I'm an intermediate guitar player and I've learned this song before but not with the detail that you put in your videos. I recently subscribed because i like the songs you play and how you teach them. To the point, no time messing around, and it is challenging for me. Thanks for putting the time in to make these videos!
@@Elguapo93 Hey guys, Andy puts a whole lot of time and effort into composing these videos for us and the details down to every note are always spot on. If its possible and we know that times are tough for us all financially speaking it would be a good thing to go to his website and support him if you are in the position to do so. ITS ONLY BY OUR SUPPORT OF HIM THAT IT MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR HIMTO TEACH US THESE GREAT SONGS. Let us all try to have his back if we can afford it. God bless all of you my brothers and sisters who learn from these videos and God bless Andy for his devotion to putting these videos together for us.
i really appreciate your particular tutorial for this song because of the attention to detail and tips on how to get the right feel of the track, it really made a huge difference towards getting it to sound right and as a complete beginner improved my playing a lot specially for the intro part.
Great playing, thank you very much. Nothing much in fingers, no showing off, smooth voice and a big talent inspiring me to torture my guitar. Stumbled upon your website a month ago and was so glad. I've learned "Nothing else matters'' using your tutorial and my wife looks at me with an interest, like 40 years ago. God bless your soul Sir, thank you. To be able to see your lesson about Pink Floyd's "have a sigar''
I know that you had made this video eight years ago. I have never been able (or have seen anyone able) to make that bend on the third string. I've always used my middle finger and come close, but there was something "unnatural" about it. You've answered my forty year question. Also, the bend on the second string is easier now. Thank you.
Yours is the ONLY lesson on TH-cam that shows how play this correctly, the way Gilmour does it... Now I know it is a pull off on that B string bend (5th fret) I couldn't get it to sound the way Gilmour does it from the other lessons. Thanks.
Yes!! The number of subscribers , or hits , should be through the roof. The strumming pattern, the tab, the chord window as he’s playing is all their. Absolutely the best of all worlds, when trying to learn a song, even the timing when he sings the vocals , ( which is a struggle for me) , is all their.. please keep using this format Dave. Much appreciated.
I learned this a long time ago and forgot some of it. I clicked on your video to see what I had forgot. This had to be one best, most straight forward tutorials I’ve seen. Thanks
I’ve learned a couple of other ways to play this solo, and your method is definitely the best sounding! I appreciate how in-depth your tutorials are, and how much knowledge you have! Thank you 😊
This is fantastic. I learned the solo really well on electric guitar first to get the feel of the bends, then transitioned to acoustic and kept putting on lighter strings until i could hit the same notes with the bends.
I play this song all the time. I like to use Elixer custom light strings. The 3 lower strings (EAD) are their light string gauges and the upper 3 (GBE) are their extra light. It makes bending those strings (GBE) easier.
Great tutorials always. The little things (like that chromatic thing at 2:39) make your lessons that much better Thanks for the effort making these videos.
Great in depth detailed tutorial of a classic classic song! Even down to showing different gauges to enhance the sound. Thank you for time and effort!!👍🤘🎸😀
Thank you, I've always known how to play the rhythm part and I'm just learning the solo part 20y later 🤷🏻♂️. The thing I love the most about this lesson is I can take this bluesy rift and change some things about it to make it my own once I'm done learning this song. I switch back and forth from metal to acoustic style songs but dimebag Darrell is one of my favorite guitarist and he has this unique playing style because he incorporates blues with metal and it's just the most awesome sounding stuff. Anyways thanks again.👍
There is a "It might get Loud" video on youtube where Jimmy Page talks about using a banjo string for the high e and then replacing the b string with the regular high e, g with b, etc., to make them easier to bend.
Such a good instructional video. I’ve only been playing for a short time but I’ve always wanted to know how to play this. Your lesson made it pretty easy to learn.
Super video of a super song. Its apparent simplicity is extremely humbling for a beginner. Need to learn so much and am sure this will inspire me to get regular with my practice. Thanks for posting this! Wonder how I missed seeing it earlier.
Absolutely fantastic tutorial for "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd 👍 100% shows the pull off's correctly and perfomed/played with brilliant explanation right thru to the end 😊 thanks ever so much for that, now I can actually play the solo for myself from studying this video. I've also subscribed to your channel, keep doing what you're doing, your amazing in your tutorials 👏 😊💯🎶🎶🎶🎶
Thank you for the lesson, much appreciated. I am sure mr Gilmore had some tricks up his sleeve, but when playing the solo, try to bend the strings using your wrist as support. To me, that feels like a good way to play the tune. Have a nice one, y’all!
