- The latest DJI firmware update has added “Waypoints” to the Mavic 3 & Mavic 3 classic. Waypoints is an intelligent flight mode that allows the drone to automatically fly a pre-planned route and do actions such as start recording, focus on a point of interest, take a photo and more. In this beginners guide we will look at the two ways to create an automated flight path using both maps and the drone in waypoints mode. We will also look at what happens if the Mavic 3 encounters an obstacle during a Waypoint mission. Do you happen to know if you can use this feature and turn off the RTH feature? I would like to use a feature like this without the drone trying to RTH, simply stop and hover, so you can walk to it and collect it once the mission is complete.
Haha, lesson to self, watch the entire video, clicked play and the options of deselecting RTH and stop and hover came up 🙂
Another question though, having watched to the end of the clip 🙂 what is the minimum flight speed for waypoint missions? Looks like you had the collision course mission set on 0.7m/s, or maybe the drone had already started slowing by the time you trimmed the clip for your video? So is it possible to set speed at 0.1m/s and is that the lowest setting?

Great job Matt, with a cogent description of WayPoints set up. I used it with the Mavic 2 Zoom & found it to be a very powerful & useful cinematographic video tool.
Wow, some powerful stuff. It keeps amazing me at the great features that DJI keeps adding. Love my new M3Classic! Gonna have to give this a try. I want to fly along a route, doing time lapse during the day then recreate that same flight during sunset then edit them together for that amazing transition from day to night reel! Great video!

@@TheDroneCreative Thank YOU for being very nice and thorough also during any of the other automatic modes, does it automatically detect objects as well? I don't know what they're called I'm still new, returning my Air 2s today and getting the Mavic 3 Classic, mainly for the waypoints, wanting to document my new home build but doing a fly around ever week and putting a timelapse together at the end.
I have seen 3rd party apps with these similar capabilities but to have it all incorporated into the DJI controller is super. Nice video. Very detailed. Do you think they would add this to the Mini 3 Pro?
They must ! can't be that hard... It's good that the Patchnotes read "currently" only available for the Magic 3 Family.

Thanks for this. Very clear explanation. I will try this today. Actually the second method is more appropriate for places where the satellite imagery doesn't allow for details such in a wooded area or with lots of buildings or structures of different heights and the land itself is full of ravines etc. Again many thanks.
This reminds me of what you were able to do with Parrot Bebop drones... for an additional 30 dollars to unlock! I'm so happy seeing this!

First Mavic 3 waypoint mission flown today, followed Matthew’s instructions and set it up at home as I knew the flight area well, then tweaked a couple of things when I got to site. I’d definitely say it’s a good idea to at least practice at home so you know what you’re doing when you get to the site.
How did you find the waypoints mode altogether? I thought it was very impressive the first time I tried it!
@@TheDroneCreative I thought it was really intuitive, more so than what used to be on the Phantom4, I forget what that was called. It’s definitely something I’ll use more of. I used it yesterday as a test for both waypoints but also running the Cine in ProRes, so I’ve just need to get to grips editing ProRes and correct colour grading it in Final Cut now.

I wonder if there is the possibility to set up a mission using fix overlap perventance among continuous photos taken on consecutively way points (as for example we have in “Pix4d”) so to make orthophoto of a place of interest ?
Sure would like to see a desktop version of this for planning like Litchi! Then you can run a virtual mission on Google earth and preplan your mission. Or just do the right thing and release the SDK for Mavic 3!

I bought the mavic 3 pro and sold my mavic air2s not knowing they have not released sdk and i need to do some photogrammetry. Any ideas?

I have the Mavic 3 Cine and it would be great to get a similar setup. Would you use the same settings? Mind you, isn’t there more settings? It is now enabled, I’ve just bought it, but am unable to download it for some reason! Hopefully I’ll get this resolved soon, no network connection between my iPhone with the Dji fly app open and the RC controller. It’ll be a great addition to the versatility of the drone, once I get it uploaded!
HI, thanks for making such informative tutorials and videos. Is there a way to use the Waypoints feature on the Mini 3 Pro? I know it is designed for video, and it isn't super accurate but I was wondering if you set it up some way to fly a route and to stop, take a photo and then move on to the next point, do the same etc and then return to the set spot? Reason for asking is to be able to run the same route at different times / seasons etc to then overlay images (likely with a bit of work to match them well in PS) and show the same image in different slices e.g. day to night. would appreciate your thoughts.
Really excellent video. I have a friend in Northern Ireland who has a Mavic 3 and he will be delighted with this. I really hope that DJI make this available on the Mini 3 Pro very soon so that I can make use of the feature also; it will be so useful.

Great video! Quick question, if you pause the mission, can you stop recording and take pictures then when you unpause will the mission continue?
Great video - have just got my Mavic 3 Pro. Can't wait to use this feature, which I had on my Inspire 2. But, can I fly the track by varying speed manually, or does it always have to be determined when setting waypoints? Also, is this the only way to have the camera look slightly to the side whilst flying foreward? With the Inspire, I just turn the gimbal, but how do you do it when the camera pan is fixed?

Fantastic stuff! The old Phantoms used to have this feature, and I used to use it all the time for slow, smooth and stable shots. I didn't spot this detail in the video, so I was wondering if you know what the maximum distance between waypoints is?

So in theory this could be used to take photo pointing straight down and then stitched together into one photo then same flight path again as a building is built so great for really accurate progress shots yes? Fantastic video, really good work here!

1 question...for those of us without the DJI RC (with screen), but have the classic controller that came with the Mavic 3, I don't think we have a C1 button on the back. So how would we set waypoints from the drone position without the C1 button?
I’ve done a ton of waypoint flights but I’m not seeing some of the options you showed in this video and I didn’t know you could set up the waypoints in advance when you aren’t at the location. I fly both the DJI Air 2S and the Mavic 3 Pro. I’m going to have to dive deeper into the menus now.
