    Spraying the dead flower heads looks great. I love Black and Blue Salvia. Mine do better in pots than in the ground. Your sweet alyssum is fabulous. Did you buy plants, plugs or sow seed? Zone 5/6

    Steph your Salvias look amazing, some of mine are struggling or dead from this heat, i'm learning that i have to protect them from the intense sun. i'm gonna go with yay on the Alliums. hummingbirds come about a foot away from me lol.

      Thanks! I do notice a bit of that intense protection really helps too. Wow…a foot. That’s amazing.

    Hi Steph - I love your enthusiasm...and it's a yay from me for your alliums, they also make good dried flowers for Christmas too...
    I checked out your channel initially because of overwintering Salvias - in your earlier video from last winter - as I wasn't sure whether to lift them or not, after watching I think it's worth the effort to go ahead and do it...I'm in Scotland and mine have done great over here too, the only difference being...we don't have Hummingbirds to drink the nectar!...that was amazing to actually see them in your garden...I always thought that they were in jungles or rainforests!
    Anyway, keep up the good work with the videos - you have a yourself new subscriber! 😉🌻

      Hello! Thanks I appreciate the nice feedback. It’s so cool to meet somebody from Scotland. I would like to visit there someday. The black and blue salvia is still going strong over here. I wish you had hummingbirds! I’m spoiled over here.

      If was pretty cool that the hummingbird flew over right when I said I wish I could see a hummingbird right now

      @@FlowerFanatic You really should come over during the spring/summer...some beautiful countryside and cities too...😊
      This is the first time I've tried salvias...think I've 5 different types...Amistad, Curviflora, Love and Wishes, Amathist Lips...but my favourite is Nachtvlinder...it's a low growing one for the front of the border with a fantastic scent...as well as going to lift them, I've also taken cuttings, which has been brilliant...I'm actually hoping to attract some wayward Hummingbirds over to Scotland!!...🤣😂🤣🐦

    How do get your alyssum to be so bushy and short, pinch back? They are amazing!❤❤❤

      Honestly I don’t do anything. They are in a sunny spot and can take the heat. I keep them watered, but they do dry out slightly. They love it in this spot. I maybe fertilized them once all year with some granular fertilizer. Super easy to grow over here. Thankyou! I planting some with vinca this year. It’s gonna be a beautiful combo.

    Awesome info, lovely garden specially with sweet alyssum. I’m also in zone 6b and wondering is sweet alyssum is deer resistant plant? I’m dying to plant supertunia with sweet alyssum but wondering if with those deers crossing my side yard will it be worth it?

    • @FlowerFanatic
      @FlowerFanatic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The deer have never touched mine. So I would say yes. When deer are hungry enough they will eat most anything, so this is a good choice considering deer live in my yard during the winter and spring.
