MyFlyDream - antenna tracker groundstation update

- Showing you the update on my MyFlyDream tracker based groundstation.
Circumstances meant that I had to buy a new Crossfire transmitter, so took the expensive plunge and went for the top model as it not only has a display on the rear with GPS display, RF information, model finder, a max of 2W output power but it also includes WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
So by adding a bluetooth to serial module means the GPS data that is coming down to the transmitter via Crossfire telemetry can be sent to the antenna tracker.
For information on how to do this yourself follow RT-RC's two videos which has all the info you need.
DON'T BUY an HC-05 module from eBay,Banggood etc. the 'compatible' firmware on these modules is different from the original DSD Tech HC-05 and theyt just won't work. I bought two from different suppliers which just didn't work.

I would recommend not using the on plane MyFlyDream modules that add the GPS details to the video stream, they seem flaky to me. I bought four of them and only two lasted and they run HOT!
If you are using Crossfire and have the full TX module use the bluetooth link, it just works and makes the electronics in your plane much cleaner.
@@Caroline_Tyler Thanks . Yes I got CF lite. Need sometime to figure out how to connect CF to Tracker via BT/Mavlink.
@@tungym Annoying only the full module has Bluetooth. Maybe use the Wi-Fi as full mavlink data is available through it. Perhaps an ESP32 WiFi module will work

Are MyFlyDream still putting stuff out? The AP was all the rage years ago (although my one blew up much to my annoyance) but I know a few people who liked the trackers

Thank you for the inspiration. I absolutely disliked the idea of having to put another piece of hardware into the craft in order to be able to run an antenna tracker. Aditionally, if you loose Video the tracker will most likely be lost from that moment.
Crossfire can also run Mavlink over WiFi now. So it might be possible to use this with a Micro TX or even a Tango 2 and an ESP8266 WiFi module to create a WiFi Hotspot and pass the serial data through. Winter project upcoming...
I used to have a Crossfire micro TX module but I lost that a couple of months ago (due to my own fault of leaving it in a case behind me at a flying field) so I bit the bullet and went for the full module. I had messed about with the wi-fi option and could not get it going. The bluetooth just works (as long as you get the proper HC-05 module.
Caroline what version of firmware are you running in you crossfire module tx.?
I keep my TX up to date. It's currently is running firmware v 6.12
And now I see 6.13 is available, time to jump on the upgrade bandwagon.

Did you buy the DSD tech HC-05 module? It's a lot dearer than the ones from eBay and banggood but the firmware is different. I tried 3 different other HC-05 modules, all of which failed to discover or bind to the crossfire transmitter.
so you need to have full tbs module for bluetooth?
Yes, the Bluetooth connection is only available on the full module.

No, sorry. I've moved on from using a tracker as the whole bluetooth link was proving to be rather unreliable.
why not to use wifi and then crossfire micro?
I've never got crossfire WiFi to work for me and you will still need some way of feeding in the mavlink data to the tracker via a serial link. The tracker does not do WiFi
