Dabi is easily one of the most versatile, efficient, and frightening characters in the show and I feel like people don’t give him enough credit for that. The first time I saw Dabi, I thought he was related to Todoroki somehow because of his eyes, but then I brushed the idea off until he used fire, and then I knew he was definitely related to Todoroki lol Regardless, the reveal was amazing
Toya’s back must be heavy for carrying the burden of being the obligatory most interesting villain after Tomura had his entire character uprooted by All for One
I actually don't think Toya's thoughts about Stain and his ideology are inconsistent at all. I believe Toya full heartedly believes that heroes should be less like Endeavor was and more like All Might/Stain. But Toya isn't a hero, and he knows and is perfectly okay with that at this point in time. Therefore, the proper way to go about things as Stain preached doesn't apply to Toya because he's not a hero. But if his dad had been a real hero to him, maybe he could've been. But that Toya was killed long ago in heart and soul by the person who should'vesupported him the most. That's the real tragedy.
The Dabi reveal is a top 5 MHA episode/chapter for me. Right up there with (in no set order): 1. Deku vs Todoroki (Season 2) 2. All Might vs AFO (Season 3) 3. Deku vs Bakugo II (Season 3) 4. Tenko Shimura: Origin/Tomura Shigaraki: Origin (I decided to lump these two together as they are both techinally focused on Shigi)
I think the reveal that Toga vs Ochako is gonna end up one of the best parts of the story was a great plot twist as well. The use of Shigaraki vs Deku as a red herring was a bit strange, but it paid off in the end. #TogaVsOchakoSweep
This was just beyond words phenomenal and godly the this scene and adaptation was just amazing this twist was built up and has made Dabi my second favorite villain behind Shigaraki he's menacing and just amazing this scene is so iconic literally a scene worth rewatching all the time:)
Honestly I was spoiled that Dabi is Toya Todoroki, but it had me waiting for the reveal and it was absolutely amazing. Big props to the voice actor too.

I wish it was a bigger reveal to me (like it would’ve been if I went into it blind w/o manga spoilers) but sadly, despite how much I tried to avoid spoilers, I came across plenty of strong hints online that gave away his family connection. So when his reveal popped up I was moreso just thinking: “oh. Ok. I was wondering when that would come up.” Which kinda sucks. Sure I might’ve put it together on my own, but I was told so early on…
What made this twist work wasn't the twist itself but the context. It was guessed from the get-go that this guy had some connection to Shoto but that misses the point. At this point in the story with the Heroes validity constantly in question and Dabi's reveal along with his numerous crimes, the circumstances regarding his and his sibling's birth, and Endeavor being sold to the public as All Might's replacement is the final nail in the coffin as far as the public perception of Heroes are concerned.
4:13and um.... Yepp... That's the perfect description of Compress.. Don't spoil him yet, but I'd argue that he'a been the most utilised member after kurogiri.. with his ability compress things...
Dabi is my favorite villain boy. I love him, I know he did terrible things, but I still want to hug him, even if it kills me. My boy needs a hug! I was so excited about the official Dabi is Toya reveal, I was pretty down, because I don't like war arcs, but this was so hype.
My coworker spoiled Dabi's reveal literally a day before the episode released and said, "It's obvious can't you tell he's Endeavor's son Toya" I wish I could've been shocked when it happened but it was still an amazing episode!
The reveal being predictable definitely didn't ruin it for me at least, considering I've been in the "dabi is touya" camp for years, even when we had less information. I remember sharing a theory from a video I'd watched discussing how the flames in endeavor's hero costume were in similar places to touya's burns, which could show a connection between teh two with a professor I had in 2018 or 2019. So despite being a firm believer for years, I was still excited for the reveal, because it's more about the *how* than the *why*
This reveal was just incredible, the way we went from knowing nothing about dabi to them slamming off his motive and backstory in one episode it was brilliant. Also just the drama that dabis character had made it ten times better
and in the irony of it all, Dabi was only supposed to be alive for one month after being sort of reborn/rebuilt, as well as once he revealed himself, his entire intention after it, was to die. He got what he wanted and once it was said and done, he was too. Dabi is one of my favorites in the show because he reminds me of myself in small ways, holding grudges for years to come and devoting your entire life to making the person who wronged you suffer the same way they made you suffer
Videogames tend to do this type of plot twist too by letting players put together the pieces over installments, such as what Guilty Gear did involving Sol and Dizzy or what it looks like the Bayonetta games are doing with Madama Butterfly.
