This makes no sense. How can you check if the level of fluid is ok with a stick that is designed to measure the engine oil? It just tells you there is fluid in there, the level indicators are not designed for the transmission fluid.
So you're able to compress the tab and remove the cap without taking the battery/housing out? I have a 2012 and it seems like i'm going to have to remove the battery entirely.
The dipstick actually goes all the way in.. however..if it stops halfway.. You can get an accurate reading for a feel of where the oil level is supposed to be
You can't actaully tell how full / low the trans fluid is doing this method. The only way you could do something like this is if you have a reference to go by, which you don't in this case. I'm not bashing the OP but this doesn't tell you anything other than there is fluid in the trans, which you could stick anything into the check hole and find that out (and I wouldn't use the oil dipstick even though you cleaned it off, because if it goes too far into the transmission you could start hitting things that might be moving). One other tip (not sure if you did this or not) but when you check trans fluid, you're supposed to run it through all the gears first (let them fill up) and then put it into park and check.
Of course, I checked a known good transmission to check if that was the right level, otherwise I wouldn’t made this video also all transmission need to be warm/hot to proper check oil level

Exactly, as is with most CVTs. Do not follow what he's doing. You'll either under-fill or overfill your CVT or eff it up. The drain plug needs to be out with the engine running and the temp is 104F when checked. If no fluid is coming out, you fill until starts to come out and slows to a trickle and then install the drain plug. They have an overflow tube underneath the drain plug, that's why the fluid in the CVT does not drain all the way out.
I used a vacuum pump from harbor freight to remove most of the fluid and replaced it back with the exact amount of fluid. Oh yeah a huge tip: use the fluid from the dealership don't use off brand fluid.

I couldn't get the cap off from the fill tube so I removed the fill tube using a ten mm wrench. Using a long skinny funnel added two quarts of Valvoline CVT trans fluid.
Also, how do you know that the level in at the proper marks if the marks on engine dipstick are for the engine oil level only. I think that you are sending people in the wrong direction leading to transmission failure.

Now day trans oil are lifetime, if you change it you may run the risk of transmission failure, these transmission if they are working ok, don’t mess with it

The first time I inserted the dipstick it went all the way up to the handle. It must have curled up by then. So I reinserted the dipstick lightly until the first stop. This is probably where yours is placed at.
Your too far up and to the left. Look at this video closer and youll find it. Its not very easy to see but it close to the left front of the batter plate. Kinda underneath. Your probably looking at that rubber grommet to the left of that plate. All directions refering from standing in front of the car
Thanks for your comment, I would recommend you to removed the battery to get more access, the cap have a little tab on the side that you have to push to remirase from the tube, that tab keep the cap in place.

@@sp11k3y The CVT transmission is not making that noise. These cars are woefully inadequate 1.5 litre four cylinder engines. They all sound like that. Don't worry about it.
Do you have an OBD reader if not get a blue driver and do a scan. You can also go to your local auto store or dealership and have a scan done. If they tell you that you have a code P0705 it is more than likely one of two causes your taillights or proximity range sensor on the transmission. But the first thing you should do before throwing parts is get a diagnosis and don't throw parts at it.

NO IT IS NOT ! Check your owners manual for each specific one. Do Not Mix engine oil with transmission fluid, or transmission fluid with engine oil ! You will DESTROY the engine or tranny if you mix or use the wrong one. It is STRONGLY recommended that you only use Nissan transmission fluid in the CVT transmissions. It changes depending on the year of the vehicle ! A 2012 uses a different fluid than 2013 on up. Check your manual ! Also, the way he is showing this does not tell you if the CVT fluid level is correct or not, it only shows you there is some fluid in the transmission.

