I too am still planting bulbs here in 7a. It is reassuring to see you doing the same. The tomato tragedy is a lesson for the ages. I have a similar latch on my chicken house that I must be mindful of. Love spending my tea time with you!
I am in 7a as well. I bought my bulbs in early fall and then it was a really warm fall and after that my asthma started to flare really badly. After multiple trips to urgent care and the ER I am hoping that they finally have me on the right meds and I can finally start planting bulbs. It will probably be a cold project.😂
Crocus are a favorite. They used to grow in an abandoned farm near our house. Every spring, as a child, I would wander out there to see the crocus in bloom. Happy times!

Still no table for your patio? With the greenhouse so warm and cozy, no wonder the kitties love to hang out in there. I love all the fresh greenery, berries and rose hips from the wholesaler! How awesome to have all of that on hand to use for arrangements and decorating. At the flower shop, we keep fresh product like that in a 42° cooler to help them last longer. Unless you are going to use them up quickly, you may want to move them to the root cellar to increase longevity, if there is room. 😉

I live in the UK so it rarely gets to freezing where I am, but I always go out last thing and say "goodnight" to everything and make sure everything it shut up, fleece on plants etc. It's a lovely routine as well as ensuring peace of mind!!

Good morning: You probably already know about this, but we used a high/low temperature alarm that sounds in the house (or there is probably an alarm for your phone) that alerted us to extremely high or low temperatures ( you can set the parameters) in the building. In our case it was for commercial chicken production, but the alarms are widely available. Sorry for your plant loss.

I recently got a "Govee Wi-Fi Digital Thermometer Hygrometer" set, which has remote temperature sensors you can place in different places and then you can monitor on your phone through their app and even set threshhold alarms. The set of three remote sensors is ~$60. I got the set of 6 remote thermometers for $114. I put sensors in various rooms in my outbuilding so that I know if the heating isn't working. I recently put one in the freezer to discover that it was not working properly and was thankfully able to SAVE THE ICE CREAM!! WHEW :) I highly recommend a remote temperature monitor - the peace of mind is well worth the investment. I love that you are still planting! It inspired me to grab some clearance bulbs on a warm day we had last week and put them in. Ensuring I have early season blooms is one tactic I use to tackle seasonal depression. When they come up, they give me hope that our Wisconsin winter won't really last FOREVER!

I had the same thing happen where my bulbs came up first in the shade and then in the sun. Took me a minute to realize it was because of the heat the house gives off. Was fun to see such an obvious visual of why you can get away planting a zone higher in some places that are sunny close to the house.
You could put grow lights on your grass 24/7 and it’ll grow tons faster. Grass doesn’t need any dark time to grow. Even if you did “summer hours” daylight with your grow lights everything out there would grow awesome. Thank you for another calm, wonderful video. Your bird watching video is amazing!

Interestingly in Australia our Amaryllis are in the ground and in the middle of their flowering.. We leave them in the ground year after year. Oh I SO want some bird cage planters to do a lovely living succulent arrangement.

Have you tried planting IN your chicken run? Buddleia, rosemary, feijoa, dwarf citrus, dwarf plums, dwarf mulberry, bay tree, camellia, English lavender, salvia leucantha (to name some of the plants that do well in a chicken run) are all doing amazing in my coop and giving my chickens a bit of a forest-like habitat. I'm also in Australia so what does well here may not do well there.

L have to do it that way all the time.. But l enjoy doing it that way. As l don't like using many power tools. O bet there are people out there that are like me to. Tip #2 - always remember to incorporate treats inside the soil before plant a cat. This may help with issues of a leaping cat.
