I do art professionally. I started on a crappy Wacom Bamboo. Very tiny, could never get used to it. Thought to myself I'd be able to do art way better if I had a cintiq (they cost more back then) My friend let me borrow her cintiq 13, and it turned out I was right. Using a screen was much better for me. I ended up getting my own and did art professionally with that. Thought that I could use a bigger one so I got a 22HD. Turns out that was honestly just more annoying than it was worth due to it's size, so I bought an iPad. Enjoyed using that much more than the 22HD, so I got a 16 HD (and a cheap Chinese screenless tablet) Turns out I can use the screenless tablet now without even practicing (I'm just better at art) and I'm currently enjoying the 16HD. The only thing that gives me a desire to upgrade is I wish I had touch on a desktop tablet, but I refuse to pay 3 thousand dollars for Wacoms touch (which was broken on my 22 HD touch) All of this is to say if you want to do art, you don't need expensive stuff. You CAN get used to a tablet with no screen even if it's hard. You can use a 13 inch tablet. You can use a 16 inch tablet. You can use a 22 inch tablet. For a long time I used a paper and a pencil. Don't sweat this stuff too much. Buy something you can afford and use it for a while. Eventually you will know if you need to upgrade or not. No review is ever going to be able to tell you that, they only tell you if the thing you are going to upgrade into functions or not. Don't fall for industry standard tricks or lies either. Wacom has been probably the most unreliable piece of hardware I've ever used over the last 15 years. You aren't purchasing reliability or anything of the sort with "industry standard" purchases, you are just getting what people are used to buying. So just buy what you can afford and start doing art.
This! I love the insight. I'm definitely the kind of person that falls for the "I just need to buy stuff to be good at this" trap. It's hard to avoid. I think my big problem is 2 things: I don't have any natural talent, and I have a hard time motivating myself to do something new. Somehow getting a fancy new piece of tech helped me with that (but it didn't all of a sudden make my art "good" or my studying "easier"). But now that I'm more confident, I've started to really enjoy sketching and drawing with just a plain white notepad and a .01 Micro nib. Thanks for this! I'm going to try out a regular pen tablet to see if I really even need the screen.
I became a fulltime artist half a year ago and I can't stress enough how important it is to have a large drawing space. While studying at university, I would use a 22" wacom cintiq on campus and I also bought myself a small 13" cintiq for travel. That small tablet is what I use now and it's often really annoying having such a small screen. I'll be setting money aside to get the Cintiq pro 24. It's quite the investment, but I feel like my neck, back and eyes will thank me in the long run.
New screen tablet user here! I recently got the xp pen-artist 15.6 pro. Its my first ever screen tablet and its ALOT bigger then I thought it was. The quality is great and the workspace is alot bigger and more then enough! I suggest if your someone like me whos never had experiences with screen tablets i would get a 16inch. A 24inch could be overwhelming to new artists. But could be something you could look to invest into in the future!
Great call! When you put the 16" next to the 24" it looks small, but in reality once the 16" is on your desk it's huge. I don't know if the scale really showed through in the video, but it's really a good sized device. I'm tying this around my 24" right now because, as I mentioned, it dominates my desk. I love the XP-Pen artist pro line, I hope it brings you many cool looking digital art pieces.
I came here from your tablet showdown video and I appreciated how straightforwards you were with the review while sneaking in some dry humor. It was clear and well structured. I couldn't make a decision just from that video alone but I ended up doing what you did: I bought the 24" tablets I was considering and returned the one I didn't like. I ultimately ended up going with the huion ; the xp-pen had some issues that I couldn't deal with. To be fair, I might have received a defective product. This video was great too. I used to own a 13" cintiq, and I own a 24" huion now, but I draw... a lot. The larger screen size helps a lot ergonomically and with eyestrain, but artists just starting out probably aren't dealing with those issues yet. You're very frank about how and why the tech you choose works with your lifestyle! I hope you continue to do art-related tech reviews in the future.
I'm so happy to hear you got the right device! Thanks for your support, it means a lot. That's not the first time I've heard of issues like that, so maybe I just got lucky with the two I purchased. It sounds like the upgraded size was totally worth it for you then! It really is tough to beat the comfort of the big screen if you spend a lot of time drawing. If you're putting time into it, you deserve the best tools. There will be lots more to follow, thanks for the encouragement!
Out of curiosity, after 8 months of use, have you seen any change in the functionality of the Huion tablet? Or is it working as well as it did in the first week? It is hard to hear the opinions of long term users of Cintiq alternatives.
@@flashytincan The Huion tablet still works well for me. The build quality has held up, and i really like the etched glass screen (no visible marks from the pen). There are some quirks to the software that change how you can use shortcuts with the pen vs a cintiq pen, but I’d happily recommend it for anyone looking for a cintiq alternative. That said, I haven’t had a chance to actually try the 24” or 22” cintiqs, so grain of salt and all that.
@@octopioctopus Thanks for the reply! It's good to hear a Cintiq alternative has held up well. I will probably end up buying the same device you have. Cheers!
I don't think I've seen a channel like yours before. Articulate, intelligent review. Good art. Chill, cool personality. Super cute baby. I love it. Keep up the great work and please don't shy away from throwing in an occasional DIY vid in there (ie. handmade desk etc).
Thanks for the positive feedback, I really really appreciate it! If you'll watch it, I'll make it 😁. I have some cool stuff coming up that I hope you'll enjoy. And that baby is something, I have to agree 😅.
