@@romanlegion8331 I'm pretty sure that would cause irreparable damage to rouges mutant gene due to the over exposure of radiation like it does in the comics.
The fact he burned the Queen of Hearts during the break up scene was truly powerful. And then he topped it off by saving her and what was left of Genosha while delivering his signature line "The Name's Gambit. Mon Ami. Remember it." - Remy Le Beau... And there is the namesake of the episode right there. Gambit, the true MVP of the episode.
The X-Men are literally a strike force for these kinds of situations. This is why they spend their days in the Danger Room. They've never fought a Sentinel like that but it's still a Sentinel and they have familiarity with that despite being outclassed. Gambit is a highly-skilled fighter as are all of them in their own ways. He also uses his kinetic energy INTERNALLY to boost his physical performance, that's why his mobility is superhuman.
They were attacked out of the blue. There was no warning or anything except for Cable but he only got there seconds before it started. The blast took out the entire block of Genosha and completely devastated the area. It quickly went from being a paradise city to being torn apart by something non of the Xmen have faced before. None of the sentinels before had the ability to take them out with one massive beam... Gambit IS extremely skilled and he showed that throughout the entire episode. The sentinel was just so powerful and almost indestructable that the only thing that could actually stop it was Gambit. He put all his power into that thing
@@obi-wankenobi8220although Magneto on paper was stronger, Gambit was the best match against that thing. His matchless agility allowed him to get up close and personal without getting hit. He almost carried off Plan A, charging his Bo staff to wedge it somewhere. Unfortunately, when he made his move it left him wide open. Gambit fought through the pain and went to Plan B.
I Should’ve known the party was getting crashed when *The Watcher* pulled up, and Magneto having Holocaust Flashbacks & going from telling Leech “you’ll never be afraid again” to “don’t be afraid” in his native tongue….. poetic 🥲
That was SO HEAVY. And unexpected. They know what we got on the news. They know where our heart strings are at and how to play them. They got me. By the stunned silence as the credits rolled I see they got you too 🖐😥
That "Sugar...I can't feel you" had the same effect as the "I thought...I thought you were stronger" line from Mark. Just friggin gut wrenching and soul crushing😰 #3
I have grown up with these characters, both thru the comics and the other various iterations. I have also seen multiple reactions to this episode. When Rogue says that final line, it hits me hard, EVERY SINGLE TIME I watch it. I will always Remember It.
Yeah I'll be honest, it's lowkey one of his greatest moments. Never liked how he constantly flirted with Jean while she was with Scott. And a few episodes back seemed like he was ready to steal her away at her most vulnerable. Instead he showed us that he ain't about that parasite shit.
@@karlluigi1987 they're both having complicated feelings and struggling with their sense of desire Scott is dealing with having two of the same person to be in love with while Jean is dealing with identity issues wondering if she really was meant to have the happy ending with Scott, their feelings are just toxic
This is based on two comic stories, one called E is For Extinction which came out in the 2000s, the other called Fall of X: Hellfire Gala from more recently.
I don't think they're going to follow the entire origin of the wild sentinel. I think it's the Master Mold that got destroyed by the dam breach in the original series. It was still hooked up to an entire factory that got submerged on the other side of Genosha.
You can actually see the Watcher in this episode. after the scene when Gambit tells Rogue that they should be friends...The camera is pointed up to the sky and you can see the outline of the Watcher... He only shows up when a really important event is about to happen...so you know shyt was about to go down
So you also know about the watcher. I'm wondering if we will get an episode with cable next I wonder if this can be changed it's nice that gambit finally gets a center of attention but now they killed them off -_- but see if they all live magneto will come back with a vengeance knowing what could have been happening
Well that explains why the watcher was there. Maaaaaan. They've been following it so far. Is there no love for gambit! It's weird but he looks so good and white..... Oh shit who was wearing a suit for his own funeral! I'm out of the loop of comics. One can only know so much
@SubzeroBlack68 I don't really think they'd kill off Gambit for good. He's more popular than RDJ as Iron Man. I think somehow Cable will be able to reverse the events through some time travel.