Great lesson, Obviously the people who gave the thumbs down are failed guitar players who didn’t have the patience or the interest to learn something special.
pause at 6:03 I just noticed that 2 note chord D5 and G4 is the same as G-open B-open. You can do a pull-off of the chord before it and then play G&B strings open. A little easier to get at.
Thanks for taking the time to show it the right way (as usual). A lot of other tutorials don't show the pull-offs correctly or not at all and it just doesn't sound right.
Great lesson .... I am always impressed by your feeling when you play. A great guitarist !! I had learned that piece years ago from a tab but it never sounded close to the record. Observing with close attention the way you move your fingers on the strings and all the little effects you add , has greatly improved my performance. It is certainly not a matter of accurate tab or good gear. It is just talent !!!
Thank you so much!!🙏🙏 Finally i can play the intro solo on my own, love this channel so much and definetely im subscribing this channel for more lesson, thank you and bless your life👊👊
I saw a snippet of a woman playing this intro, that’s why I went looking. But she didn’t play it anything like this & it still sounded right. Hers seemed more simple to play for beginners.
By the way - I have tried to learn this into for a long time. Novice guitar player here. I have seen SO MANY lessons on the wrong way to play this - you are so incredibly close it is crazy. Like you said, not like the live versions - but SO close to the recording.
You: If you're gonna try to do this intro solo on a regular acoustic guitar, light gauge, extra light, whatever, you're gonna have one heck of a time bending that g-string. Me: I bet I can bend that whole step My g-string: No (breaks) Also my g-string: Still no (breaks again 5 minutes later) Me: I was mistaken So now I've ordered 6 sets of 0.017 plain steel g-strings, and a full set of Earthwood Rock and Blues, which come with exactly that. Thanks for the tutorial. Great as always!
Thank you so much! I've always wanted to learn this intro, and you made it so easy. I'm a slack-ass, lazy guitarist who rarely takes guitar seriously, but this was great! Much appreciated.
Just found you lessons and I love the way you take your time to show how to play..so simple ...I like being able to pause and follow your method ,,I`m getting there .THANKS
Thanks man now i can finally get that intro solo down properly as after seeing this vid I was definitely doing it wrong and yes those bends are killer on the fingers on my normal gauge acoustic set up haha 😉 Cheers mate have a great day.
This guy is a good teacher but he doesn't know David swapped the strings, he also says it would be difficult bending the strings, i use a standard setup with original strings and have no trouble bending them
I think this is a lot easier to do once you realize it's almost all in the second blues box in E. Virtually all of DG's solos are in the basic blues patterns and pretty easy to pick out once you learn those boxes and positions. Andy as usual does a fantastic job of teaching note for note exactly what happened in the studio.
All these years, I've been doing this with 12's and just suffering through it. It's a wonder full guitar part for sure. I can't remember where I first learned this, but it looks like I was doing it right. Wait, I think I got it from The Wall tablature book.
I just subscribed to your website cause I love the way you teach. I have a question that may be somewhere listed in the comments, but is there a solo version part 2 and part 3 available? I think you nailed the intro solo but would appreciate the other 2 solos for this live version. Thanks.
Do you think after the two string pull off that he could be playing the G and B string open instead of fretting those two notes at the 4th and 5th frets? I'm sure he's done it both ways, but I'm hearing those two strings open on the record, but I'm not on your level either. Love your lessons, keep em' coming.
Not trying to sound like a bad ass or anything, but I taught myself this intro with regular wound strings. It took awhile to get the bends tonally right, but eventually I got them. To me it sounds fuller with the G being a wound string. But hey, I'm just a hack when it comes to playing guitar. I am in no way the caliber player you are. :) What I enjoy about your lessons is you incorporate your feel and ear to each song. Demonstrating certain embellishments and tonal qualities. Have you done Is There Anybody Out There? I may have missed it if you did. I'd love to see your take on it. Thanks for all you share.
Pop-pop Fpv i learned to bend with the thicker gauged strings. Let me tell you that it was a bitch on my fingers. I did learn his song myself and i just listened to the track to see if my bends were correct.
I don’t understand why anybody would dislike this video, or any of his video,s.This is top notch guitar instruction for free.
Russian trolls! Lol
because a quarter of the video is just a yap session
Because the person tooooo much speaking !!!
It takes him too long to get to the playing, and it would be appreciated if he played it all the way through first
Top notch lesson and I'm grateful!.........Thank You!.

I agree, Choice of Tunes caught my attention as well. Also he doesn't make a 20-minute video when it can be done in 10:37
It’s an impressive song to play, it catches people off guard when you pick a guitar up and play it. It’s got so much depth to it.

1:00 - 1:15 I also read in an interview that he used all three fingers to bend the string where a lot of people use only two or one.