Coming from the very biased perspective of someone who comes from an abusive family, I can 100% understand Touya's desire to hurt Endeavor in the worst way imaginable before killing him. Of course, it doesn't justify anything Touya's done, except for outing Endeavor to the world as a child absusing, wife beating, piece of shit. Despite that, I kinda hope Touya does get to kill Endeavor before the end of mha. If it does play out that way though, I'm betting Touya will die almost immediately after he succeeds in killing Endeavor to prove true the saying 'When you begin a journey of revenge, start by digging 2 graves, one for your enemy and one for yourself.'
I would also want to mention that Dabi's meeting with Endeavor and Hawks after the High-End fight on season 5 was a red herring. It COULD'VE been the moment where it confirms Dabi is Touya, but then we were met by the knowledge that Dabi was working with Hawks at the time, making the audience overlook that large piece of foreshadowing and instead avert our attention to Hawks's "supposed" attachment to the League.
We kind of knew from the jump but it was still good. Look at him, he looks like an older, evil Shoto. He had elemental powers like the Toodoroki’s, his eyes are blue which only the Todoroki’s have in the show. Shoto had an older brother who “died”. It was all there but that doesn’t take away from the reveal.
As someone who hasn’t watched the anime or read the manga until recently (as in the recent chapters) and only knew of stuff from out of context clips or character research on wikis/forums, I assumed Dabi was Touya based on his power. I know blue flames are hotter flames but most of me was going “ice is blue, his fire is blue, he’s related to the ice fire spilt one”. So if that counts as a form of foreshadowing hell yeah
It’s ironic how right Stain was and how much Dabi proved that Stain was right with his message. Heroes started to retire once the crisis and the trust was crumbling.
I found this channel now and I want to say everything I know that can make mha better. (It's about the former videos). 1) All for one controlling tomura ruined it for sure. 2) for redeeming tomura and giving him hope, horikoshi made a mistake by killing his family and he should have gave him and his former family a meeting. If his family were somehow alive and tenko just ran away by accidentally destroying the fence and only killing the dog,it would work. That family meeting will be awkward and dumb, but it's a way better talk no jutsu than the hero that knows nothing form his past. 3) heroes stopping villains because they also had that trauma is a problem, because the problem won't go away. Shoto saying dabi being a villain is his own fault is funny, cause shoto couldn't be a villain if he wanted to. 4) The mha ending is important. If the hero society wins, there would be more abused and broken people just to get arrested because of life didn't gave them a choice. 5) the entire traitor reveal chapters were dumb. 6)anime adaptation doesn't help a lot.

@@Mr_AntiSocial It doesnt matter if its the point, if the point sucks. The reason why people love Tomura so much and are pissed off with how hes been completely sidelined is because he represented retribution on a society which repeatly beat down and ignored people like Tomura and the rest of the league. He was the punishment the world of mha deserved made flesh. By contrast Afo is just kinda the super villian king pin you can find in any saturday morning cartoon. Like if you personally like him fair enough ill admit i do get a chuckle out of him when hes roasting people, but thats kinda where what i like about him ends.
What I hate about the Dabi reveal is not the fact that he is Toya, because of course he is. It is the ramifications it has on the character arc of Endeavor. Even after all that has been revealed Horikoshi would still have us believe that Endeavor can be redeemed. He is a serial abuser, and a villain in the truest sense of the word. He probably is one of most evil characters in the show, second only to All For One. And still, somehow his wife, who he abused, is ready to forgive him and accept him. Why? Because he he regrets abusing women and children. Nah, I ain't buying that.
I dont think she truly forgave him tbh. It's more of, putting this issue aside so we can deal with the BIGGER issue; the villains. Personally I love Endeavour but before you attack me for it, just know everyone interpretates the Todoroki drama differently. Albiet sometimes terribly, still differently.
