What a wonderful companion you have had in your marriage to Matt. It is obvious that he treasures you and everything about you in the way he looks at you, talks with you and expresses himself to you. You both are a treasure to behold and I thank you for sharing this with us.
Greetings Tipper! We’ve been doing much the same in our garden. I’m feeling much better & it’s November 6th. This week & last week in Middle TN has reached 70F. I’ve planted violas (Johnny Jump Up’s) in my old concrete planters that were my Ma’s. Johnny Jump Up’s bloom all winter & into Spring while the pansies Peter out. I’m late planting garlic due to my knee replacements. I’m also planting Fall bulbs to bloom in Spring. Over 30 years living here I’ve planted over 100 bulbs per year, plus those in the woods coming up from time long gone on a homestead that was here. I love naturalizing all kinds of bulbs so Spring will come extra early with 1st blooms (snowdrops &crocus) in January & February. Still praying for Granny. Blessings, Allison 🍁
Gotta say, I would love to know what went through Matt's mind when you said you had bugs, because he sure had to work at not laughing :) He is getting so good at those steps up the hill, you ought to run your beans in rows behind the new raised beds. Squash bug "eggs" don't overwinter, the adult squash bugs do. Try laying scraps of 2x4 or 2x6 lumber here and there on the ground in your cucumber bed over winter. Check it every now and then, you may find squash bugs. With all the woods you have around, I imagine it would be hard to eliminate leaf litter for them to hide under, but the board "traps" might be a start.
Tipper, you are just adorable! I got to giggling in the beginning of the video! And Matt had me laughing at the end…you said something to him and his response was…Cool. I was like Matt about school. I hated fall cuz I knew it was back to school and away from my mom. I still don’t like fall for that very reason, and I haven’t gone to school in like 30 years! Oh, and Congrats to Paul!!🎉
I’m a new gardener so I’m watching various gardening stuff on TH-cam. I’m not sure which one I heard this on but I did hear this. Don’t pull your plants completely out at the end of the season. Cut them off at the ground and leave the roots in the soil. It helps improve the soil over the winter. So I’m trying that.
I hope people comprehend what a rich, wonderful life this is -- with all the garden goodies, and peace and quiet, AND HARD WORK. You show people how abundance and joy can be had with good hard work. I wish I still had it left in me. I sure enjoy watching it, though!
Great to see a Husband and Wife working together. Tipper Your Face and Laughter shows that You have shed some of the burdens Your Family has had to deal with this year. God says laughter is medicine for the Soul. Thanx for sharing, God bless You and Your Family.😃
Such a peaceful back drop behind you two. Tomato sandwich is my favorite! I planted two plants in containers on my back deck and got less than 20 tomatoes-same with my neighbors. 2023 was a “skinny” tomato year. God bless Paul for his efforts in securing the education of the next generation in Appalachia!
Here, too. I put out 25 tomato plants so I could share and got what I'd normally get off of 8 plants. I'm thankful to have the goodies the tomatoes made, tho!
I like those coconut popsicles. They’re almost like real dessert. I didn’t care for school much either. Our potato crop was poor this year. Watching you clean out the garden surely makes me glad my garden is cleaned out! We struggle growing corn with our short growing season. Oh, I forgot to tell you, I finally opened a jar of your pickle recipe and they are crisp and tasty. When Matt oversees the tomato planting you could get him a T-shirt that says 🍅”MATER MAN.”🍅. 😂. TeresaSue.
Nasturtiums are edible the leaves are peppery and make a great addition to a salad and the flowers were often candied by the Victorians for cake decorations
Oh my, you all have so much fun…I wish I was 30 years younger. I would help you free of charge or just the hand full of tomatoes you just ate…yes I would !!!!! That’s how well I love tomatoes.
Hello from the Foothills of SC😊 We’re also at the end of our growing season except for our beautiful collards! They’ve had 2 frosts so I’m ready to have some cooked with a little pork ribs cooked in them., cornbread and soup beans with chow chow. I put our last bell peppers in the freezer Tuesday. I pulled my annuals out Monday because it hurts to see them frozen. Our gardens are taking their long winters nap, and I hope we have less bug pressure next season and a little more rain. Prayers for those in the areas with wildfires. The poor apple growers in Hendersonville are praying watching and waiting. It’s really hard to watch unfolding🙏
Come on, Matt. Get with the program and join the Tipper Skipper. If you don't bust a gut, you'll be better off for it! Seriously, I really enjoy your segments in the mountain garden. I'm sure it's a real challenge to grow things with all the rocks and hills around. And there's simply no better 'mater" than a small, sweet tommytoe. And don't fret too much about the last of the nasturtiums. They'll be back next year and even prettier than ever.