Thank you so much for this video! I started with a 16 inch display then when I saved up some funds I upgraded to a 22 inch display (its definitely worth the investment and glad I chose the smaller size the first time)
Every bit with the baby is very cute. I love it. Thank you I just recently got a 16 inch tablet and didn't know if I was missing out on much more. So thank you.
Thank you so so much for this video! I was still on the fence as to which size tablet I should get before watching your review but when I got to the point around 5:22 when you make the decision for those of us who are still undecided, I honestly felt very relieved. I plan to order a 16" Huion 2.5k display today! This was the perfect review with an artist's perspective in mind and a realistic approach for day-to-day work on the display. Thanks again!
I feel like spending around 12 hours drawing with a small Intuos sounds excessive and incredibly unhealthy, but I've been dealing with this for years now. I'm an illustrator and looking to upgrade to a display and this honestly helped me decide which one I should get. Lookin to get the Kamvas 22 Plus and hopefully solve the problem.
So glad I could help 😄 and I totally agree that's a lot of time to spend on such a small space. I ordered the new 24 Kamvas Plus tablet so once it arrives, I'll add my review. I'm hopeful it's going to be great though based on my experience with the smaller 16" Kamvas!
Probably been said somewhere below, but the 16" is great with an ergo arm! Got a second hand one for £30 and taped the Huion stand to it, so I can move it closer / further / up / down at will, and it's honestly great. Have a great Christmas!
This is a great tip! I've been using a desk based stand and I'm starting to realize that the ergo arm is probably the best way to go. I just need a little more height off the desk. I'm a big fan of taping things to other things, so I support it👍👍 Thanks!
Good video man! I’m happy with my 24 but I’m sure I’d be happy with a 16 too. I do art more than 5 hours a week so I guess I made the right choice. And it sure is hard to talk about tablet sizes without things getting weird..
So glad you came along for this one! I was hoping it would be helpful for you when I published it 😄. It sounds like it's safe to say you made the right call, especially if it gives you a cool looking studio set up. Haha, right? So close to making it...
Sometimes i just come here for the humor😂. But i must say. I work on an intuos mini 10 hours a day, 6 days a week and it's truly the opposite of ideal. So, like the man said. Get a 24" tablet if you create weekly. It'll save you a lot of pain throughout you hand. Trust me. I know😂
😁 I'm glad someone appreciates it. That looks like it's a good tablet though even if it's smaller. It sounds like it's time to treat yourself to an upgrade! I'd love to know how a bigger tablet would feel by comparison, especially someone who does digital art as much as you do.
Hello great video and very informative! I currently have the iPad Pro 12.9 and it’s really good but I just crave having more screen space to make better editing decisions. Plus the interface in some softwares take up space. I really want the Wacom cintiq 22 but I’m on a budget. Should I just wait until I have enough for the 22 since I have a iPad or will a 16 be enough?
Dude I have just found your channel because I am looking for a drawing tablet for myself and let me just say Im sticking around for a while! You are amazing!
For me personally, if your going 22in or larger it needs to be VESA compatible (a cheap $30 arm has treated me well) so I can move the monitor out of the way and off my desk when I’m not using it. It also allows me to float the tablet above my keyboard (slightly covering the numpad) so that I still have access to my shortcuts comfortably and giving me comfortable access to my mouse under my display. That flexibility is something I slightly miss when working on a smaller pen display or my iPad. Then again I can only draw or work from my desk with that setup where as the other devices allow me to get a change of scenery.
I'm with you -- being able to move the monitor out of the way is huge (I like my desk really empty). Wacom has a VESA mount converter that I bought so I'm going to give the arm a try -- I think it will be really helpful. Having a small keyboard (65%, Keytron K2) has been the only thing that has saved me. It' really easy to fit that size next to the tablet while it sits on my desk. But I really like the idea of having the mouse right under the display -- I hate having to reach across the tablet to get to the mouse (especially when I'm using ZBrush, where I'm always grabbing the mouse).
Awesome video, your humor is great and your kid is adorable! If I could go back and change my tablet purchase I would have gone for a 16 inch instead of a 13, but even just the 13 inches has been enough for me to work on projects. It’s also great for a portable set up. In the future when I have a desktop set up, I’d love to get a larger tablet, and like you said I’ll appreciate that extra space even more after using a small tablet.
I'm so happy you found it helpful! It's amazing how you kind of adapt to whatever size you get. If you're used to a 13 in moving up to a 16 feels like a huge upgrade. Once you get good with the size you're using, it's surprising how much better upgrading to a bigger size feels. Sounds like you might be due for a nice upgrade treat 😁!
I just got a XP-Pen Artist 24 Pro because of your previous video and I love it. I do spend more than 5 hours on Blender, but anyway the tablet is big enough that it makes a great second monitor when I'm not using the pen.
Oh good, I'm so happy you ended up with a tablet you enjoy! Yes, that tablet does make a really good secondary display, especially since it comes with a really high quality stand. I bet your Blender creations are top notch if you're putting that kind of time in!
I just purchased the huion 24" 4k, after having my ipad pro a few years now. I wanted the bigger screen for large scale cities with high detail, which just blurred on the ipad. Great review, lots of great information. Also your daughter is adorable, don't worry my son doesn't listen to me either haha 😅
Thank you! Always love hearing from a fellow parent 👶. She recently learned the "just lay down flat on my face and scream until I get what I want" technique, so life is getting interesting. I have an iPad too and I'm with you - the extra space really feel nice. I like to use my iPad if I'm going to study out of a book because it's easier to read along and draw, but if I'm doing anything serious the big screen is a huge help.
