X-Men '97 is an American animated television series created by Beau DeMayo for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team X-Men. It is a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series (1992-1997), continuing from where that series ends. Real talk: psychotherapy demon was the MVP of this episode, dudes totally misunderstood. He made her face her actual fears and false beliefs, overcome them and recover her powers.
And he didnt even charge her.

Listen closely, you can clearly hear the voice actress for Storm speaking some of the lines for the Adversary, just distorted. The demon was quite LITERALLY a manifestation of her fears and false beliefs

When they call Storm a goddess, it's not just a flowery epithet. She's a mutant first and foremost, but she also legitimately has magical and divine ancestry.
It sucks so much. Charles was on the brink of causing revolutionary change that would have helped countless worlds and made him a super space emperor. Only for things on earth to drag him away from all of that and the woman he loves.
Not the whole crew listening to Charles' lesson and immediately talking about how coercion is really the reasonable option... The whole point is that this sort of thing is self-defeating. The Shi'ar empire is wrong for making enemies of potential allies, keeping people small to control them. But really, it goes to show that the series encourages people to discuss these things that are still relevant questions today.

not the we gotta assign them partners XD the discussion got wild but this is the kind of stuff that makes the X-Men an interesting series. Why are people saying we have to take away the powers of all mutants, but not demanding Tony Stark get rid of all his technology, the Sorcerer Supreme get rid of all his magic artifacts, Captain America take a serum cure to remove his powers? Why are we willing to allow these specific people to have power, but find it too horrifying to consider that joe random might have the power to fly, or make popcorn with their mind?
The standard answer is: of course it doesn't make sense, it's bigotry. The surface question of power and responsibility gets diluted and confused with concepts of eugenic "purity". The confusion and incoherence are on full display here when Deathbird applies her own culture's hierarchical notions of species to Earth, calling the mutants the "lower" caste of Terrans.

So I'd like to throw a counterargument to Adorkable.
Based on this episode, we've just found out that alien empires exist. At least one of these empires is vast, has gobbled up multiple alien civilizations, and has an imperialistic foreign policy.
This empire:
1) has an army that vastly outnumbers Earth's armies (because of the multiple planets)
2) has access to resources that far exceeds what Earth's countries have (because of the planets)
3) has technology that far exceeds what Earth possesses (an example being their space navy)
4) has superpowered soldiers with abilities that match and exceed what Earth's mutants possess (an example being Gladiator)
5) has a leader who's psychic abilities may match Xavier's own.
6) sees Earthlings as lesser and thus would be against laws that treated Earthlings as equal.
What would be Earth's chances of remaining independent, or even just surviving, if this alien empire or another similar to it decided to conquer Earth?
Considering all their advantages, pretty low.
What type of living conditions, physical, economical, and social, would Earthlings be living under if such a civilization conquered it, a civilization that sees Earthlings as lesser?
Considering Earth's history, those living conditions would probably be pretty bad.
Now what is Earth's greatest assets in avoiding such a fate?
It's mutants. They are the one asset that:
1) has shown the capacity to match it's superpowered soldiers (an example being Xavier disabling Gladiator)
2) has shown the capacity to deal with large numbers of troops at once (an example being Magneto and Storm).
3) has shown the capacity to amplify mundane people's might through mutant produced upgrades (an example being Forge).
So it's Earth's interests to keep mutants powered, but actually train them in the use of their powers. Otherwise, it could fall to a much greater and worse threat.
If anything, they would want to turn people into mutants to try and close the troop number gap through higher quality troops.

The theory of getting rid of mutants powers… feels like how people would feel about people who have special talents like sports or intelligence or natural affinities like art. Sure people would prefer equalizing that but is it moral?
We are talking about a group of people that can shot lasers from their eyes, single handledly bring down cities.
It may feel like a different type of person like great at sports but this isnt the same.
We have gun free zones as it and arguments over gun rights. These are people equivalent to walking guns. Without the lethal mass destruction element. We wouldn’t be having this conversation. .

Some will act one way, and others will act differently depending on their perspective/what they see as right and wrong...and how that changes (it's seldom something that doesn't change). It doesn’t justify the oppression and exploitation of mutants. Such people do certainly need to monitored and regulated, but not illegally experimented on and dehumanized.

@@YaBoyRockLee Alright. It'll still come down to point of view, I think. If this were real, they'd still be people who didn't ask for this. We've seen instances when some mutants don't even like their powers, while for others it's a vital part of who they are. Regular people would reasonably fear mutants and how they're abilities might be used, but some like military and government officials would have no problem with them as long as they can use them for their own purposes like Jinchuriki. Control is needed, just not to oppression level. Like you said with the gun laws and whatnot... that still doesn't stop everyone. They did the Mutant Registration Act, and all that did was show that normal humans would abuse power if they get it too.

The major issue is this: Mutants are looked down apon. Hunted. Feared. YET People like the Avengers and The Fantastic Four are praised and admired. Why? Because they got their powers from experiments? Accidents? It's B.S.

Canonically JFK was a mutant in the marvel universe in some stories and that was the reason why he was unalived so even being the president in theme mutant universe is not a guarantee that you’ll be safe