My stars, hard to believe how fast time goes! Seems like you were just hurrying to get the garden planted and suddenly it's the last harvest! Those peppers look nice.
Tipper and Matt. I second what Daphne Roberts said before my message. Watching the two of you joking around and laughing together does my heart good. It makes me smile and it just plain feels nice. I also laughed out loud (literally) so much Tipper, while watching you test Matt, Katie and Corietgrffffffffffffffm (had to leave your name in here like this Corie. It was compliments of Luna Soleil) about Appalachian words and their meanings. My cat Luna Soleil gets jealous when I'm on my lap top so she nonchalantly walks across my keyboard while looking at me as if to say "What"? I have spoiled her and know when she wants her shhhhh (snack) 🤫 If she even knows I've asked you to shhhh she'll tromp all over the keys again lol! Blessings xo
Matt. 😂😂😂 He's so chill. You two together are such a joy to watch. Oh. I've spent most of my Sunday listening to you read the book, Mountain Pathways. 😊 Thanks for sharing this.😊 Continued prayers for everyone. ❤ PS. The high is expected to be in the low 70s here in the Piedmont all next week. Hopefully you guys get a nice week too!
Glad you got a few more vegetables again this late in the season! Matt's hilarious with his thumbnail and the beans in his mouth looking like a walrus. Fun times. Prayers for Granny continue. So happy for Paul to retire. Thanks once again for sharing!
It’s just so much fun watching y’all. Matt cracks me you sometimes and Tipper, you had me laughing with the let’s run at the beginning. I’m so glad y’all are excited about your first grandchild. If you thought you couldn’t love another child as much as you do your girls, well think again. I can tell already your grandson will have y’all wrapped around his little hand. Congratulations to Paul on his up coming retirement!
Peppers are surprisingly hardy to cool weather but, not frost. As the temps decrease, the heat in a hot pepper decreases as well. You end up with mainly “duds”. Jalapeños without heat. 😊
Just Love Matt, he reminds me so much of my Father. Such a Natural. Tipper u r such a Well Rounded Individual with such a Great Demeanor. I Appreciate all of u Guys knowledge, especially about the Different Areas around where u live. U Guys Rock, Keep it Moving!
I can’t believe the school system would have their principal druve a bus!! Is it a small, rural, school where it’s all hands on deck? Good for Paul retiring. I know he is beside himself with joy!! Y’all’s yard looks so pretty! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
It feels so real just listening to you two chat with us-- as if we're neighbors sitting out back with you. I agree with Matt about putting in the steps in the January cold-- as long as the ground aint froze, it would be better to do in the cold than the heat. And yes, Tipper Im rooting for you to get your snow this year! Christmas Snow would be nice, but Im in FL. I was visiting a friend in Missouri last week, and it actually snowed for me! The Show Me State Indeed. It didnt stick, but it was nice. 😊
I do believe Matt is getting a second wind since retiring. There's a lightness, even with Granny's condition, that is evident. May your brother Paul be blessed in his retirement. Good tidings to all. 🥰
I always enjoy Matt's teasing, his humor and how well y'all go together. I can not get over those huge dang nasturtiums !!! I'm gonna find some of those pink ones like Katie got and give those a try next year. THANK YOU BOTH, as always. 🙌🏼 💞
Tipper, as you were describing what was left in the garden, you pointed out some of the unexpected pleasures, like the humongous nasturtiums, things that came up where you didn't plant them, or the beans that are so prolific and are now your and Matt's favorite. It occurred to me that in a year of emotional upheaval and time constraints, perhaps this was God's way of giving you unexpected "beauty for ashes." May He continue to bless you two. Praying for Paul as he moves into a new season of life, Granny, and the rest of the family.
Tipper and Matt, I was SO happy to hear you mention the coming of your grandbaby! You guys must be over the moon at the thought of it. I hope this finds everyone well and as Thanksgiving rapidly approaches, I find more things every day to be grateful for. Take care everyone!
