- EDDIE VEDDER of PEARL JAM performs the Tom Perry masterpiece WILDFLOWERS to begin the encore portion of their concert at XCEL ENERGY CENTER in Saint Paul, Minnesota on 8/31/23. At the beginning he tossed the Twins baseball helmet hat to Jason Van Houten who was celebrating his birthday!!! Filmed using an iPhone 12 Pro.
Probably the greatest, happiest moment of my life seeing this man perform this song at this concert. Immediately made me think of my wife and how she has been chasing contentness and self-confidence for so long and she's finally finding it this summer. She was there with me! Pure freedom. Pure cathartic release. I've never cried so much during a concert. I just turned 32 and this band has gotten me through so many dark times already. I wish so bad I could do night 2! Thank you so much to all the guys in PJ and thank you so much Eddie Vedder for this cover. I will cherish that night for as long as I live.
You like this, you should have been front row when Tom did it. Eddie is amazing
Your comment was beautiful. Your wife is a very lucky lady. Hope y’all have a wonderful long life together.
Wow ….beautiful moment …thank you for sharing this ….I’m sorry to hear about your wife passing ..keep this video on hand at all times …grief is like glitter ….it never really goes away but your sure glad you had it 🙏. My husband died suddenly too…I’ve learned how to go on and be joyful and music helps …best to you
@lindacone4639 I lost my husband too, and Pearl Jam helped me through some really dark times, especially their song "Come Back " 😢 hits me real hard but it helped me coup with my husband death. I'm sorry for everyone's loss. All I know is music does heal broken hearts like mine here's to Pearl Jam!!!
@@laurawatters914 “Come Back” would be a very special song that could hold beautiful memories for you…Laura God bless you and help you heal your heart and soul. Love ❤️✌️🤘🙏
I have a feeling Eddie is a really nice human.
He’s a talented Empath with a great heart and a soothing voice.❤
Good feeling. Eddie is a good guy
I have always loved this song. I was the recording engineer on this album . The producer, Peter Wolf, insisred that the band write a ballad tune. They resisted a bit at first. They went back to their hotel that night and wrote that song. The next day they came to the studio and proudly presented this heartfelt song. We recorded it and the rest is now history. The feeling I get ny reading these comments is very special and hard to describe. I can't believe it was over 30 years ago ❤🎶🥲
That’s so cool! You are actually a part of that song’s history!!❤
Dude I'm so jelly. Thank you so much for the work, possibly the greatest album ever written, particularly now that I've heard all of it. You,Tom, and Harry Green are friend of mine. Changed my life initially and continues to bring me joy, peace love and happiness brother
You one very lucky guy!
Tom petty will forever live on and your a part of that your one lucky person.
Thank you for being a part of making it happen. I love this song so much.
Thank you Eddie for keeping Tom's music and memories alive .You are a beautiful person. ❤
His fan's safety first, remembers musicians we've lost, sings words of comfort to a grieving man..🩷
Putting others first. Mr Humble. Knows he’s blessed. Seizes the moment with inspirational talent. What else can ya say about this man, a wonderful human being.
WTF is humble about bragging of blowing pot smoke in someone's face? Seems rude to me.. Apply the same logic to cigarettes...
I know that it will never happen, but wouldn't it be great to have a tour of Eddie Vedder and the Heartbreakers. Call it the "We miss you Tom tour".
I like that idea
I love Eddie Vedder's rendition of "The Waiting."
I'd love this too!!!!!! ❤❤❤
Omg I'd love it 😭💔
No joking. There's a video of Adam Sandler doing a tom Petty song and it's amazing. I always wanted him to tour with them. Probably wouldn't go well because people would want him to be funny and stuff but it was awesome
Absolutely agree
This guy can hold an audience's attention like there's no tomorrow. Truly , 10 cuts above most other singers.
I 100% agree and have said that myself many times. While it’s important to keep the music coming, most lead singers will greet the crowd briefly, introduce the band, then say goodnight. Eddie always takes time to tell great stories and connect with the audience. It’s a tribal experience. Other bands should take notes.
A man that appreciates great music and those who have influenced music. He understands the importance of Tom Petty❤️❤️
and Prince...so glad he mentioned him.
This is what the internet was invented for!! I probably will not get an opportunity to see Pearl Jam live but a day after this concert I get to see Eddie on TH-cam!! Thank you!!!
Amen
Oh yes, I know that same situation but to see Eddie via u tube is thrilling...thanks so very much! ❤
Yes, thank you for saying that ... We can all share his words and music 🎶 with friends and family, so his thoughts will never end ...A credit to utube for saving history
I saw the Tom Petty band with Jacob Dylan and The Wallflowers . Awesome 😊
My brother and sister in law were at this show, they flew in from New York! They sent this video to me from the show❤️Tom and Eddie were very close. Eddie always pays tribute to our dear departed Tom Petty💘
I’m so glad he does. Tom Petty was a cool guy. I’m sure Eddie is too
I mourn Tom Petty almost every day as his music is on all my programmed channels on my car radio. My husband and I loved him and I miss him every time I hear any of our music. My son turned me on to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Metallica, Foo Fighters and I love Eddy Vedder and Dave Grohl on my own. Nothing can compare to the 60's and 70's music and those we've lost from our generation.
At this point, just give Eddie a damn phone book. I'll listen. And love it.
Precious beautiful man. 🙏 for health and happiness 🙏 🙏
Just today I watched the movie on the making of the Wildflower Album! My very 😍 favorite. Tom Petty lives on in the realm of love and music.
We lost so many greats over the years, Tom for me was such a gutt punch! One of the best shows I ever went too and I love Pearl Jam. We are all Wildflowers❤
TOTALLY shocking!!!
I saw him and the heartbreakers so many times. They were SO good just good music, Tom petty jokes very professional but so laid back. I love those guys. The day he died out my front door several neighbors were on their porches playing petty songs. A friend sent ME condolences haha. I made my band learn a petty song. The guys didn’t want to but they surprised me and did it. Before the played it they said I made them do it haha. Anyway if was a gif punch especially since the medi announced him dead 18 hours before he really was and it was hard to grieve because the las Vegas shooting happened same day.
Eddie playing beautiful music while help was on the way…. Pearl Jam is in the Rock God’s circle of Genius! Forever Grateful to have witnessed such
He’s still got the voice. ❤
Awww that was nice. Someone feels really special.
"this one's for the birthday boy over there. the one with the sparkle jacket. it'll go great with the helmet." … awesome!
It's a peace offering. Take a hit of Pearl Jam ⚡
From swinging thru the rafters, in Boston Garden, on Pearl Jams 1st tour, to making me cry today, Eddy Vedder has always moved me! He's a true artist, who's ever evolving!
Shit he didn't even play guitar in the beginning, and look at him now!
Eddie’s transition into an old hippie stoner rock god is almost complete.
😂
Love this comment so much lol
AND THAT'S A GOOD THING😊❤❤
….and well deserved!! I don’t smoke weed at all, but if he requested my presence, I’d smoke up a pound!! 😂❤😂
@ObamaFromKenya omg don’t say that! I’m gonna cry. Wtf happened? We were just 17 and now…we’re fkn OLD!!
Eddie is amazing…
I love everything about this dude. Been with PJ since the inception.
I worked as a stagehand in my college days. Ended up working a PJ show in either ‘98 or ‘99; I think it was the tour for Yield…anyways we were doing the bands load in and the band showed up to the venue. Eddie gets off the bus (this was when they were at the top of their game) and came over to the trucks a and started helping us unload the bands gear. The band also gave the stage hands the same catering that the band got; big steaks, fish, chicken, you name it! Great guys all around
Ed is just a kind soul, always thinking about others. Every show I see or watch he always makes a point of mentioning things like this and its so refreshing. Cheers Eddie, we all need to follow your kindness and make this world better.
My mom passed away in june and this song is so fitting for her she keeps helping me from wherever she is. ❤ 💞😢
It’s been 22 years for me, and this song still makes me ugly cry! I will miss my mom for as long as I live!
Never ceases to amaze me. Through the stages of life how he can cover another artist or friends song and it’s never a let down. Rip Tom
EDDIE YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL MUSICIAN. I MISS TOM PETTY SO MUCH! HE WAS GONE TOO SOON!
Please let more people see this, watch, listen, listen, and understand. Appreciate. Thank you for posting