I would definitely go for the 24inch no matter what. With the 24inch being $2k, whats $200 more for an ergo arm (if you have the desk for it). The smaller tablet caused me to squint and strain my eyes a bit more. Plus i love being able to do giant strokes with the 24inch.
Me too, the 24inch is what I primarily use too when I'm working from my office. You're very right, the price gap really has closed when you look at the different size offerings. At this point it's a matter of how/what you use it for.
Thank you so much for this video! I’m a concept artist and my wrist is crying for help. My 12” Ipad pro is good for sketching, but not so much for daily work lol. I’ll be looking to upgrade!
Happy I could help! I actually just decided to treat myself to an iPad 😁 (because, you know, I don't have enough "things"). I have to say I really like it, but I can totally see where you're coming from. If you're doing full fledged concept art that's going to be quite a wrist work out. Unless you're going to be featured on an apple commercial, or fly on planes a lot, I bet you would love a bigger size!
Thanks so much for this video. I have a 24 cintiq, but an old version and wanted to upgrade to have less parallax when painting. I did buy the Huion pro 16"plus. It is great, takes up less space on my table (which I also made myself.). But, you point about the panning around and the hours per week I use it help me decide to send it back and got for the larger 24"version. I paint for a living and spend 20+hrs per week digitally painting. Strain and posture is a bit thing and receptive actions become a really pain, literally. Thanks for the clear advice and keep producing the great videos.
Making tables for yourself is the best! Happy I could help -- that's a ton of time you're putting in to your craft, definitely agree with your decision, you deserve it!
It's the Keytron K2 (Gateron Brown) with the Drop Skylight Series Keycaps. I like it, it's a good size, but I'm always on the lookout for better keyboards.
It is Figure Drawing Design and Invention by Michael Hampton. He has a TH-cam channel that has a ton of good content (th-cam.com/channels/gPj2jSpcJaN6C5xMi8ohfg.html). I have a few books on anatomy, but this one simplifies the shapes really well.
This was awesome. Thanks, been thinking of what to replace my existing huion 1060P with for hobby art. Was initially leaning towards 24 because of the "what if" but this video brought clarity and I'll be moving forward with a 16". Thanks Taylor! Haha; "We should probably see someone for that", that was gold
I wish someone made a 19-20" screen tablet, 1440p or 4K resolution, with express keys. Hate that Wacom abandoned this to sell it as an extra feature (that isn't part of the tablet frame) and also really really LOVE the dial on XP-Pen, seamless brush size adjustment on the fly. 16" loses real estate sharing space between the canvas and the panels (be that Photoshop, Clip Studio, Krita, or what ever your app of choice is). While 22-24" hogs up desk space and I found can cause arm fatigue traversing so much surface area. I mean there are 3" steps and less between 12, 13 and 16" tablets, but the only option from 16" is all the way up to 22 and higher? A 6" gap in every brand lineup.... nothing in between? 😮💨
I'm with you there -- with the size of the bezels on the side of the tablet, they definitely could have fit in some express keys. I do have trouble adjusting brush size in photoshop -- I've taken just to right clicking and manually dragging, but that's kind of annoying. I have to say though, I've been using the Kamvas Pro 24" 4K tablet, and the fact that it has small bezels compared to the Cintiq Pro makes it feel significantly smaller on my desk. The screen doesn't feel as good as the Cintiq, but I still really like the Kamvas pro. It could be a good option for people who want a bigger tablet but don't want to sacrifice a ton of desk space. Plus, getting a 65% keyboard (Keytron K2) has made it much easier to use the keyboard along side the tablet.
So happy to have you along for the ride! Thank you for the kind words 🙏. Lots more good stuff to come (as soon as that little one gets back in her nap routine 😅)
As a person who uses a cintiq 13 HD and ipad pro 12.9 inch for professional and personal illustration/design/animation the cintiq pro 24 is certainly enticing… but for now it’s definitely more of a “use what you have and make the most of it” mentality as I save up for an upgraded desk set-up for when my current computer dies. However, I prefer the portability of an ipad over being chained to a desk. 😩
I'm all about that mentality, it's so easy for me to get caught up in a furry of "just buy this thing it will make you better at X" (that's why I have an excess of climbing shoes and GIs). I have an iPad Pro as well, I got it because I was forced to go back to the office for work and I wanted to have a way to do some digital drawing on the go (and treat myself). Honestly I'm still learning how to use it correctly -- it's a different experience than using a large pen tablet. I have a tendency to just grab a sketchpad to do my drawing when I'm on the go, so I'm actively trying to force myself to draw on my iPad more.
I had a 24" one and I swapped because it was so big and bulky it was consuming me and I would rather work on my ipad. I have moved into a 16" one and I feel lighter and better!
I agree! I've been doing a lot of studying lately while I draw so I usually have a few anatomy and drawing books open while I work. It's almost impossible with the larger tablet to have all the materials open, so I've been using the iPad too just to have more space. And now that my little one needs constant attention, I can take the iPad with me when I watch her so I can get some sketching in if she keeps herself busy for 8 seconds.
Ugh I'm somewhere in the middle. I work long hours but I'm not interested in a huge desk hog. I bought the 16" Huion 4k a few months ago and it just died on me after a little over 1 month of use (so I can't return it anymore and Huion support is painfully slow and annoying, I just gave up on it), I guess using it for more than 8 hours a day is just taxing to the small unit. Might be wishful thinking right now that they would do 4k 19-21" displays, as they're banking on users jumping to their higher tier product As usual though I love your humor and your videos, always insightful and helpful than most popular tablet review channels out there :)
Wow it already died on you? That's really concerning, I have one so I'll have to be on the lookout for any issues. I just got the new 24" Huion in today, so I'll see how well that one fits on my desk 😁. Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy it, sometimes I think I can drive my family a little crazy with my sense of humor 😅.
