Just ordered one for August delivery, down the rabbit hole, as they say. I do ambient guitar and have been wanting one of these for so long and finally put my money where my music is. Thanks Rhett !
I find it hard to judge stuff here, because everything Rhett plays sounds awesome! This feels like a real "music writers" pedal to me if that makes sense. I feel like you won't find it on many average guitarists pedalboards, but for people writing their own music it looks like an amazing tool.
Rhett, for ambient guitar would you use this to replace your Timeline or your Big Sky? Or does it complement both? I’m an ancient blues rocker and want to get into the dream pop to ambient post rock tones with my board. I realize for classic rock I just fuzz, treble booster and univibe with no board. I have a Pedaltrain 2 to fill for more ambient styles and I plan to go wet, dry, wet since I have all the stuff 🤗
beautiful sounds, Rhett you should try the Helix effect OctoReverb, Flitch delay & Euclidean delay - routing the Legacy effect OctoReverb into the Glitch delay and a parallel path with the Euclidean delay and use your expression pedal to adjust several parameters on all three. You'll looove it \m/

For an effect that bombed in the market (partially because it works best against a Rhythm-synced midi signal), try the Boss SL-20 slicer. Very cool. I love pedals like this - for inspiration as well as having to play to the pedal's feedback, and the depth and endless range of options and sounds. These are up my alley, and I tend to categorize them as 'functional weird' - the oddball that's useful, and pulls you out of your box. The con I think of with pedals like this (having not really looked at it in depth or read the manuals for full capability) is trying to get the same sound twice, or how to document and store it easily. That's not always a bad thing, though - for improv as well as "I'll never play the same song twice with this" it creates an interesting performance art appeal. I'm motivated to learn more about it.
Hi Rhett. Very interesting pedal. By the way, what is the keyboard that you are playing? Would like to know the brand and model please. Good job, keep it up.
I ordered mine after seeing this video (now my favorite of your reviews). This is hands down my favorite pedal on my board right now. While there are others I use more often, this one is so amazingly versatile that it will take me months to learn and a lifetime to master. But the effects in the meantime are awesome even right out of the box.
That device is so awesome... but also way above my pay grade in terms of skill playing guitar. My biggest takeaway is that I lust for the sparkly double cutaway with P90s.
Rhette I love watching you vids and would like to be the guitar player you are. Do you like the Microcosm over the Night sky pedal? Awesome tone shaping.
Besides OD, delay and sometimes reverb, NOTHING translates into live playing. this is a songwriting tool. it's applicable in a live setting if you wrote a song with it. it's HIGHLY applicable writing, jamming and exploring.
I can see dialing down and saving a handful of some of the more dialed back, pulled in decay, less loopy, tempo tap patches for live gigs. Gotta highly edit w/ a pedal like this one in a live setting, imho. But then people tell me I'm in a jam band so...lol. Buying one fo sho. This and the Timeline together? Epic.
in "new math" the number of options for that device is approximately one googol (ten to the 100th power) - larger than the number of elementary particles in the known universe... just sayin'...
This is a super cool pedal and I really enjoyed listening to it -- thanks for sharing! Glad you are transparent about receiving the pedal at no cost from Hologram. You share that detail pretty early, but I really appreciate when content creators make that info apparent from the very beginning of their videos.
Well...you see...as they are free for him, he's not exactly thinking like most who have to shell out their own hard earned. He may like it for fun or studio perhaps to use occasionally, but most can't afford to buy (i assume) an expensive pedal just for kicks.
I also bought the decco after watching his review of the pedal (which is friggin great BTW) - but this one I'll have to pass on. This is a bit out of my wheelhouse, even though I do like ambient type stuff. Maybe I'm just an old "fuddy-duddy". LOL
@@bpittman440 I kinda like this myself...no issues there, just it's usability in a non studio setting is arguable. But, I do think Rhett was wrong to say at the start he wasn't paid to do a review of this or words to that effect. He was given it for free and as such a banner at least should have appeared saying it was a paid promotion. I have no idea what this costs (assume not cheap), haven't looked it up. However, perhaps had he'd of bought this himself the video may have turned out somewhat differently. On that sense I think it was rather misleading (unfortunately). Nonetheless, kudos to the manufacturers for designing something rather different. After all it's rather boring seeing TH-camr's just rehash the same old pedals that are little more than tweaks or reincarnations of pedals decades old. 😃
@@nostro1001 But Rhett says in the video he paid for it himself!! And it's not a pedal "for kicks"...the thing will turn whatever absolute shit you have on hand into ambrosia. It doesn't matter what you feed it...ambrosia comes out the other side. I figure everyone will have one of these. It's like that pedal you always heard in your GAS of "If I buy this pedal, my sound will be so much better"...so you buy the pedal and nothing really changes. Well, not so with the Microcosm! A device actually does what it claims for a change...lol.
Enjoyed this. Like many others, I was a purist and eschewed Synths, and now love them and into (again) psychedelia and interested in the Korg Wavestate and Guitar Synths. No Limits. Yes, I love it. Thank You R.S. Happy Trails )))).
