Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Trippyfarmer in having your 2nd healthy baby boy.
Andy, your area will be fortunate enough in receiving enough timely precipitation this growing season for another bin busting season.

When you put the boom back together. Put antisieze on the the pin. It will prevent the steel pin and aluminum bracket from sticking together

Those are snap ring pliers! Man I was really worried about Marty in the last few videos, but he's back in red now so I know he's on the mend. Praying for rain for you folks, best wishes!

The worst case scenario for the helicopter tree trimmer would be a sudden hard wind & cutting the wire. Holy cow, this might be the next show on the Discovery channel after Deadliest Catch.

You are starting to remind me of Andrew Camarata. Bigger hammer and blow torch solve most problems. :). Love your videos and learning that being a farmer is about being “Jack of all Trades” and Master of many specialties. I’m impressed. This coming from a guy that lives in Down East Maine and drives a desk for a living. :)

What’s with that black prime mover that sits??
Dry seasons is why we used PROPER deep rippers.

Yea I think it’s probably the best idea to replace that part instead of welding it. That part takes alot of constant weight and bouncing on that area.

The other Main reason for using antifreeze "and additives' is that they prevent scaling and rust and help to prevent cavitation. using just water can cause cavitation to create holes in the piston liners.

You should get the agco rogator dealership in your area to do a demo spraying fungicides on your corn They are even taller then The Hagie. It’s around 6 foot 3 clearance Not saying you should trade yours off. You just got it but it’s good to try other stuff out

You can get annual truck safety test instead of the 6 months ones, the price is the same as 2-6 month, just saves you time and a trip to the safety lane.

The parts were most likely stuck together from galling. It usually happens most between aluminum and stainless. Dry friction creates little micro peaks and valleys in the surface that will collectively lock the parts together as strong as if they were one. It’s usually an all or nothing thing. If it happens you’re not getting it out. A little grease will prevent it. The other one probably had a bit on it, thus no locking.

I have friends that can run broke equipment for years and get away with it . I always want to fix things if I see something broke but most generally I have generally avoided the major disasters . I can tell you a trick I learned from a guy on pins. Heat it up then sray wd 40 or a rust lube. You can watch it pull the liquid in between the 2 metals. You can watch the rust run out the bottom . Hope that helps in the future

The entire boom fell off of a custom operators Hagie in the middle of a corn field while applying fungi over the weekend. I imagine it was not an enjoyable fix.

A steel pin in aluminum will certainly lead to what is called “Dissimilar Metal Corrosion”. What happen is in a corrosive environment such as yours one of the metals will transfer material to the other metal basically welding themselves together. There should be a grease fitting in that tube which would help with that.