@@TaylorStine Yeah, first few days was great. But started experiencing issues after 8+ hours of work-- it would glitch, flicker, then darken to an almost black screen. I would let it cool down for a few minutes so I can use it again (also tried other troubleshooting like plugging directly to wall outlet, changing refresh rate, cables etc to no avail).. it gradually got worse and eventually died. Huion after a month figured it was a cable issue, which was absolutely frustrating. Already behind in deadlines, I couldn't spend more time with the back and forth documenting everything and gaining nothing (I just wanted to ship back the product so they can test it all by themselves, but they won't give me an address), so this experience made me quite hesitant to try out other Huion products in the future. :/ Currently just waiting for XPpen to release a pro model with their new X3 pen (heard it was great, it uses digital signal instead of analog), or I might just bite the bullet with a 24" Wacom Pro since you really liked it as well. But I'm still looking forward to your 24" Huion review. Will be considering it (albeit quite begrudgingly lol) if it comes to par with the Wacom. I figured the 16"'s form factor might've come with a disadvantage with internals overheating under long use.
Thank you! She's a little ball of chaos, but I think we'll keep her 😄. She screamed with joy when I told her this, and I think in baby that means "thanks!"
Glad to see you again boss, I left a comment about reviewing the Huion 24 Plus 2.5K res but now that Huion has made their 4K 24 in to compete with Wacom do you think that would be something to review? As always, appreciate the honesty and do0wn to earth reviews you bring here!
Thanks for the support, it's huge for me. Haha well since you ask, I might just have such a tablet in my cart, waiting for the right caffeine high to motivate me to press the "place order" button ☕. That tablet looks sweeettt.
I upgraded from a 16 mobile studio to a 24, still waiting for it to arrive. I was attracted to the idea of working portable, but ironically it's rarer than I thought it would be. I never really had a issue quality wise on the 16in, but it would be nice zooming in and out less and seeing more. That is what usually throws off my proportions, it can go to 4k, but you have to really look close. I'm a tall guy, so even the 16 in looks small to me, I'm hoping the 24 in will feel normal. XD
I'm the same way - I have trouble working anywhere but my desk. I'm not really a multitasker, so having a dedicated space I can go is really helpful for me. It sounds like you made a good choice!
Thanks for your video. Although I am drawing on bigger 12,9" and 14,2" tablets this size is sometimes to small for gesture drawings because I also draw from shoulder like you. Drawing is a hobby since 3 years for me and I am drawing on regular base. Therefore I am consider to buy a bigger pen display because I love gesture drawing . Please continue such videos🙂
I really think there should be a mid-size between the 16" and 24". A 20 inch screen would be perfect, not massive but still has a comfortable amount of screen space
I like the idea! I think they may make non display tablets in sizes like that. My ideal size would be one that fits perfectly into a 15 inch lap too bag, which is a little loose on the 16" screen. Maybe 20" would be perfect.
@@jeroenvdw I just ordered the new 24 inch 4k Huion, so I'll be reviewing that soon! I'm really looking forward to seeing how it compares to the Cintiq Pro.
I just got the VESA mount for the Cintiq Pro and attached a Huion tablet stand to it. So far it works okay with the adjustable height desk I have, but I could see myself in the future buying an arm. It's just a bummer it costs so much 😑
Brother I just bought my first huion 16 pro yesterday And I plugged it to my iMac It was working fine the first hour and then I turned it off and I went to eat I came back to turn it on and it shows a black screen says no signal !! This honestly broke my heart 💔 because I was so excited to start drawing on it Does this happened to you too ? And if so, can you help me please
Ugh really?? That's not right. I haven't seen that, but maybe it's the cable you're using. Are you going USB-c to USB-c? All cables are definitely not created equally, I've had good luck with this one: www.amazon.com/dp/B08KZPYGSS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_Z89CNT4GPNGKANP6NVNJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have a question regarding laptop, what laptop do you think is best to buy if we are moving to digital art - I am looking between the MacBook Air or pro but can’t decided as I will be using a display tablet?
I think it depends a lot on how much desk space you have and if you need to take your tablet anywhere. If you have the space and you only work in one spot, it's probably worth it to get the bigger size if you're practicing that much.
Thanks for the video. It covered a lot of my queries. I've considered a lot of display tablets to replace my Huion Inspiroy Q11k v2. I've had Wacoms in the past (not display versions) and the last two have just fallen apart, the batteries didn't retain a charge and the bluetooth was iffy at best. (I use a MacBook Pro 2012 which has now reached retirement age given how many apps are telling me there isn't enough RAM to function properly). I agree desk space is one of my biggest concerns as I work in non-artistic industry and often have two laptops on the go plus iPad at the same time. But so is seeing the whole picture. I hate not being able to see my complete canvas when I draw or sculpt or model. I guess I will go for a 16in or thereabouts, be that a Huion or XP-Pen. Finally, loved the comments re hating 'corp speak'. I'm with your there. And the out-takes too.
I may have worded this weird -- you can just switch the display off but the tablet stays on. So the tablet still functions normally, but you remap the tablet area to a different monitor. You could leave the tablet display on and re-map it, but I just find that distracting.