@@matthewandrews3883 They can bring him back in several different ways without having to undo it. For example Apocalypse in the comics turns him into one of his 4 horseman of the Apocalypse. Specifically, the Horseman of Death. With his Celestial tech they can just resurrect him. Theres several Mutants that have the power to rewrite reality and some of them have brought people back to life that way. Then there's Sinister, he has part of Gambits Brain. He could throw it in an incubation chamber and regrow the rest of his body from it. Theres an Omega level mutant healer that attempted to resurrect mutants and actually succeded before solo. Then theres the current comics Krakoa era where they clone mutants bodies then use Cerebro to download their minds and upload them into their clone bodies. Then it was stated they fulfilled the conditions for the Soul to reattach itself to the new body.
Gambit, in the main continuity, *used* to have the potential to be an insanely powerful Omega level mutant. He had Sinister operate on him to remove that potential, then burned it out permanently while fight an alternate version of himself, New Sun, who reached that potential. Gambit has domain over kinetic energy itself, recall. Just in a very limited sense as he is.
And New Sun was able to defeat the Phoenix of his reality. Gambit and Jubilee are powerful although the former castrated that power. With Jubilee, her potential is so deadly as well as per Emma Frost. Detonating matter at subatomic level, basically a nuclear fusion bomb. Lot of powerhouses in this team if we really think about it.
@jetlorider so if Gambit can self heal, do you think he's really dead? If he's really dead, do you think he'll stay dead? I think Cable is going to do something to stop this attack before it happens, essentially reversing everything and Gambit and Magneto will still be alive. Just my two cents.
The problem with Gambit's power, is that his touch could energize living matter as well. It was very brutal, because he could blow up people, and he did it, without control, that's why he did that, he wanted control. But yeah, if he masters his powers more, he can be really powerful.
The writer went all Game of Thrones in this episode. I love when the creators of a film or series REALLY do their homework. The emotional drama, attention to detail, the twists, creating atmosphere and tone with the animation. This is a masterclass. (Chef’s kiss) Mwah!
Wolverine literally doing his best not to add to the drama and ya'll wont stop doggin on him lmao. Scott and the Jeans are the ones not settling it all
Cyclops had it really hard. You expect a color-blind dude to differentiate between two exactly identical girls who can switch minds at any random times in an instant. I wont wish that situation happen even on my worst enemies.
That's not why he has it hard. He can differentiate them easily. The dilemma is that he's in love with both of them, especially since Madelyn is the mother of his child. It's really complicated
I would have never thought a song like "Happy Nation" from Ace of Base would be that scary and give so much gravitas and dread to this episode. It was the perfect choice. and as a teenage girl in the 90s, my heart is full. Gambit for the Win and I don't care, Cable better come back and fix that thing, even if he has to do it forever
The symbolism of showing Charles Xavier's statue falling. There will be no more attempts to coexist and Cyclops will adopt the ideology of past Magneto. Also, there better be a time travel episode to prevent this damn it!! 😢
Cool thing about Gambit is he can go from a Street Level fighter all the way up to Superman level powerhouse for a limited time. His power charges the potential energy in atoms. So it gives so much freedom to writing. You want him to struggle against street level ninja and thugs. You just limit what hes allowed to blow up or touch. Want him to knockout an Omega Level Threat. Do a super charged attack that requires a good setup.
1:17 storm learning to accept herself after her loss of her power is a metaphor for people who have become disabled in some way. Like someone who’s lost a leg or an arm. Or their sight or hearing. That’s how I equate it anyway.
Fun fact in an alternate universe it's been shown that Gambit has been nerfed by outside forces because his ability is so powerful he can literally explode the universe.
That's because he can channel energy. Energy never goes away, It just changes form. EVERYTHING and everyone is made of energy down to the molecules that are bouncing around and holding us together. He'd be an Omega level mutant too.
This episode is gonna be the talk for the week and every fans from the 80's & 90's are so excited yet surely seeing this episode is devastating.. damn this episode for me is peak!!
Gambit can not only just charge any object with kinetic energy but also use his kinetic energy to enhance his physical abilities such as agility, speed and strength to superhuman levels. He also has the potential to be an omega level mutant but he had his powers suppressed by mr sinister due to being afraid of losing control.
@@joeskys2362since this looks like it’s adapting the Genoshan genocide in the comics, Emma Frost survived this due to her diamond form manifesting for the first time due to this incident. It’s when she developed her second mutation.