Neato stuff coming soon, Rhett. I'll have my Two Rock and SVH20, Marshall coming soon. Guitars are so much fun! The 2 Rock is a Gainmaster 35, dual 6L6. Can't believe how much headroom it has! It's like a 50W version of a Dumble ODS.
So how does it compare to the Eventide H9 Max? Daniel Fisher was reviewing his "pedal board" in another video and he had some rather ethereal music coming out of the H9. Mind you he had an EHX Super Ego+ and a Source Audio Nemesis on both sides of it, but will the Microcosm replace all three?
I use this pedal on an Aerophone 3 wind synth. I frequently find myself sitting in the dark because the sun went down and I didn't notice. A remote light switch fixed that 'problem'.
Not kissing ass or giving you a “pat on the head”, but I think the best thing about your videos has been watching your growth as an artist. I’m enough of a musician to recognize the value of hard work when combined with talent, and I’ve had a few occasions where I got to be in a little over my head, but pulled it off anyway. Those times when you’re just buzzing after a no-pay (but totally awesome) gig, and realize that yes, you CAN do that. I hope to see you still at it 30 years from now, and 80 some year old me will remember wondering who that young guy was on Rick’s channel...😏
Hologram should introduce a three-part package: 1) the pedal, 2) an intuitive desktop studio to mimic, tweak and most importantly, capture your user settings, and finally 3) a footswitch with LED-display banks (with up and down, user-defined letters inside the banks...think Boss GT-100). The footswitch should be more than a button-pressing, roadside sobriety test. People pay thousands for the 1965 Doo Dad from Vox, a $500 complete package from Hologram should be within most studio artist's reach. I'll get a used one when the price comes down. Until then, Verbzilla and Space Echo.
That was amazing, this thing is capable of harmonizing your playing on a higher level. But I have a doubt and a question:¿do I have to share royalties with Hologram Electronics in case I record my music using that pedal and I achieve a hit in the charts?
Sounds killer!
Does this not remind you of Daniel Lanois , Rick? At least on some level.

I saw Animal collective back in 2009, they did a lot turning knobs. I like their records but like you said, it doesn't translate.
Besides OD, delay and sometimes reverb, NOTHING translates into live playing. this is a songwriting tool. it's applicable in a live setting if you wrote a song with it. it's HIGHLY applicable writing, jamming and exploring.
Basically what I thought too. It’s nice, but I don’t think I’d use it enough to justify it.
@@Dungeon_of_Regret that list is waayyyyy too short lol
I can see dialing down and saving a handful of some of the more dialed back, pulled in decay, less loopy, tempo tap patches for live gigs. Gotta highly edit w/ a pedal like this one in a live setting, imho. But then people tell me I'm in a jam band so...lol. Buying one fo sho. This and the Timeline together? Epic.
That thing is incredible! Cool playing man.
I did the math. It's exactly one shit load of options on that selection. Metric shit load, that us. Hope it helped.
I did the math and it was closer to a metric shit tonne...
in "new math" the number of options for that device is approximately one googol (ten to the 100th power) - larger than the number of elementary particles in the known universe... just sayin'...
This is a super cool pedal and I really enjoyed listening to it -- thanks for sharing!
Glad you are transparent about receiving the pedal at no cost from Hologram. You share that detail pretty early, but I really appreciate when content creators make that info apparent from the very beginning of their videos.
I wanted to get this thing since I saw it on that Spaceship guy’s channel. It’s way more than just a guitar pedal
I can’t wait for mine to come in the mail! This pedal is nuts and it seems like so much fun to play with
Grrrrr!!! You said that about the Deco! And I bought that! I can’t afford this. Damn you, Rhett...damn you.
@@shitmandood Oh...I haven't listened twice...I thought he said toward the start he was given it. Hmmmm...my mistake obviously. Thanks. 😎
Trying to decide between this and the Red Panda V2 or... keeping both. Have you tried the Red Panda?
Earliest I ever been. Amazing video already my man!
Agree I’m 2 years behind and is a fav chords of ambient tones
So how does it compare to the Eventide H9 Max? Daniel Fisher was reviewing his "pedal board" in another video and he had some rather ethereal music coming out of the H9. Mind you he had an EHX Super Ego+ and a Source Audio Nemesis on both sides of it, but will the Microcosm replace all three?
Awesome! Just order mine for August batch.
Hey Rhett - what pups do you have in the 335 here? I really love the tones you were getting here.
Out of my wheelhouse, but I loved watching this video, and listening to the cool tones you made! :)
Looks like you are so excited you haven't slept in days!! Great video Rhett!!
Sounds awesome dude!!! We just got one of these...and holy crap this pedal is awesome!
Looking forward to hear what you find from this pedal in the next instalment...
Sounds like they rolled a POG, Strymon Big Sky, and a DL4 into one. Looks super fun and I’m sure it does a whole lot more. Great video Rhett!
Wow! Thanks for demonstrating!