I am also in the corporate world and considering getting the new Cintiq 16 pro 2021 due to already having multiple monitors on my (quite large) desk for work. Now you're confusing me on whether I should get the 24 inch Cintiq instead, I easily spend more than 5 hours a week in detailed drawing. I'm not particularly fond of getting brands other than Wacom, simply because I had good experience with all 3 previous Wacom tablets I owned. The joy of working in the corporate world with disposable income but still worry about buyers' remorse...
Someday I'll leave the corporate world behind and open up a movie studio that only makes practical effects movies, but for now, I have the same issues 😅. I've been testing out the new Huion Kamvas 24" Pro, and I have to say I never realized how much the bezels on the sides of the Cintiq Pro impact the size of the tablet. The Kamvas doesn't have the bezels and it feels so much smaller, it's really easy to store on my desk while I do corporate stuff. But I'm with you - all of the Wacom products I've used have had really good longevity and I do really like the way they feel. Honestly, it sounds like for your use case, you would probably be good with either, but if you're drawing that much the 24 inch is a good option. It is big, but like everything you get used to it on your desk. Either way, I don't think you'll have any regrets. You might consider too if you're going to use a stand with it, because the Cintiq pro doesn't come with one and the stands Wacom sells look like they need to be fixed in one place on the desk. Hope this helps! 😁
I like it -- I'm working on a review but the tl;dr is the screen doesn't feel as good as the Cintiq pro, but it has a smaller footprint. I think it's priced just a tad too high --but overall it's a great device.
Hey I am a intuos user and I want to switch to a screen tablet, and I do texture, modelling sculpting and painting so what shall you recommend 16 or 24.
Hey great channel by the way I have a question is your huion on a laminated screen and if it is does it make it better to draw on compared to a non laminated screen? And also how does that tablet compared to your Wacom? The drawing experience I mean and do you have to turn the drivers on and off or can you use both at the same time? Sorry I just have a lot of questions based off of your setup thanks
Thank you! I'm actually not sure, I didn't make any changes to the screen, so whatever the factory default is (I don't think there's any lamination, but I could be wrong). The Cintiq pro screen definitely feels a little better, I feel like I can have a little bit of a softer touch when I draw. But once I was using the Huion for a little while I got used to it and really stopped noticing. The drivers hate each other, it's such a pain to switch the tablets. Maybe there's a way where you can get both to work, but when I wanted to switch I had to uninstall / reinstall each driver and restart my computer.
I’m about to study a degree in digital art, which is why I’m still on the fence about getting a 16”, considering that I’ll be drawing on it for hours. But 24” sounds huge. If there was a 20” it would be perfect for me. Hoping Huion will release a new 20” with QHD. What would you recommend?
If I could go back in time, I would get my degree in digital art. If you're only going to be drawing, you might consider an iPad pro. I've been doing a lot of my drawing on my iPad now that my little one is big, and I don't get as much time to sit at my desk. And if that's the case, you might want to get a pen tablet to do your sculpting -- I definitely don't need the screen when I sculpt. But if you want an all in one type deal, I would just go with the 16" -- you're probably going to be working in different environment when your in school, and it will be handy to bring your tablet along with you. It's weird because whatever size you get, your brain mentally adapts so you stop noticing it.
Hello! There is this one thing that has been bugging me for a while. I want to go into digital art, and I'm planning on getting a 16" tablet. The problem is that I can't seem to figure out which to go for: The Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 or The Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (4k) Plus. I just can't seem to find any good review where they compare the two. It would be awesome if I could see you do something like that.
Check out my latest review! The Cintiq Pro screen definitely feels better than the Kamvas pro, but the Kamvas is good enough that I haven't bothered to switch back for almost a year.
im thinking to buy the 16' one, and a benq 27' display, so i can see what i make on the display right??? im a photographer, i use lightroom and psd a lot ! so ... the 16 or 22???
Depends what your photographing - if you're doing stuff that might need a lot of detailed re-touching like portraits or landscapes the bigger size might be worth it for you.
I'm so glad you like it! I used ClipStudio Pro to draw it in 2D. ClipStudio has a great feature where you can make a timelapse of your drawing. And then I use ZBrush for the modeling, and Substance Painter 3D for texturing.
@@TaylorStine Thanks I really appreciate, my daughter is a graphic designer workijng in UK but cant use this kind of criativity at work, but like to paint and draw different things, also magic creatures but only in 2d, I showed you video and she was very excited to start doing 3D arts. I really like these things but have no abilities, besides the hard work you need a lot of imagination, If I was capable I would create and then print in 3d, yours are awesome !!!! and you inspired her to begin with 3d creation, I sent to her your answer and she will look after these 3 programs, thanks again for your support,
Wow this is really awesome to hear, it makes me really happy to hear your daughter liked my video that means a lot. I'd love to see what she creates! It's definitely one of those things that if you practice you get better at really quick. I'm working on making a video on how to go from a 2d sketch to a 3d character to a video game, hopefully it's helpful.
Just getting back into art after many many years so the 16" should probably do me fine. BUT...I already have an iPad 12.9" so a 16" art tablet seems like a lot of money for an incremental upgrade in size. I think I'll go for the larger tablet instead (off-brand, of course, so I can still afford to eat) and when I'm not using it I'll hang it on the wall like a fake window and pretend I live in much more interesting locales...
I like your ingenuity 🤓 I have a 12.9 iPad as well - I think this is a good choice. If I'm going to do something quick or use a lot of reference books I'll use the iPad because of the small size. But when I do more intense work it's almost always on the bigger tablet (unless I'm travelling).
It might depend on which applications you're planning to use. When I use Photoshop, the smaller resolution isn't a big deal, but for an app like Zbrush the 4k resolution is much better. For the longest time I was using a 1080p monitor and never really noticed it until I tried 4k, so it might be okay.