@@PickleJarr Well it looks like I just got spoiled, but it is my own fault. After all I literally asked for it. Although thanks to both of you. For at least giving me peace of mind about Emma. She is to cool to die just yet.
Gambit was the biggest man in his situation. Found out about Rogue and Magneto's relationship but kept quiet about it, had images of the two shown to him by the Goblin Queen but shrugged it off, tried to be chill with Magneto but Magneto wasn't trying to be his friend, given words of encouragement by Nightcrawler but Gambit knew what Rogue wanted, Rogue finally tells Gambit everything though he knew some of it and still was willing to stay her friend, saw that Rogue and Magneto could touch and walked away before any anger could ruin their time, still followed Magneto's orders (though bigger things were happening so this made sense), kept Rogue safe, and went out like a goddamn hero. Always gonna be one of my favorite X-Men o7
This is why Rogue chooses Gambit in the end because he has an enormous heart and cares about people beyond his own self. At first glance he may seem like a hot headed show off but theres so much more to him. I think this scene hits even deeper when you remember what Charles' last words to Gambit were "How often must the scoundrel prove himself the hero, before he believes it himself?".
The visible skeleton guy is named Glob. He was superhuman strength, speed and durability, and his body is made of a living wax thats super flammable and can be used as a projectile.
Why do I get the horrible feeling: 1) When Magneto comes back, it's "Planet X" time (except no Xorn Substitute) 2) When GAMBIT comes back, it's as a new Horseman of Apocalypse
I don't think Magneto is dead. Leech depowers mutants so he could have depowered Magneto after the blast to hide him. Yeah, i think Gambit only come back as D of the 4.
This is such a tonal shift from last episode, but absolutely impactful stuff. I thought it was a good choice to have Scott lose control during the interview as it sets up the later events of the decimation of Genosha. Mutants have to try and appease humans time and time again, yet they are never truly accepted as an equal sapient being. Hopefully this is setup for revolutionary Cyclops. Loved that period in the comics. It was honestly quite hard to watch the attack on Genosha as it felt like a real terrorist attack. So many feels and emotions. And I also loved adapting the Scott/Emma mind palace cheating story with Madelyne instead as it feels so at home given this story. They shared a son and had to sacrifice him together. That’s a bond that he doesn’t have with Jean. Madelyne may be the clone, but she was the one who carried Nathan for nine months and gave birth to him. That parental bond isn’t something that can be replaced. And Magneto speaking german to Leech as they were about to die and Gambit’s “Remember it” callback then Rogue finally being able to touch him after he’s dead 😭😭😭 This is some of the best work that Marvel has put out and hopefully the MCU can handle the X-Men like this. Can’t wait for the next episode.
I was already blown away by the way the relationship stuff was handled earlier in the episode and I really got heated with cyclops when he clapped back. But that ending made me feel how strong the confidence and craft of this writing team is. Erik telling Leech not to be afraid in German just reminds us that Magneto has always known something like this would happen again. He didn't go quietly, but his final moments show that for him, the genocide never ended. And all he could do is comfort the child beside him. It really makes me feel for everyone who goes through that. Because it still happens. Sudan, Nigeria, Palestine, and those aren't even all of them. I keep thinking about people who can do nothing but tell their children not to be afraid as they are bombarded, shot and starved.
From what i remember from the comics Gambit was technically supported to be wn Omega level mutant who had his power level caped so he wouldn't turn evil like a version of him "New Son" who destroyed his own earth and goes to earth 616. Along with his main mutant power kinetic energy generation and manipulation Gambit can channel his kinetic energy granting him Superhuman physical attributes (strength, speed, agility, flexibility, reflexes and reaction, dexterity, coordination, balance, and endurance). Other powers Gambit has are telepathic immunity via charged potential energy creating a static shield over his mind, his static generation ability also would later alow Gambit to protect himself from touch based powers allowing him and Rouge to actually touch and eventually marry. Gambit also an ability to hipnoticly charm people but not on those aware of it and are prepared.
What hit the most after G death and Rogues last words... Is that the screen goes black for few seconds with nothing but the ambient sound bass. Then it pops up low tone sad credits. The director of this episode is f amazing! 😢
Gambit was an Omega class mutant and voluntarily nerfed himself because he saw how powerful he could be and it scared him....Still a VERY powerful Alpha class though 👀