My brother Andy died on Aug 22 and he love music. Thank you for this song.💙
My Brother Died June 7th in Chicago..We were supposed to go to the shows at the United Center..I went regardless because that's what he would of wanted me to do and vice versa... I'm sorry for your loss

“You belong among the Wild Flowers, You belong somewhere you feel free..” 💖🌸💖
It's amazing how a band can bring out so many emotions. They are unspeakably the best ever. They have helped me too and still are. LOVE TO ALL YOU GUYS. Simply can't get enough. Rock on!
I LOVE EDDIE'S STORIES❣️
So does everybody else apparently...LOL
This is Awesome in the deepest part of my heart… long live the truly memorable musicians that helped mend my broke heart and spirit by the lyrics that flowed through them to my mind body and soul!
The Heartbreakers are too great of a Band to stop touring together. Have Eddie be the lead in a Tom Petty Tribute Tour - it would be an amazing tour!!!!
They kind of have been. Steve Ferrone did a tour with the dirty knobs (Mike Campbell’s band) as did Stan lynch. Benmont and Blair have also joined them on occasion.
@@scottmoreau5630 I hear what you are saying but I am talking about a full blown US Tour where all songs are Petty and the Heartbreakers. And - Michael Campbell is no Eddie on the mic. lol
I needed this tonight. Thank you, Eddie😊….
We love you Eddie!!!
WOW watching this , not a fan but the diatribe brings some tears of joy, from here in El Salvador up the hill from Zonte beach, gracias
If you are not a fan why are you here?
Love him so
Amen so grateful for hearing you tribute. I've lost 2 boyz. Thankful
Don't know how long Ed been performing this song, but I just started playing it recently. Cool song for sure.

This is my soul song. I've felt that way since I first heard it in 1996 and I still feel that way. I can't imagine how amazing it was to hear Eddie vedder sing this live💖💖💖