@@ninkepie3764 I don't particularly understand why it was necessary for the wife to forgive him, or putting anything aside for dealing with the villains. All Endeavour is good at is fighting, and his wife ain't helping with that. That being said, you and anyone else are free to like any fictional character, even bad ones. Askellad from Vinland Saga is probably my favourite character in anime, and he is a bastard. What I tried to say is that I am deeply unsatisfied with the direction Endeavour's arc is taking in the manga. I felt like he was everything wrong with the hero society, as pointed out by Stain, but I think he is getting off far too easy for the stuff he has done. But you might disagree. I am interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.
@@uddaloknag1751 I just feel like she probably felt it was more important for him to focus on protecting the country at that moment. Especially after more villians were roaming the streets and things where basically going terribly in Japan. But yeah, if you're interested, personally I understand the people who say they don't like Endeavours arc. I don't love it, but I like it. I always thought it was because I expect less from Endeavour than everyone else, but I'm not really sure. Yeah everyone says he's a monster and everything but one of the reasons I like his character so much is because he is trying to change, which is rare of people like him. He acknowledged his shittyness and doesn't want forgiveness but wants to make up for it. I understand why lots of people don't like him, but i at least think he deserves just a little bit of respect. I also see some people hold his past against him to criticise him, but then use villain's past to justify their actions, which is very... contradicting. I mean, I like some of the villains too, but I'm not going to act like their great people. Anyways. Aside from that, I love everything else about Endeavours character. I think he's a great hero, and I love his personality. In season 2 I hated him so much, but when he started to atone, that's when I started to like him. I do wish they did more with his character arc tho. Like, not just "I want to atone" and "just watch me". I wanted to actually see how he was planning to atone, and I really wanted to see more of his thought process, i wanted to see how he carried it out, and I wanted to see him actually facing bigger repercussions for his actions, and learning from them. I would've loved to see how his mindset and morals were probably conflicting and mixing into his actions. I got some af that, but not as much as I wanted to. I didn't hate or dislike Endeavours arc. I just feel like it could've been much better than it was. Regardless, I liked it because it at least gave me SOME insight into his thoughts and feelings. I do also think he got off rlly easy from this whole situation. I didn't realise it at first, but I definitely see it now. I would've loved to see more of the family after the Toya reveal. Sadly I didn't get much. Would've loved to know what they were thinking, their feelings, etc. I feel like we kinda got thrown into the last arc without exploring as much as we could, and not just with the Todoroki Family plot. So in a nutshell, I love Endeavour and his character, and I didnt hate his character arc, but it could've been done a lot better. Thanks for taking the time to read this, if you do.
@@uddaloknag1751 And also thank you for being one of the few people who haven't immediately jumped and insulted me for liking a character like Endeavour. I barely know you but I appreciate it.
@@ninkepie3764 To be fair I also liked the part that he understood his mistakes and tried to change. I guess it felt like atonement is coming really easy for him? He didn't have to work too hard for it, I feel. Realising one's own flaws is always the first step, but that alone does not entitle one to redemption. To be fair the manga is not over yet, and later events might change my views on the matter.
Come to think of it, why Endeavor doesn't cooperate with heroes with ice quirk? Or is fighting solely by themselves a trend at his time? It seems like heroes started forming groups after the villain organizations are getting stronger. But co-working with an ice hero is way easier to give birth to a perfect kid with both fire and ice quirks tbh...
since we first saw dabis power i new it was endevors son and then they start talking about how one of their brothers died hmm guess what i was thinking
Know whats amazing? I know a fire quirk villain probably was a rarity, but i didnt even think about who he may be connected to. When he got revealed i really was like 'oh shit..that was susposed to be obvious and i missed it!!" Meanwhile i thought that random ice villain from the fight with reDestro was somehow related to the Todoroki mom.