How do you know what level the transmission fluid is supposed to be at on the oil dipstick? The depth indicators on the oil dipstick are designed for testing only the oil level.
Well that sounds good, but aside from being able to see how clean the fluid is, or if any fluid is in the transmission, this method is next to useless. This fluid expands and contracts depending on temperature. So when you did this what temp was the vehicle at? Well if the next person uses this "fill level" as their reference point, unless the vehicle they are servicing is at nearly the exact same temp, they will be either underfilling or overfilling. The only real correct way to check it is to get the car to 105-110 degrees and as you open the transmission drain plug, the excess fluid will come out due to the design of this type of drain plug. This of course is usually done when someone drains it and refills it. This method in this video would have worked if an approximate temperature was given, assuming that car being used was filled to the proper level.
chewpaeng12 to drain all u have to do is removed the drain plug in the bottom, just like when u changing ur engine oil, but transmission have lifetime oil meaning u not suppose to flush or change oil for the good of the transmission.
My Versa won’t accelerate when I floor it and it take forever and even in idle “Drive” it goes in reverse on a hill. Replaced the filter and it has super slow acceleration... thinking bad gas???
Maria Peralta Your vehicle has a CVT transmission, they’re very bad. The transmission is what gives power to your wheels and makes your car push the wheels and drive when you switch to D and R. Try taking to a local transmission shop first and ask for a “diagnostic price” and see how much they’ll charge just to see what’s wrong with it before you do anything to it.

It's a bitch, I saw one where the guy used a flat head but getting your hand in there to release it is retarded.
I pulled mine off with channel locks and brokenthe clip, so now it's only secured by the o ring 😅
What about the length of the dip stick. How do you even know that the length of the oil dip stick is exactly what you need to measure the oil level.

That's not a very calculative way to determine the length. I can Shove in anything and wait until it stops to go in.

@@zdenanrehhelber Not all transmissions. On Hondas you have to check the transmission fluid when engine is off. Also, how do you know that the level in at the proper marks if the marks on engine dipstick are for the engine oil only.

NO IT IS NOT ! Check your owners manual for each specific one. Do Not Mix engine oil with transmission fluid, or transmission fluid with engine oil ! You will DESTROY the engine or tranny if you mix or use the wrong one. It is STRONGLY recommended that you only use Nissan transmission fluid in the CVT transmissions. It changes depending on the year of the vehicle ! A 2012 uses a different fluid than 2013 on up. Check your manual !
Also, the way he is showing this does not tell you if the CVT fluid level is correct or not, it only shows you there is some fluid in the transmission.

How do you know what level the transmission fluid is supposed to be at on the oil dipstick? The depth indicators on the oil dipstick are designed for testing only the oil level.
I compared with a known good one, that’s how I come out with the level

Well that sounds good, but aside from being able to see how clean the fluid is, or if any fluid is in the transmission, this method is next to useless. This fluid expands and contracts depending on temperature. So when you did this what temp was the vehicle at? Well if the next person uses this "fill level" as their reference point, unless the vehicle they are servicing is at nearly the exact same temp, they will be either underfilling or overfilling. The only real correct way to check it is to get the car to 105-110 degrees and as you open the transmission drain plug, the excess fluid will come out due to the design of this type of drain plug. This of course is usually done when someone drains it and refills it. This method in this video would have worked if an approximate temperature was given, assuming that car being used was filled to the proper level.
Getting the cap off the fill hole is even a challenge.. F these cars..

chewpaeng12 to drain all u have to do is removed the drain plug in the bottom, just like when u changing ur engine oil, but transmission have lifetime oil meaning u not suppose to flush or change oil for the good of the transmission.

My Versa won’t accelerate when I floor it and it take forever and even in idle “Drive” it goes in reverse on a hill. Replaced the filter and it has super slow acceleration... thinking bad gas???
Maria Peralta Your vehicle has a CVT transmission, they’re very bad. The transmission is what gives power to your wheels and makes your car push the wheels and drive when you switch to D and R. Try taking to a local transmission shop first and ask for a “diagnostic price” and see how much they’ll charge just to see what’s wrong with it before you do anything to it.

Question tech I have a little problem with shifting sometime and I tried to pull that thing off to check the transmission fluid but it's hard to take it and do I have to remove that windshield wiper thing I have 2013 Nissan versa so I can have more grip to pull it or what you think
you have a problem shifting because its a cvt... usually keeping it between 2 and 3 rpm makes it happen alot less
its also slow to accelerate so dont give more gas, it will get there
how do you know that bump on the oil dipstick is the correct level for the tranny fluid. AND, how far down did the dipstick go?
That’s easy, I checked a know good vehicle, and how fat? Well until reach the bottom, it won’t go further in it has a stop

CVT transmissions suck and why the hell is the place to check down there instead of one top like most cars before.
Because you don't check you change the fluid every 40K to 60K miles with the OEM fluid. And I highly recommend using a fluid extractor pump.