@@TaylorStine I'm gonna use it with ZBrush...I know 4K would be nice but if the 1080p is good enough, I would probably go with the budget side, though I wanna get a chance to lay my hands both of them first before making the decision. I love your review, thank you for making clips with such a great content, really helps a lot
I had a Surface Pro that was about a 11"-12", now I have an Asus Zenbook which is 14". Im thinking about getting a Cintiq Pro maybe 24" to avoid all the zooming in and out. Might be a Black Friday/Cyber Monday gift or a Tax Season gift for myself. Edit: My goal is to become a full-time artist.
Good question -- I have actually been using 4k on the bigger screen but things look a little too small on the smaller screen in 4k. I wish I had a stand 😑 I have a video coming out that is going to give feedback after using the Cintiq for 6 months and this is definitely a topic I'm going to bring up.
Pretty much the same. I've had pretty much a similar experience for each and they both roughly have the same functionality. They only time they really have issues is when I try to plug in both the Huion and the Wacom tablet at the same time 😅. It looks like there may be more options to customize settings in the Wacom interface, but I don't really mess with many of the settings. Plus it's uglier than the Huion interface.
hows it going Taylor, I just got my huion 24 pro , but colors doesn't Mach my 27 inch alienware monitor. did you have that problem. I try to change th color settings but it's not really working for me if it does move the slider it skips by alot.. I really don't want to pack it up and go for wacom 24 pro... but this is so frustrating.. how you do it?should I change the settings on my graphics csrd. my alienware ware 27 inch looks good way better then huion and my 27 inch isn't 4k. but it's a gaming monitor at 240 refresh rate
Yeah unfortuntately this is something I just mentioned in my latest review of Kamvas Pro 24" 4K. The colors do look a little bit off compared to my Cintiq (and main monitor). But I'm really not the best with color, so after a while I just stopped noticing it. You can adjust the color temperature, but I still couldn't get it quite right. I know how it is though - when you get a new tablet you really want it to be up to standard because you paid all that money for it.
Haha you're not the first one to tell me that! I wondered why the size was designed as "extra small" on Amazon 😂. It probably explains why I'm so terrible at first person shooters.
i’m looking at the xppen 22 plus, and the artist pro 16 gen 2 which one would you recomend, the 22 has a 1920 by 1080 display, idk if that is gonna be annoying i am doing animation and not sure if the extra space for a cheaper tablet, or the more expensive for colors ig?? i would get the 19 artist pro gen 2 no question, but i can’t afford the extra so idk what to do
I'm pretty sure this is the screen size, not the actual dimensions of the product (since the Cintiq Pro has huge bezels it's probably way bigger than 24").
So clip studio is what I have been using (and it works great),, but recently I started trying out Photoshop for a couple of reasons: 1. I just couldn't seem to get the brushes to look the way I wanted in Clip Studio. This is probably due more to my lack of clip studio skill than a problem with the software. 2. I'm starting to do more digital painting, and I'm more familiar with some of the tools to manipulate colors in Photoshop. 3. I do 3d renders and I want to start tweaking them and Photoshop seems the best software for that. But I have loved using clip studio
Hi!! Thanks a lot for this. It is super helpful!! I couldn’t decide between Huion Kamvas 22inch or the new Huion 16 inch…. This video really helped. As a hobby artist, I only draw on my iPad, so I don’t even know if I’ll like drawing on my laptop. So I guess 16 makes the most sense. Also- does anyone know if Fusion 360 works with Huion yet? I know they have a support for Wacom now.
I've definitely used the 4K version with Zbrush and Substance painter. I will say that having 4K resolution definitely helps for ZBrush since the UI can be pretty dense -- having some extra screen space was helpful.
@@sikfreeze yeah you definitely can't read text when it's that small, but with Zbrush I think the ui is a little too puffy. Let me see if I can take a screenshot that shows it better.
that is so cool. I got the huion 24 pro... I still want to get wacome 24 pro but I'm just getting started. new to zbrush and maya.. how you do that with the clown heads. towards end of video when the turn.. that's awesome. I want to do thats.that's.. keep them videos coming. good content. ..
I have been using cintiq 16 pro since 5 years and I am a 3d character artist. My eyes get strained reading small texts in zbrush or any other software. Should I upgrade my tab to 24 pro. Please suggest. Thankyou
😁 you could do what I do when I go to a restaurant -- make a decision at the last minute and just go with your gut. I usually end up ordering something I like!
The only thing that gives me a desire to upgrade is I wish I had touch on a desktop tablet, but I refuse to pay 3 thousand dollars for Wacoms touch (which was broken on my 22 HD touch)
All of this is to say if you want to do art, you don't need expensive stuff.
I started with a 16 inch display then when I saved up some funds I upgraded to a 22 inch display (its definitely worth the investment and glad I chose the smaller size the first time)
oh awesome! This is great to hear -- I agree when you move to a bigger screen it's like "Oh yeah, I got this".
Every bit with the baby is very cute. I love it. Thank you I just recently got a 16 inch tablet and didn't know if I was missing out on much more. So thank you.
Happy I could help out!
OMG you described my situation perfectly… im glad he made the decision for us
im getting the same one aswell!
Thanks, that's just the question I was considering. I don't regret thinking about 16 right now, and considering 24.
Something I didn't do before.
@@TaylorStine I heard good things about the kamvas 24 plus. Im looking forward for u to review it.!
😂😂😂
Cool, it helps a lot! I’ll go with 16”
Thanks!