Dabi’s mysterious persona TO ME always made him seem like the least interesting character in the series, i didnt feel anything about him. Then he pulled that and he and now one of my favorite characters
Dabi reveal wasn't really surprising to me. Compared to Obito, Reiner and Bertholdt revealed. He has family issues and kills innocent people with no remorse compared to how Obito, Reiner and Bertholdt are characters who did become villains for a reason and had no choice because of how the world they live in works. Dabi has no goal but to take revenge and torment his family because he wasn't chosen as a child.
Community is nice and all cause of course, but I also sort of wish I could’ve let it play out and see the reveal for myself and enjoy at least somewhat of a surprise that the story was building up
So true, when a story is well written with correct foreshadowing Pretty Little Liars ruined it’s twist so bad. People guessed a lot and crafted answers that made sense, motives, proof and all of that was useless because it was a totally new person, we have never met
To debunked the Dabi is Toya theory and this scene here... Dabi is a bad guy and bad guys lie. I know that not the best argument, but it not like Dabi won't do something like that. And either if it true or false, it would get him the same results of destroying Endeavor's imagine, so Dabi being Toya still is a mystery. It be like Best Jeanist saying, “Well, I fought All for One." Even though that isn't lying, still hiding the fact that he got one-shot. Him saying that make him seem tough and powerful, even it isn't true. So Dabi lying to the public is a good chance. And debunking Dabi is Toya theory. (P.S this is a joke comment, so don't take it seriously. I know that Dabi is Toya and just joking around)
so predictability and foreshadowing although grouped together are separate things if there was nothing leading to the twist but you can still guess it that is predictable because it falls into tropes that can be boring if overused if there is something leading to it it is foreshadowing but bad criticism has led people to believe these are one in the same

Right up there with (in no set order):
1. Deku vs Todoroki (Season 2)
2. All Might vs AFO (Season 3)
3. Deku vs Bakugo II (Season 3)
This episode is definitely in my top 5 favorite MHA episodes.
What a coincidence! It's in my top 5 as well.
Definitely a favorite scene!
I don't get mad at spoilers so I knew who Dabi was and the "dance" existence, but still watching the episode hit me like a bus, so, so good.
Jason also sold the scene as dabi i loved his performance
I think the craziest thing about this twist was the fact it trended the day of the 2020 election🤣
This was just beyond words phenomenal and godly the this scene and adaptation was just amazing this twist was built up and has made Dabi my second favorite villain behind Shigaraki he's menacing and just amazing this scene is so iconic literally a scene worth rewatching all the time:)
This is less a "twist" and more of a "dramatic reveal".
Indeed. That's why no one says "Dabi's twist" or anything like that and just "Dabi's reveal"
Honestly I was spoiled that Dabi is Toya Todoroki, but it had me waiting for the reveal and it was absolutely amazing. Big props to the voice actor too.
4:12 No one attending his magic shows as a kid.
Quick correction at 8:10 - Stain never recognized shoto as a true hero it was only Deku and All Might who were stated to be recognized by Stain
not a correction. stain said shoto was worth keeping alive too. rewatch/reread
@@AsarathaHSYT being left a live and being recognized are different things no hate man it’s still a good video I just felt it was important to differentiate. Stain acknowledged Deku he said shoto was good friend. Deku is shown to be the very peak of wat the heroic ideals are shoto showed he is a hero but in this scene and panels stain never said or showed that he acknowledged shoto as a true hero. I am NOT saying u don’t know the material but i just felt it need to be clarified No hate only trying make it know. have a blessed one.
@@AsarathaHSYT I'm surprised that no one in the comments was mentioning how you were dissing Endeavor, Dabi and the episode 😂
Ok. I was wondering when that would come up.”
Which kinda sucks. Sure I might’ve put it together on my own, but I was told so early on…
And then after this amazing moment we get, "Blackwhip Froppy-style" 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Dabi would have been a great theater kid
This was sick and probably the best episode of my hero academia
Implying that Dabi was just a punching bag for heroes.
This was a really good video!
and in the irony of it all, Dabi was only supposed to be alive for one month after being sort of reborn/rebuilt, as well as once he revealed himself, his entire intention after it, was to die. He got what he wanted and once it was said and done, he was too. Dabi is one of my favorites in the show because he reminds me of myself in small ways, holding grudges for years to come and devoting your entire life to making the person who wronged you suffer the same way they made you suffer
Usually I can catch the twists coming up, but I totally missed this one. My jaw dropped.
