A new nameplate has joined Mazda’s lineup in the form of the 2023 CX-50 SUV, which is well-equipped to take on compact crossover rivals such as the Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Rogue, and Toyota RAV4. The CX-50 is available with either a naturally aspirated 187-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a turbocharged version of that engine making 256 horsepower. All models come with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. A hybrid model is also in the works that will use a powertrain from Toyota. The CX-50 shares a platform with the subcompact CX-30 crossover and the Mazda 3 compact car so it offers athletic handling similar to those two winners. Although it's barely larger than the company’s CX-5 SUV, the CX-50 wears more rugged styling, which is a departure from the more refined, upscale designs found elsewhere in the Mazda lineup. The CX-50 is an all-new model for the brand and Mazda says that it will be sold alongside the slightly smaller CX-5, which is on an older platform. How long the two will be in dealers together is unknown. The CX-50 is available in a plethora of trim levels ranging from fairly basic to downright luxurious, but we'd recommend going with the Turbo model. It adds the more powerful 256-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and increases towing capacity to 3500 pounds. It also comes standard with a host of desirable features, including a panoramic sunroof, a 10.3-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and leather upholstery with heated front seats.

New CX-50 owner. This isn't a Wrangler with a 6 cyl and 35 inch tires. But I live in the woods on a dirt road in an area that gets a stupid amount of snow each year. I have no worries with this car. We drove up a loading dock side at a crazy steep angle and in the off road setting it handled it impressively well. But again it's not meant for the trails up in the mountains lol
Great comments! thanks!!
Moving to VT in a couple of months. I'm stuck between a CX 50 and a Turbo CX 30.
@Nick Polidor drive them both. I chose the size over the turbo. They are both really good in the slippery stuff. Enjoy VT!
@@Matt-ti8ol Good to know that they both are reliable in the climate up there!
If you have kids in outdoor sports, half this test looks like the ball field parking lots lol.
20 wheels for off roading is a big NO!! NO !!
Those 20 in wheels are asking to get bent. I’d go for the preferred plus model that comes with a much smaller 17 in wheel and therefore a wayyyyy beefier tire. Good review though
Agreed. Surprised they sent reviewers out with the 20s. Would have thought they would give them the Meridian version with 18s and better off-road tires.
@@sunshinecycling yeah I don’t think the meridians have rolled off the line yet. I want one so bad.
@@ABSVabeautifulsunsetvlog just get the turbo and swap wheels.
My parents live on a gravel road in northern VT. This car might not be great for driving down the Inferno Murren, but it's perfect for getting to their house.
They didn’t do the NYC driving over potholes at 60pm test.
the real offroad
Would non turbo engine pass this obsticle course as well ?
Great job! The new Cx50 looks awesome. That place looks fun
How would you compare the CX50 and the Forester Wilderness on the off-road course? Thanks
New Mazda awd is sadly much better than new Subaru awd outside of the wrx.
Not related, but who actually takes a Rolls Royce Cullinan off road in real life?? Funny to see that at the track
Thank you very much for the oof-road review. A question: Are the stitching on the center of the seats uncomfortable?
Yes they are. At least trying out the seats initially. You can definitely tell they’re there. Idk how it is after about a month, if you get used to it or not.
Cloth is great
Did not feel it on my test drive.
I would love to get the lower trim with 17” wheels but my local dealers are putting an $8k markup on the vehicle
Our dealer is selling for MSRP and no dealer adds yet we still have several available 🤙🏽
@@sonhuynh8222 Where is your dealership?
I went to your website you just advertised for this vehicle to go and buy and that website doesn't list cx-50 :(
You typed in your zip code?
When I chose Mazda and go to select model, I cannot see CX-50 listed on it. Sorry if I'm missing something here
10 and 10
This off road is good for my Toyota Camry 2010😀👍
Thanks nice video anyways
No problem 👍
Alrighty let's see the video then😊
So "soft road" is just code for rural roads - got it!
Maybe put armor and offroad wheels/tires on it if you're going to be regularly driving routes more difficult than basic dirt roads.
It's not a serious trail machine, but at least it can travel rough dirt roads.

It’s like training to be a pro basketball player, and getting a desk job.
What was that???
No idea, what do you think?
4:54 Holy crap
20” wheels are pretty for the city

What I've seen on here and some like it are OK-- but most folks won't be going " OFF ROAD"-- mostly just " OFF ASPHALT"-- on dirt roads--- the WORST this car might see is more likely to be DEEP WET SNOW on uphill , downhill and curves.. THAT is what I want to see tested and NO ONE is doing it-- whch indicates to me it's NOT that good on it.. I 'm going to buy one IF I F it does well on DEEP wet snow.. because that's what I'll most likely have to deal with around here. COME ON-- GET REAL!!!
why does a manufacturer add rims that size to a vehicle that claims to be adventure worthy? Ridiculous.
It has a solid rear end and a basic suspension. So no real articulation is happening.
Okay 99.9999999999% of people who own these cars drive in the city. No one would DARE drive these cars OFF ROAD. It’s like buying a laptop and leaving it on the desk and NEVER moving it.
It’s like buying an iPad and giving it to a kid. It’s like buying a Honda civic and driving it off road. It’s like buying a Prius and putting a lift kit on it.
A waste of money.
It can be done with enough care. I have done it several times with a CX-30 but had to stay to the side of the ruts due to poor ground clearance.
The nose sticks out so far. I would be afraid to take it off road..

18 inch trail and a 1.5 inch lift and you can do everything but rock crawl
Yep
Several scrapes on that front guard so not much attack angle or ground clearance. But ok for what it is... it's not an Subaru... I'd give it a 10 on-road and 5 off-road only because it's not an off-road vehicle... it's AWD for slippery conditions... Thanks!
this car need 4 wheel coil springs...3" lift and and mud grapplers.
Un circuit que j'aurais pu faire avec ma honda civic. ridicule ce genre de circuit promotionnel

Take it to RV PARK
Ok
On road offroad

Lol
if you seriously want to go off roading...buy a pickup truck
Pickup trucks aren’t even great off road vehicles when compared to BOF SUVs
@@TurboJThomas what os a BOF Suv??
@@thomaspfaff8723 Body on frame.
@@thomaspfaff8723Wrangler, Bronco, 4Runner, etc.
Most persons don’t go off road. Buy a Camry n grow up.
Get a wife and have a kid. Take them to the mountain park on weekend and yea u need off road mode.
@@lez3947 😂😂😂 swag bro
Some guys in my Jeep club were comfortably retired.
Maybe don't tell responsible other people how to live their lives unless they ask for advice.
Those are not off Road rims or tires you will need to replace those if you plan to actually off rod in this
THAT is a STUPID test--- water is the WORST- and out on normal roads if you see water like that- STAY THE HELL OUT -- you don't know how deep it is- or what might be IN IT... GET REAL...
This is not serious. My Renault with 7 inches of clearance, without all weels drive's technology can do it better. Nowadays car makers are doing pure Sh&te. And this is taking into account that actually my Renault is a bad car.