Xmen 97 EPISODE 5 ,🙆🙆🙆🙆😳😳🙇🙇 Astronomically WOW!!!!!! Let this be a testament that woke writers can also give brilliantly captivating blissfully enjoyable writing. Folks were hating HARD on Beau Demayo for being gay. Major props to BEAU DEMAYO's brilliant writing of this X-men 97 eps 1-5 so far. Side-NOTE: The hypocrisy that folks online are hating on Magneto/ Rogue pairing due to AGE GAP but they WANT Wolverine with Jean yet Wolverine is several decades OLDER than Magneto. Make it make sense😂
I agree with about giving woke writers a chance instead of hating first but the whole jean Grey and wolverine and magneto and rogue from what I know(if im wrong my bad btw I'm a relatively new men fan)is different because jean fell in love with wolverine when they were both adults like I think she was mid 20s and wolverine age being wolverine but magneto and rogue is different because rogue fell in love magneto at the age of 16 while magneto was 50 so magneto definitely knew what he was doing but I don't agree with either I want wolverine to just move on and have a different lover and a more consistent one not just jean Grey but that's my opinion
The see-through mutant is Robert "Glob" Herman. His skin is made of transparent, flammable wax, that he can break off, light on fire, and throw. One of the weirder mutants, for sure...
Gambit steals one of those power shut down collars. Gives it to beast to work on to make a safe version. Give it to Rogue. That would have solved the issue. Would have.
Also of note....remember what Magneto told Scott at the end of episode 2. "Tragedy alway lures with good fortune 1st." With Genosha being admitted into the UN, celebrations and happiness galore....the perfect set up for such a monumental tragedy. Now, WHO sent this "Godzilla Sentinel".....that's the real question
The head writer said he wanted this to reflect the feeling you get when a safe place gets violated he used his experience of having gone to pulse then hearing about the shooting or Americans how they felt after 9/11. Genosha got bombed in the comics and the only survivor was Emma Frost . The episode was brilliantly done
I didn't cry when Magnus sacrificed himself, or Gambit was stabbed, or even when Rogue cried ... but when that badass song in the end played, that pulled the trigger. Cant hold My tears any longer
Cyclopes was not wrong. Being "The Better Person" gets people killed. There is a difference between carrying a grudge and having your fill. Cyclopes is feed up and he is NOT resorting to the methods of Magneto in his previous life. Magneto is correct, by they way.
On the one hand, Rogue deserved it. On the other hand, no. I feel sorry for her, of course, but not as much as Gambit. Five episodes of the man were shaken and his heart was torn, as a result, he was freed from this pain, becoming a hero. F
Logan proved himself a better man than episode, because he chose not to indulge in his feelings, because he knew that Jean was still married to Scott, and still sorting out her memories. To do anything other than flat out reject her would be a bad idea it would be 10 about taking advantage of her.
You cant deliver a line like that off the rip. She had to dig something up for that. Voice acting is a medium that gets little respect because there are so many bad instances of it, but this is elite work. ELITE
You could see the Watcher in the sky right before the fireworks started that’s how you know shit was not about to be sweet 😭. NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS IN JENOSHA BRO 😭
How’d ya’ll miss that song at the gala? ‘Happy Nation’ by Ace of Base. Listen to the lyrics. It fits perfectly and tells the events and dreams of Xavier’s peace between races.
For anyone interested, here are the lyrics: Laudate omnes gentes laudate Magnificat in secula Et anima mea laudate Magnificat in secula Happy nation, livin' in a happy nation Where the people understand and dream of perfect man Situation leading to sweet salvation For the people, for the good, for mankind brotherhood (We're traveling in time) Ideas by man and only that will last And over time, we've learned from the past That no man's fit to rule the world alone A man will die, but not his ideas Happy nation, livin' in a happy nation Where the people understand and dream of perfect man Situation leading to sweet salvation For the people, for the good, for mankind brotherhood (We're traveling in time) Tell 'em we've gone too far Tell 'em we've gone too far (happy nation) Come through and I will dance with you (happy nation) Tell 'em we've gone too far (happy nation) Come through and I will dance with you (happy nation) Tell 'em we've gone too far Come through and I will dance with you Happy nation, livin' in a happy nation Where the people understand and dream of perfect man Situation leading to sweet salvation For the people, for the good, for mankind brotherhood Happy nation Happy nation Happy nation Happy nation
We got a little taste of post AvX Scott in this episode. In the comics Cyclops rips into Captain America about how the X-Men have had to save their people from genocide and the entire world from destruction countless times and how little the Avengers or any other hero group ever tried to help.