Compress is just there for the fun of it man, I love that guy, best mha character imo
The fact this episode of the Dub came out on or near Christmas was incredible.
That was quite the reveal, and the quote from that I think I love the most is when dabi says to endeavor, “come dance with me in hell won’t you?!”
The Dabi pieces to his identity must have been a 10 piece puzzle.
Actually, it was a five piece puzzle, but we were missing a piece for four years!
I be on twitter alot so I already knew. But when I did my mha binge a few months ago that reveal episode was still AMAZING
I figured out Dabi was Endeavors son the first time he was introduced when he didnt give Shigaraki his real name
4:11 He may not have a big purpose, but I still like him :)
Dabi story is really carring this season...
This is very well explained.
This is my fav part in mha and i havent even watched it 🧿👄🧿
I found this channel now and I want to say everything I know that can make mha better.
How exactly all for one controlling Tomura ruins the whole show?
@@IGNACIORIGINALikr, it’s as if they think AFO is some selfless angel and act like the series hasn’t stated that AFO is a greedy, self centred bastard
AFOs plan was to use Shigirakis body for himself, he was never going to willingly give Shiggy his quirk and Let him use freeely, however he chose, he gave Shigiraki AFO cause he needed a new body, that body being Shigirakis
Thought it was obvious but some people aren’t smart
@@Mr_AntiSocial Exactly!!
@@uddaloknag1751
I just feel like she probably felt it was more important for him to focus on protecting the country at that moment.
@@uddaloknag1751
And also thank you for being one of the few people who haven't immediately jumped and insulted me for liking a character like Endeavour.
Dabi is a smart character
broo, ikr?! This was such a DAMN GOOD reveal bro
Ford’s reveal as Stan’s brother Gravity Falls is another example of good twists like Dabi’s reveal
Endeavour gets cancelled, the arc
The REAL plot-twist is still coming. 😅
The Dr. Dre in the background is goated.
...................Um, it's THE LAST JEDI that was the divisive "subverting expectations" movie, not The Force Awakens.
I never watched either of them my bad
They already had the red herring with bakugo n the second so it’s good that one wasn’t left out but wasn’t so blatant
I literally predicted Dabi being related to Shoto in some way back in like Season 3.
i really wanted to see dabi’s prominence burn that shit looked like it was bouta be sooo mean. bro
I think you might be referring to last jedi, not force awakens
I recognise that silent hill music
felt my toes curl when i watched it
4:12 thanks for not revealing it yet m8
since we first saw dabis power i new it was endevors son and then they start talking about how one of their brothers died hmm guess what i was thinking
Is it me or does Pornography by Travis Scott suit Dabi? I was listening to the song whilst staring at a picture of Dabi.
No flame in the human psyche burns hotter than Hatred
Dabi reveal wasn't really surprising to me. Compared to Obito, Reiner and Bertholdt revealed. He has family issues and kills innocent people with no remorse compared to how Obito, Reiner and Bertholdt are characters who did become villains for a reason and had no choice because of how the world they live in works. Dabi has no goal but to take revenge and torment his family because he wasn't chosen as a child.
nah, it was super on the nose already
Community is nice and all cause of course, but I also sort of wish I could’ve let it play out and see the reveal for myself and enjoy at least somewhat of a surprise that the story was building up
So true, when a story is well written with correct foreshadowing
Pretty Little Liars ruined it’s twist so bad.
Oh thank god it’s satire I was about to lose my mind on you
unrelated but Toya is one letter away from being soy sauce
(soy sauce in Filipino is toyo)
I'll be honest... I never saw Dabi's reveal coming
so predictability and foreshadowing although grouped together are separate things if there was nothing leading to the twist but you can still guess it that is predictable because it falls into tropes that can be boring if overused if there is something leading to it it is foreshadowing but bad criticism has led people to believe these are one in the same
Sadly, i was spoiled for this
This isn't really a reveal I kinda already knew even without reading the manga
Nice
I wish they made a series from dabis pov 😶
