it makes sense to keep the names consistent, because it's not like we don't know what's going on in other countries, and it probably helps that people don't start thinking these are two separate games (especially since some western gamers prefer to use the original japanese name even if it's called something else in the west {for example there're dark stalkers fans who call the series vampire, its japanese name})
You also have to realize that Atari was the NA publisher because Bandai Namco wasn't situated yet in America. The bigger reason on why BT4 is just called Sparking! Zero is because Atari own the right for the name Budokai Tenkaichi. And since Bandai doesnt need help on the publishing side they just went ahead and use what they already have...Sparking!. Thats why back then you either see Atari in the NA or Bandai in JP

I kinda ruins it funny how translation titles recently will always have the universally the same title compared how it was more than a decade ago- even further beyond, just like how some final fantasy numbers where changed for the west. Or the persona or SMT series.

I like "budokai" more cuz I grew up with it, and also, it kinda just makes sense. There's a tourney in the anime/manga with that name, and it's a fighting game.

@jersont.3339 I'm aware it's backwards, and indeed the name of the tourney is the Tenkaichi Budokai. I just simply don't really care all that much, like I said it at least connects to the series more so than the other title. Regardless, imma be playing it for sure
They probably changed the name cause with a sequel being installed years later it wouldn't make any sense to call it DragonBall Super Budokai Tenkaichi 4. Even if they called it Dragonball Super Budokai Tenkaichi that sounds too long of a name.
what's sad is how ppl want everything to be so faithful to the original to the point that they dont want to even experience it unless it's the Japanese version. from the DBZ anime background music to the games with singing intros. like yall can't THINK for yourselves and love "following" and copying other ppl's opinions and missing out on a great experience cuz u "want something to be faithful to the source material". it aint that deep 😂😂😂
