Thank you for making Memento your #1 pick! This movie has been my favorite mind-bender and one of my top 5 overall movies (and I've seen a LOT of movies, new and old). I've seen it many, many times and it gets me each time, as I try to follow the little twists buried in the plot and presentation. Great list overall, I found a few I have not seen yet.

Great list. I personally have Coherence as well as Timecrimes on mine. Very good films that I'd highly recommend to those who enjoyed Triangle.
Especially " Coherence ".....Masterful.
I liked Triangle more than Coherence not seen Timecrimes. I thought Time Lapse was a fun movie.

The Usual Suspects is still one of my favorite films. The only movie I didn't see the twist coming. So damn good!

Great list. Thanks for mentioning Stir of Echoes. I always group it with Jacob's Ladder as one of those horror movies for adults. No tongue in cheek humor, no cheap jump scares. Just chill factor out the wazoo. Easily one of Kevin Bacon's best movies.

Fantastic list, especially the top five! Among my family & friends, "Byzantium" is the least known of these films, but I enjoyed it a lot.

They Live's fight seen with Piper and David is amazing. And Meg Foster's eyes were never more weirdly mysterious.
So glad to see this on the list. Yes, great fight scene. Also kind of funny how it almost never ends.
Excellent list! One of the things I loved about The Endless was how it managed to get a "folk horror" vibe out of the San Diego County back-country.
@bmljenny There is more to The Endless than meets the Eye , look into the Directors Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead's other movies apparently this is the watch Order , Made the Whole Watching experience so much better , So Good

I find Prometheus fascinating. Very underrated.
Glad he mentioned the stupid mistake of getting run over by the rolling space ship. Maybe not as stupid as it sounds because if you roll a bike tire, it will turn right or left before it falls over. But another STUPID BLUNDER, was trying to touch the alien cobra thing! I mean, WTF was that dumbass thinking?!
Came here due to the thumbnail...Triangle is such a great move. Too bad its so underrated. I always recommend this to time-loop/mind bender enthusiasts. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Time Warp are other great ones.
The Usual Suspects changed my way of watching movies and reading fiction ever since I first watched it back in 1995, cause it taught me to always keep in mind who's telling the story. It's just a master piece.

Stopped your video after your first recommendation and watched “Triangle” on Tubi. I love going into a movie knowing nothing about it based on your recommendation. I loved it! Thanks for all your recommendations on this channel.

*Stir of Echoes* is one of my favorite films, and I've never heard anyone talk about it before. Thanks for acknowledging how good it is. FYI, the paranormal events depicted in the film are actually experienced by some people. Really.
I loved this movie too! I think Kevin Bacon was incredible and the strain on his marriage and father/son relationship only added to the whole story..unlike a lot of movies that just shoe it in to pad the run time. Totally underrated but one of my all time favorites in my collection!!
It’s a kevin bacon classic any movie lover has watched this before unless you were born jn 2013
I'm intrigued by this category. While I'm not a big fan of horror movies, I can enjoy ones with a provocative story. With A Scanner Darkly, you had me at Philip K. Dick, one of my favorite writers. His work has been heavily mined, and even the poorly done adaptations are worth a look. I was pleased to see The Usual Suspects on your list, and any reminder of They Live makes me smile. I love that you feature movies I haven't seen for a while, as well as intriguing ones to check out for the first time.
Love the work of Philip K. Dick.
Linklater's earlier Waking Life, using the same rotoscoping technique, was better.
Watch Memento. It is not horror, but is instead a great thriller.
Another excellent list. I'm glad movies like Triangle are getting more exposure. It's a heavily underrated movie.
Stir of Echoes was good, but not as good as everyone made it out to be, and certainly not comparable to The Sixth Sense. I will watch the movie again, and maybe this time I'll like it more. But it can never be more than the Sixth Sense
Btw, The Endless is a sequel (mostly in name only) to the movie Resolution made by the same guys. There's even a scene in The Endless that relates directly to that prequel. Also, these guys made a movie called Spring, and that was damn twisted and damn good. Highly recommended.
And kudos to you for ending the list with Memento. Instant classic.

I seen 4 of those movies: A Scanner Darkly, They Live, The Usual Suspect, and Memento. I defiantly recommend those four.
Memento is great. The entire 2nd half of Mandy is insane. Picks up the Cage rage and goes bananas.
Another fantastic list as always! I really think Tubi has one of the best movie selections of any streaming service!
The lighting and color work in Mandy are worthy of a class in film school.

I 100% agree on the carpenter movies, the thing is the best horror and practical effects but "They live" is the best "Fun" Movie he makes .

Darren, I love your taste in movies, you always manage to come up with one or two I haven't yet seen. On a slightly different tack, no doubt you've heard of 'Night of the Demon', a superb 1957 mono film by Jacque Tourneur. Based on the foreboding story 'Casting the Runes', by my favourite Victorian ghost/horror writer M. R. James, it was way ahead of it's time,
Ok, Mr. VanDam, you out did yourself with this list. Need to watch several movies. I also recommend watching the Sci-fi cult classic, DARK STAR, John Carpenter's College movie project! It's silly awesome!
Great list! I'm going to keep popping up and recommending this until everyone has seen it, but "Beyond the Infinite 2-minutes" totally belongs on this list.

Great list (as usual). One interesting thing about They Live is the undercurrent of the movie is about the financial troubles and divide between the have and have-nots of Reagan-era 80's. I think Roddy's character was "a drifter" because a lot of people would sort of become that, looking for work and trying to avoid the reality that they were homeless. I feel the themes of They Live then are as true as today. Great film.

