I go to a methadone clinic 5 times a week. Every morning when i call my medical transport to schedule my ride this song plays while I'm on hold and it is SO ANNOYING. I’m learning to play this song on the guitar so I searched TH-cam and came across this absolutely gem. I’ve been a long time fan of TP but was not as familiar with EV. His rich baritone voice blew me away. He did beautiful justice to this song and I loved how Tom nodded at him at the end as if to say “You did good”. Tom was such a class act and I miss him!

I feel ya! I was fortunate in getting to see him in Kansas City at an outdoors venue. It was was probably around 2001. It was great! The whole band is so talented and they are so tight together! I miss looking forward to see what they're going to come out with next. TP was a true master at songwriting. I have only been hit as hard by one other death of someone I never personally knew. And that's Chris Cornell. Another amazingly talented guy. I love his voice. So much soul and emotion in his singing. I'm so glad to have their contributions available to listen to even though they're gone.

So i came to youtube to listen to a good quality version and found this video. Eddie Vedder has officially made me love this song. I'm blown the hell away. Wow. I also didn't realize how hard of a song it is to sing. Much respect. Rest in peace, Mr. Petty. We love you.

I graduated high school in 1980, so I heard a bit of Tom Petty in my teen and early adult years. Eddie Vedder totally killed that vocal!
Eddie Vedder is the most humble and talented person! What a great talent! Just watching him while the band does its thing is awesome. I could watch him clap his hands for hours and drool the entire time.
Likewise! He could read the proverbial Whitepages and it would be great.
Oh jeez, Eddie is clearly putting on an act with his phony "Mr. Humble" thing. Learn a little about the guy. Virtually his entire "history" is fiction, a fabrication to make himself seem like a real rock star. And we'll just have to disagree on the "he has talent" part. Eddie's only talent is self-promotion.

This is so goddamn great it’s hard to even know what to say, but Mike Campbell is so freaking underrated it’s criminal.
You may be right but I think that's just outside the industry. Among actual musicians, I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't have *huge* respect for his work, for the way he uses his (incredible!) talent to service the song ... but what do I know? I'm a 47 year old woman from Berlin, Germany who's been a TP fan for 30 years. And Mike Campbell will always be one of my favourite guitar players!

I’m learning to play this song on the guitar so I searched TH-cam and came across this absolutely gem. I’ve been a long time fan of TP but was not as familiar with EV. His rich baritone voice blew me away. He did beautiful justice to this song and I loved how Tom nodded at him at the end as if to say “You did good”. Tom was such a class act and I miss him!

Damn, Eddie nailed it. I graduated high school in '92 jamming to Pearl Jam. I've always loved Tom Petty. Sometimes it just hurts the way the vibe just fits.
Absolutely brilliant! Tom's was the only musician's passing that really hit me hard. I grew up on his music, one of my biggest regrets is never seeing him in concert. But he left such an amazing collection of music behind that I am still discovering. Thanks Tom and may you rest in peace.
I feel ya! I was fortunate in getting to see him in Kansas City at an outdoors venue. It was was probably around 2001. It was great! The whole band is so talented and they are so tight together! I miss looking forward to see what they're going to come out with next. TP was a true master at songwriting. I have only been hit as hard by one other death of someone I never personally knew. And that's Chris Cornell. Another amazingly talented guy. I love his voice. So much soul and emotion in his singing. I'm so glad to have their contributions available to listen to even though they're gone.
