Really does seem like the failed QTE would be the canon ending considering how she's treated afterwards. Nothing like slamming your head to the floor, smashed against a scanner while falling in/out of consciousness, and taking three consecutive blows to the head for good measure. Girl must have an iron plate installed with how fast she got back up to her feet after all of that.
To be fair, Chai lands on his head from massive falls throughout the game -- they HAD to have replaced his skull and spine with some indestructible alloy, right?

If this were cartoon and not a video game then the successful attempts will be what the characters envisioned how it will go while all the failed attempts would be what actually happens

There's more cell shaded games, but they're unfortunately uncommon. There's a few really good games with this art style. XIII (13) is a fun FPS game that pays an homage to comic books. Unfortunately there's a remaster that removed the cel shading, so I recommend finding the older version. Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future are rollar skating game where you graffiti a whole city with stellar music. These are old games, but they look amazing even by today's standard and there will be a reboot of the series called Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Guilty Gear is a fighting game with the same art style and even the same energy as Hi Fi Rush. Auto Modellista and Inertia Drift are driving games that are spectacular in their own way.

Which is hilarious because it genuinely makes it the single most important QTE in the game unironically; Failing that makes it impossible to get S-Rank on that fight and makes it borderline impossible to S-Rank the chapter. Every other QTE just causes a minor inconvenience otherwise.

Good thing missing the dodge only inflicts tiny damage to you so I can take it as much as I want, but man I just want the whole thing to over lol.
It works in line with the plan to convince Korsica to help the team. They're not there to blow up the next major head of Vandalay, so having the fight be entirely defensive rather than offensive works beautifully with that in mind. It also adds onto Chai's character arc, with him being more of a team player over time rather than doing things his own way (for the most part)

Not sure if she ever gets better - Chai at the end of the story actually becomes better person and he can be serious and wholesome. In Hi-Fi Rush entire world is funny and quirky and Chai fits in it perfectly, while Frey (I think that's her name) looks too out of place even in New York, what even to say about "Generic Fantasy Land No. 36"? Her banter with "cuff" (I guess closest thing in Hi-Fi Rush is combination of 808 and CNMN) is just pure cringe.
For me, this boss fight was TOUGH. Took me 30+ minutes to get the final set of timing right. Then when I was done, I threw down my controller in victory, only to realize too late that there was a QTE even there. So every subsequent fumbling of Korsica's handling felt almost like I WAS DOING IT! To be honest, probably the only reason she joined these guys in the first place is because of all the brain damage.

Oh have you ever heard of Drakengard 3? The final boss? over 7 minutes of rhythm music and not allowed to miss once and then the level starts to fade out and you STILL have to hit beats and even then the music ends ... ad you have to hit beats with NO indicators. Bloody ridiculous!
The hitting her head part reminds me of an old Alka Seltzer commercial from the 80’s. A newly wed couple is going into their house and the husband bashes the wife’s head into the door comically. You would think that the bride would get the medicine for her head, but no they gave it to the groom because he was stressed out🤣🤣

In my first playthrough i finished that fight and was happy that i did it in the first try, i put my controller away expecting a cutscene or something, but then i see a GIANT B on the screen and i frickin' panicked, i really was not ready for that QTE. before i could even do anything she had already hit the ground. it was so funny but i felt so bad that i reset the whole fight to do it again and get it right lmao. but then afterwards she just gets destroyed and i was like "was it really worth it? shes probably dead now" XD
feels like that should be what happens when you do the QTE in time because it's so in character to do so, especially with what happens while he's carrying her around.