So happy I could help!
@@TaylorStine I'll definitely give my feedback here once i upgrade! 😆
The glove drawer labeled per day was actually funny!
Good video, thanks man for making the decision for me, it was driving me nuts deciding! 😆
Dude I have just found your channel because I am looking for a drawing tablet for myself and let me just say Im sticking around for a while! You are amazing!
This makes me so happy to hear, after a tough day at work this is just the thing I needed to read 😁. More good stuff to come, happy you're here!
This is good practical insight, especially the 16 inch doubling as a regular tablet. not a lot of people think of that.
This is a great video! I appreciate that you actually have a view and explain it.
Thank you! So happy you enjoyed it.
Great video, it was very helpful and it was very easy to watch, really got my attention. Besides, your work is amazing, loved it
For me personally, if your going 22in or larger it needs to be VESA compatible (a cheap $30 arm has treated me well) so I can move the monitor out of the way and off my desk when I’m not using it.
Thank you very much for this entertaining and informative review! You have solved my problem and inspired me with the way you work. All the best!
MASSIVELY appreciate this.. Just ordered the new 16 wacom pro. :)
😍 this made my day, glad I could help! I hope it works well for you.
Thanks for this video this is great! I think I'll get the 16 and maybe later go bigger to the 24!
Man, finally, a video of someone not secretly shilling one device but an actual thoughtful opinion. Thank you, sounds reasonable, subbed.
💜💜💜 much appreciated! Happy to help.
Thanks for the video. Btw. What’s that wireless mechanics keyboard? It looks awesome
It's the Keytron K2 (Gateron Brown) with the Drop Skylight Series Keycaps. I like it, it's a good size, but I'm always on the lookout for better keyboards.
Thanks for the insight, really helped.
Glad to hear it!
Hey Taylor great video! I just want to ask what's that anatomy book you have on the upper right screen in 2:21?
It is Figure Drawing Design and Invention by Michael Hampton. He has a TH-cam channel that has a ton of good content (th-cam.com/channels/gPj2jSpcJaN6C5xMi8ohfg.html). I have a few books on anatomy, but this one simplifies the shapes really well.
That was really useful. Thank you very much.
So happy you found it helpful 😁
This was awesome. Thanks, been thinking of what to replace my existing huion 1060P with for hobby art. Was initially leaning towards 24 because of the "what if" but this video brought clarity and I'll be moving forward with a 16". Thanks Taylor!
Haha; "We should probably see someone for that", that was gold
Great videos and great art! Thanks for making this. I subscribed.
😃😃😃 thank you!
Great video-- helpful, thoughtful info, fun humor, really enjoyable and down to earth! Just subscribed. :) Well done!
So happy to have you along for the ride! Thank you for the kind words 🙏. Lots more good stuff to come (as soon as that little one gets back in her nap routine 😅)
Thank you for making this video, it's very helpful! :)
This video is very helpful. Thanks so much
Glad to help ✍️☺️
I'm currently using a 16" and considering an upgrade. "5 or more hours a week..." - I do that a day. I think the decision is made.
Very good and useful video! Thank you!
You made purchasing more sensible 16 is occasional 22 and higher is dedication/job.
3:42 is there a way to turn the display completely? Or does it have to be a monitor mode when turning into a tablet
This really helped me. Subbed!
💜💜💜 Thank you!
Is it better to have graphic tablet without screen + 2 monitors, or graphic tablet with screen + 1 monitor?
I had a 24" one and I swapped because it was so big and bulky it was consuming me and I would rather work on my ipad. I have moved into a 16" one and I feel lighter and better!
I agree! I've been doing a lot of studying lately while I draw so I usually have a few anatomy and drawing books open while I work. It's almost impossible with the larger tablet to have all the materials open, so I've been using the iPad too just to have more space. And now that my little one needs constant attention, I can take the iPad with me when I watch her so I can get some sketching in if she keeps herself busy for 8 seconds.
Thx for this video man
Happy to help.
Might be wishful thinking right now that they would do 4k 19-21" displays, as they're banking on users jumping to their higher tier product
As usual though I love your humor and your videos, always insightful and helpful than most popular tablet review channels out there :)
Currently just waiting for XPpen to release a pro model with their new X3 pen (heard it was great, it uses digital signal instead of analog), or I might just bite the bullet with a 24" Wacom Pro since you really liked it as well. But I'm still looking forward to your 24" Huion review. Will be considering it (albeit quite begrudgingly lol) if it comes to par with the Wacom. I figured the 16"'s form factor might've come with a disadvantage with internals overheating under long use.
Impaccable content! Thanks. Still not sure which one to buy but now it's not because I don't have the rights info :)
I'm glad it helped!
I really like your video, it helps me a lot.btw, your daughter is really cute and lovely
Thank you! She's a little ball of chaos, but I think we'll keep her 😄. She screamed with joy when I told her this, and I think in baby that means "thanks!"
Can you show us your keyboard and how you use it with the tablet? Thanks great video.
@@TaylorStine What a legend lmfao can’t wait to see the next thing you put out regardless! Keep well and safe!
16 it is. I was going for the 24, but then figured.... I don't need it... yet.
Huion also has a 20 inch screen. I still don't know which Huion display tablet I want to buy, I will probably go for the new 24 inch 4k 10 bit panel.
@@jeroenvdw I just ordered the new 24 inch 4k Huion, so I'll be reviewing that soon! I'm really looking forward to seeing how it compares to the Cintiq Pro.