The fact he burned the Queen of Hearts during the break up scene was truly powerful. And then he topped it off by saving her and what was left of Genosha while delivering his signature line "The Name's Gambit. Mon Ami. Remember it." - Remy Le Beau... Marvel has to undo that firing and bring Beau DeMayo back. I know he wrote through season two but I want a decade of this show.
I Should’ve known the party was getting crashed when *The Watcher* pulled up, and Magneto having Holocaust Flashbacks & going from telling Leech “you’ll never be afraid again” to “don’t be afraid” in his native tongue….. poetic 🥲
"Was that The Watcher?"

Yeah I'll be honest, it's lowkey one of his greatest moments. Never liked how he constantly flirted with Jean while she was with Scott. And a few episodes back seemed like he was ready to steal her away at her most vulnerable. Instead he showed us that he ain't about that parasite shit.
Don't be afraid, but I feel in this show he gets Death of Logan adaptation

You guys’ve become my go to-reaction team! Insightful, grounded and fun banter and commentary. Turns out that’s all you need!
Thank you David
Lot of powerhouses in this team if we really think about it.
yeap.....Gambit can self-heal and his powers can disable touch-based ability mutants...like Rogue...he just needs to master it.
So OP he nerfed himself.

Bro! My feeling exactly! This is one of the best things I've ever watched!

Maybe Cable realizes he can not change this event, no matter how many times he travels back in time.
Gambit always know the odds...
25:27 ohh that moment of silence.

The writer(s) on this show are PHENOMENAL. The quotes, the barz... INSANE!
Cable’s disappointment had me 😮 “Not again! I’m sorry mom.”
Great episode and voice acting. Great way to set the stakes even higher.
The current voice actor of Cable is Chris Potter (the voice actor of Gambit in the original series)

That is because as he told Jubilee a long time ago, Gambit does everything with style.
8:23 nah, I think I just woke up my neighbours with all my shouting 😂
The visible skeleton guy is named Glob. He was superhuman strength, speed and durability, and his body is made of a living wax thats super flammable and can be used as a projectile.
So he is flamable Super Meat Boy?
Scott is slipping because he is having a hard time with his son and he was not wrong but it makes them look bad.
But after what just happened. It also makes everything he said right
Why do I get the horrible feeling:
1) When Magneto comes back, it's "Planet X" time (except no Xorn Substitute)
2) When GAMBIT comes back, it's as a new Horseman of Apocalypse
Yeah, that is a good theory
I like that, the deaths are all “permanent” and have lasting costs
And Magneto speaking german to Leech as they were about to die and Gambit’s “Remember it” callback then Rogue finally being able to touch him after he’s dead 😭😭😭
This is some of the best work that Marvel has put out and hopefully the MCU can handle the X-Men like this.
Can’t wait for the next episode.
Another sad part about this is Remy didn't know that Rogue chose him after realizing that "some things are deeper than skin." Damn it, Rogue.
You got heated at cyclops for spitting facts? Yikes.
Great adaptation of the "E is for Extinction" comic book arc!
17:45 😶...they...they DID it. They ACTUALLY did the Mutant Massacre story.

"Sugar, I can't Feel You"
Beau Demayo did an interview about this episode and it hits as hard.
"Yo, what!?!"
- me the whole ep...

Best episode so far!
