The lesson is: You have to work the land and have faith in it. As you work it, its strength grows. It becomes more productive. There are life lessons there.

How relieved y'all must be to have your garden planted & now are ready for the rewards of it. I know that Granny really appreciated you planting her garden also. Y'all work so hard for not only yourselves but for others as well. It's so heartwarming to see families like yours doing the right things in life. God bless you all & prayers for Miss Cindy today & into the night. Hugs!

I love sitting with y'all in the backyard, listening as you chat. Thanks for having us! I laughed so hard watching Corie eat her melted popsicle! Matt is quite funny. I'm still praying for Miss Cindy, wondering how she is. I can easily picture Granny 'helping' move the table because my mom would have done the same thing.

I think I remember reading a book that talked about "preacher beans." They were called that because they were able to cook up quickly when the preacher showed up for dinner. Love watching you plant out your garden! Everything is so pretty, green, and lush in the hills of Appalachia.

There are little pearls in every video you all put out. My favorite here was Tipper telling Corie about the pumpkins. If you dont plant any, then its guaranteed youre not gonna grow any! ❤
As far as Little Debbie goes, it's the Banana Twins for me!
Corie - dates stuffed with cream cheese and drizzled with honey. Delicious!

Been thinking about cooking blackeyed peas, then I but some in water over night- about a doz. put them in little cups of dirt, their growing fine. now to plant then in my chair garden. I have a good size tree branch with arms which I'll put in the middle of the container for the beans to grow up on. Now I got cow peas on my mind. Sure enjoyed our visit. God Bless. Speckled butter beans. I cant help but think of my grandmother, us picking vegetables from their garden and eating many a meal as a kid from their kitchen table and the big built in window fan blowing, before ac. My tiny garden is doing well. It’s such an accomplishment when you see your first blooms and buds. I know your garden will be beautiful and abundant. Have a good week!

I bet ya'll are all bundled up today as it's cold in NC. " We're still going to eat them but they have to go through the chickens first ".... I love that you said that. I can hear Matt's mallet hitting the rocks as he hoes but the soil looks really good. I can taste that squash for sure. I like it in a cheese casserole. I can see you thinking Tipper as you visualize how big things will grow in the spaces where they will go. I can do that too. I'm just tickled pink for ya'll. Bravo sweet family. I'm proud of ya'll.

Purell hand sanitizer also removes permanent marker. It is a gel form of ethyl alcohol. It doesn't evaporate as fast as rubbing alcohol. It also smells better and doesn't dry the oils out of you skin as bad.

I just found your channel a week ago, and I'm hooked! What a lovely place to live and what a lovely family you've got! We were blessed to live in SW Virginia for a few years. I am from South Dakota, but when I stepped on Virginia soil for the first time, I was in love with the south and later it’s people. Here's a recipe for Fancy Beans on Toast for an easy mid-late summer meal.
Pan fry some bacon until crispy then remove from the skillet. Add some butter to the bacon fat and saute a sliced leek and a couple chopped garlic cloves. In a another pan, blanch some broad beans, lima beans, sweet peas, and pearl onions then strain well and add to the skillet with the leek and garlic and toss the bacon back in. Grill or toast some sourdough and top with the fancy beans, salt & pepper. Drizzle with olive oil and top with some shards of parmesan cheese. Sometimes I add some halved cherry tomatoes and a splash of vinegar. Delish!

We never had much of a garden in WV when I was growing up. My Mother worker full time as did my Dad. So we always had a few tomato plants &!a number of rows of Silver ?Queen corn , I was the water girl. BUT all y’all have shown me that putting in a garden is HARD WORk. In WV just west of Charleston was a huge outdoor market where u could get anything u wanted. Baskets of green beans, peaches, watermelons & they would cut a plug in it to see if it was ripe enough, & on really special occasions Mother would find a basket of Damson Plums that she would make into preserves, if she wasn’t too busy she would take the time to remove the big seed, otherwise when it was time to top off a big spoon full on ur biscuit u could bite down on the preserves & hope to not lose a tooth. Again ur hard work reminds me to thank all the migrant workers who cultivate so much of r vegetables & fruit.

Great video, as always! I love peas! When I was in high school, we were transferred to MD with my Dad's job. My Mom asked around if there were any farms that grew crowders. We were missing them so much! Sure enough, she was told of a lady who grew a big field of crowder peas every year. Anyway, the lady said sure, we could come pick. We did, and then spent some time visiting with the lady. She told us that she had never had anyone out to pick them, they did not eat them and that she grew them for the deer! That whole huge field of peas! Let me just say, we were in hog heaven!

I love your idea of planting an experimental bed. I think I’m going to “borrow” your idea and plant an experimental grow bag. Gonna try a new green bean called Livingston Sure Crop and Cherry Falls Tomatoes that look like Sweet Million. If anyone here has planted either of them let me know how they did. Thanks again for coming to Knoxville, everyone on the line with me was so happy you came. - Susan from TN

I was born in No. Carolina but consider myself from Georgia. I thought I knew about every bean and pea out there. The white one "paint horse" is a new one on me.

When you were about to plant more, another way to say it "same song, second verse"!!
Talking about good things to eat, snacks, dates,a good Christmas candy-like is dates with half pecan or walnut in it, cream cheese. And you could dip in chocolate.

Brings back memories of my little garden in Ohio! I used to buy a bushel for pickles from farms or roadside markets. One year I took my pickles to compete at the Fulton County Fair! I got a blue ribbon! Brings tears to my eyes now! Thanks for sharing! I’m gardening through you now!

I got excited when I heard you say you were planting some purple hull peas! I'm from NW Louisiana and when I first moved to Virginia and went looking for purple hull peas nobody around here new what I was talking about. They even have a purple hull pea festival in Arkansas but not many folks around Raonoke, Virginia have ever heard of them.

Corrie, stuff a date with cream cheese, wrap them with bacon slices and bake in the oven until the bacon is done. They make great appetizers.

Outshine needs to make a banana popsicle! That would be so good with little chunks of banana in it. Yum I’m so glad I suggested the rattlesnake beans a few years ago. You might not have gotten the idea just from me but it still makes my heart happy that y’all like them so well. We’ve grown them about 35 years or more and my father in law did before me. Mine are about halfway up the cow panel archway. Can’t wait for that first harvest. Best of the year to me. I need to make you a counter quilt to put your hot jars on when you take them out of the canner. Can’t remember if I’ve sent you one already but never hurts to have a new one. Bless you and your whole family.

I have stuffed large dates with shaved Parmesan cheese and wrapped them in bacon and baked them until bacon is done. Great appetizer for holidays

My grandmother made date loaves every Christmas season. She'd wrap them in aluminum foil and put a red ribbon on them and we would present them to our teachers. Every year a teacher had one of us in class, she'd comment that she couldn't wait for her Christmas date loaf bread.