@@TaylorStine Cool I'll wait for the review first then
@@TaylorStine Hi, did you get the Huion 24 pro 4k? I am curious to hear more about it
You should get a flex arm for your 24 inch display. You can fold your huge tablet away completely from your desk in a sec.
I just got the VESA mount for the Cintiq Pro and attached a Huion tablet stand to it. So far it works okay with the adjustable height desk I have, but I could see myself in the future buying an arm. It's just a bummer it costs so much 😑
Thank you. I was trying to decide and you helped me with exactly what information I needed. Relax, you will do well 😉
Made my day, thank you. Relaxing is hard for me, but I'll do my best 😅
Nice analysis.
😄
Brother I just bought my first huion 16 pro yesterday
And I plugged it to my iMac
It was working fine the first hour and then I turned it off and I went to eat
I came back to turn it on and it shows a black screen says no signal !!
This honestly broke my heart 💔 because I was so excited to start drawing on it
Does this happened to you too ?
And if so, can you help me please
Ugh really?? That's not right. I haven't seen that, but maybe it's the cable you're using. Are you going USB-c to USB-c? All cables are definitely not created equally, I've had good luck with this one:

It works perfectly now I really appreciate you
I have a question regarding laptop, what laptop do you think is best to buy if we are moving to digital art - I am looking between the MacBook Air or pro but can’t decided as I will be using a display tablet?
Definitely the Pro. But if you want to save some money, I have an old Lenovo P1 that works great and was cheaper at the time.
What if you are using the tablet for practice 1-2 hours a day. Would you also so 16 inch is a good choice?
Thx for sharing ! How do you switch off the tablet but still using it for drawing ? Doesn't the pen need to be scanned by the tablet ?
I may have worded this weird -- you can just switch the display off but the tablet stays on. So the tablet still functions normally, but you remap the tablet area to a different monitor. You could leave the tablet display on and re-map it, but I just find that distracting.
@@TaylorStine THX. I later found how it was done...
its in 22 but what do you think about kamvas 24? I think there is a mist to get cleared between Kamvas 24 and Wacom 24 in terms of specs and price.
I like it -- I'm working on a review but the tl;dr is the screen doesn't feel as good as the Cintiq pro, but it has a smaller footprint. I think it's priced just a tad too high --but overall it's a great device.
OMG, your baby! So cute!!!!
First time seeing your channel. Nice to meet u.
Whats your work?
btw, i am with 13 now.....might switch to 24. But I am a dev gamer, just playing around with my games assets.
Hey I am a intuos user and I want to switch to a screen tablet, and I do texture, modelling sculpting and painting so what shall you recommend 16 or 24.
24, definitely if you're doing 3D work.
@@TaylorStine Thank you!
I like how you think .
what is the 3d modeling software you are using?
ZBrush
Hi, what program was used to draw this 3D "creature" ?, it looks fantastic. Nice video.
@@TaylorStine This video will be great. When she start to do something in 3D I will send her instagram. Thanks.
i have some vision problem. My eyes cant see without my glasses on. would it be too difficult to see in 16"?
I’m considering kamvas 22 plus but not sure if the 1080p resolution will make the pixels too visible or not
It might depend on which applications you're planning to use.
Keep doing this! Especially the quantitative thing 😂
💜
What about 2k, 4k screen? Did you have a stand for your Cintiq?
Good question -- I have actually been using 4k on the bigger screen but things look a little too small on the smaller screen in 4k.
I wish I had a stand 😑 I have a video coming out that is going to give feedback after using the Cintiq for 6 months and this is definitely a topic I'm going to bring up.
Good video! Just one burning question, though: WHY not lick the wall?
What are the drivers and the drawing experience (pen feel) like on the Huion in comparison to the Wacom? Thanks!
I know how it is though - when you get a new tablet you really want it to be up to standard because you paid all that money for it.
dude the size of that mousepad is considered a crime in some parts of the world. good review tho
Haha you're not the first one to tell me that! I wondered why the size was designed as "extra small" on Amazon 😂. It probably explains why I'm so terrible at first person shooters.
@@TaylorStine 100% plus u have a 5kg mouse. your mouse/mousepad setup is only good to game minesweeper
i’m looking at the xppen 22 plus, and the artist pro 16 gen 2 which one would you recomend, the 22 has a 1920 by 1080 display, idk if that is gonna be annoying
i am doing animation and not sure if the extra space for a cheaper tablet, or the more expensive for colors ig??
i would get the 19 artist pro gen 2 no question, but i can’t afford the extra so idk what to do
is the 16" and 24" referring to the screen size only or the entire tablet including the bezels?
I'm pretty sure this is the screen size, not the actual dimensions of the product (since the Cintiq Pro has huge bezels it's probably way bigger than 24").
@@TaylorStine yup, just got the 16 pro and can confirm its just the screen size, thanks anyways.
Is 1st generation of XP Pen (as XP Pen Artist 22HD) still relevant for beginner artists in 2024? Thanks ^^
Do you use clip studio?
So clip studio is what I have been using (and it works great),, but recently I started trying out Photoshop for a couple of reasons:
Now I’m kinda interested in Huion pro 16 (2.5k), would that be good for something like zbrush and substance painter?
I've definitely used the 4K version with Zbrush and Substance painter. I will say that having 4K resolution definitely helps for ZBrush since the UI can be pretty dense -- having some extra screen space was helpful.
@@TaylorStine 4k on a 16 inches screen wouldn't the ui be too small to read?
@@sikfreeze yeah you definitely can't read text when it's that small, but with Zbrush I think the ui is a little too puffy. Let me see if I can take a screenshot that shows it better.