Ive lost track of how many times Ive watched the Usual Suspects- great movie, as is Momento.
Tubi has some great classic movies too- like Inherit the Wind, Trial at Nuremburg and Paths of Glory.
I love The Visitor. I first saw it years ago on TV in the mid 80s, and they played it once more. but after that, they never played it again. It was only a couple of years ago when someone helped me with the title of it from a brief description I gave. I found it, and also the Italian language version. Yes, it is disjointed, I still don't understand that psychedelic light-field scene, but the overarching narrative is very interesting, and you never know if the girl is the hero, or the villain of the movie.
I really enjoyed your video, very well made. Happy to say, that I have seen 12 of the 15 movies, most of them on the big screen. I agree with pretty much all you mentioned. Only thing for me: Mandy's first half was excruciating for me. Second half solid, though. Will definitely check out two of the remaining three (Visitor and Clovehitch Killer) and maybe give Samsara a try. In any case: good reminders for solid future rewatches, too. Thanks.
I watched Mandy strictly based on one of his earlier videos last year, and was blown away. I have since learned to trust Darren's movie suggestions and he never disappoints.

While Tubi IS technically free, it does come at the cost of having to suffer through 10 or so ad breaks per movie with the WOKEST most CRINGY ads

I was surprised at how many of the movies on this list I've already seen. but I am good at guessing the ending of movies within the first 5 minutes, so I gravitate towards weird movies where that prediction is near impossible.

Stir of Echoes is so fucking good. Also, if you want to try something cool while watching it, smoke some weed -- there is a scene where a side character hypnotizes the main character and if you close your eyes and listen to all of her prompts as if she is leading you in hypnosis, you will have a crazy experience because it will actually work on you. Try it and tell me im lying. Honestly it is so trippy it might work even if you are stone cold sober, but I encourage a little bit of weed to reduce your inhibitions a bit.

Triangle is a great movie. Another brain teaser movie is Primer. I actually had to watch Primer three times to absorb it all to understand it all. The beginning of the movie even tells you it's been going on before it started. The noise in the attic that was mention after they left the kitchen to leave. The movie don't kick in until they are at the storage shed. Pay close attention to the ear pieces in the ear. Key points in the movie. Primer is diffidently a ride for your money.

I live in Japan, where Tubi doesn't work. You mentioned The Visitor, which I've been trying to figure out the name of for many years. When I was a child, I met this really nice dude named Jackie (Jack Dorsey), as listed in the credits, who was my first role model. He said that he played the basketball player "Abdul" in this movie. I found the movie on a streaming site. Looked up the actor, but IMDb lists the actor as Kareem-Abdul Jabbar. A simple Google search will show you that that basketball player is NOT Jabbar. Although I was 10 at the time, I recognize my friend as the actor. Thanks for mentioning that movie. There's another film from that era I've been looking for for many years. All I recall is a man looking into a crib and seeing a baby with a blue face. He says "Blue face." Another guy knocks him out with an umbrella from behind. Do you know this movie?

I was thinking the same thing. I snuck and watched it on HBO when I was like 11 (I watched crazy stuff at a young age) and it TERRIFIED me but I loved it. I actually didn’t see In the Mouth of Madness until I was in my early 20s and was still freaked out but I agree..Event Horizon…yeah I’ll never forget it. 😊
Triangle was amazing. Don't get turned off by the start, give it a go and it does a super trippy trick. Very clever.

triangle, awesome flick! clovehitch killer, well done movie, and agree, not off putting considering the topic, they live is such a classic!!! the usual suspects I have passed up enough, i think it is time to finally watch that.. and Memento is so amazing! and I agree one of the most mind blowing movies of all time(i know there are a couple that are more so, but they escape me, i will report back if I remember, haha)

This list is awesome. I've seen at least half, and I like the order too, so I guess I need to watch the others now too.
That being said, saying Memento is reverse order is either a simple explanation so as to not confuse people, or it's missing the biggest plot point of the movie. ... A bit of a spoiler below...

Memento's in-color scenes are in reverse order, while the black and white are in-order. They alternate back and forth and each transition has a cut from one to the next. Near the end of the movie, for the first and only time, there is a black and white scene that slowly transitions to color without cutting. This is the narrative coming full circle as the timeline normalizes between the two. Basically, the last scene of the movie is not the first (as it would be in reverse order), it's actually the middle.
This last transition represents the cycle repeating. It basically confirms the last comments of the narrator are accurate, and that Teddy, while a scumbag, was not lying.

They Live is one of my all time favorites, and I used to watch The Usual Suspects every week. The only movie I watched more than that was Dude Where's My Car. I fell asleep to that movie every night.
Also Popeye. I watched with a girlfriend and asked her how she liked it. She said, that movie was so good I want to kill myself.

I don’t even know if this is possible but if there was any way to have a somehow clickable and possibly searchable list of your recommendations… that would be an awesome paytron service I would certainly support. I’m pretty sure just about every service you can cast from most devices. Maybe a rating based on where it was on your list. I don’t know, I always find myself rifling through some of your videos to find something that I can’t remember the name or streaming service. Regardless love your content
I would love this, but tbh movies come and go from these services it would be really hard to keep up with it.
They live is an amazing movie if you can get past how cheesy it is.

I’m actually considering dropping Netflix altogether. Tubi has such a great collection that it has become my go to. Also, what few commercial breaks they do have are well placed and actually somewhat welcome, because they provide an opportunity to get something to eat or use the bathroom.
This is the second time I’ve seen you recommend Mandy. I watched it. Holy crap!!