Tipper, I love watching you and Matt in the garden and hanging out after putting in the work! I did the same thing last week. I picked all my peppers and brought inside to go to the Freezer. It was sad to see the blossoms that didn’t get to make little peppers! I missed gardening this summer. I planted the summer vegetables the end of April and it came up beautifully. We didn’t know Mama was going to get sick in early May. I tried to keep up with all the weeds & grass but they won. Once it got so bad, I told Larry to till it all under. But I found 2 beautiful pepper plants amongst all that grass. I lifted them & planted in grow bags and they did so good! Other than the early season broccoli & cabbage ( the ones I carried you when I met you in Sylva) that is the extent of my 2023 garden. We lost mama right after Labor Day & I miss her but I am looking forward to next springs garden! I am sending love and prayers to Granny. I hope she is tolerating her treatments well as possible. Give her a big hug from me! And I am so excited for you and your family welcoming that precious little grandson. You will be “ plum foolish“ over him. I am keeping our 7th month old little fellow today! He’s our 10th grandchild & we THINK he will probably be the last. They are just precious. Take care and keep the videos coming because we love you and you’re family!
Y’all are my favorite gardeners to watch. I guess that’s because I’m a Tarheel, too! I understand so much that you do, and say, that I feel right at home. Your homestead looks great!! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
I love how Matt just stands there idle while you Miss Tipper are revved up and ready to go. This is my favorite time of the year as well. Enjoyed the chat time. 👍🏻🙌🏻
I'm with Matt about school. I used to get a sick in the stomach feeling too. I always enjoy watching your videos. Have a great week. God bless and prayers for Granny.
I wish I could have sent you some of our rain. We had a months worth in one day! My entire garden was flooded up to my ankles when I had to go down to fill the bird feeders, take the squirrels nuts and the hedgehog biscuits! That is a wonderful final harvest you have there. Enjoy.
I just giggle at matt constantly, he's a nut. Thanks for letting us sit a spell, i always enjoy visitin' with y'all. Stay warm and i would love to see you make pepper jelly.
Thanks so much for this❤️ Yesterday was a hard day.... To sit down and watch you harvest... The peace.. The beauty of life... Does me good😊 I still have lettuce... And a few tomatoes that I covered and saved through our freeze last week... I pulled my aloe plants up to the house cause the house is warm and it radiates and I also covered them up.... But... Even though we warmed back up this week... Its just a matter of time... I know... Till ours is gonna be gone too.
@@CelebratingAppalachia Thank you Tipper. It is hard to create a new normal. First step... Is accepting that life has changed. I've struggled these past 2 months to do this. I think truly I have been in shock. I know y'all understand. Are y'all doing okay? You? The girls? Matt? Knowing they are with Father is a wondrous and glorious realization... But the loss is there. If you haveany advice... I truly am all ears. I know you were very close to your daddy too. In my family... Everybody counts on me to be the strong one.... So I hold it in until I'm alone..... That's when I miss Mama the most. The sharing of our day... The joys.. The trials...
@@user-ef2se7hs2b I remember feeling just like that and I'm sorry you're going through it now!! I found the 2 things that helped me most was the passing of time and focusing on all the good times I had with Pap and how blessed our family was to have his influence and guidance, but grieving is a process you have to go through at your own pace. I remember the hospice chaplain saying the price of great love is great grief. I know you have that great love for your sweet mama like we have for Pap. Praying for peace and comfort for you today!!
@@CelebratingAppalachia Thank you for this.... Very much. Your words struck a chord in me. Someone who truly understands from experience.... can speak profoundly to someone just starting that same kind of journey. ❤️❤️❤️
You both are so fun to watch and listen to. I love coming out in the yard and picking peppers finding treasure like the dill. life don't get much better than that. I remember the first time Matt grossed you and the girls out with the toenail clippings popsicle, now that was funny. God bless you all.
Last week, in s.e. Wisconsin we had to rush to get in all the green lush veggies before our hard frost came too. I collected 225 grape tomatoes and made salsa with them--4 quarts came out of that! Now we're back into the high 40's and 50's. It's just not fair to rob the garden for a few days of frost.
Hi Tipper and Matt. Isn't it glorious when the growing season winds down? Love it when it starts and love it when it's over. Now my time will be busy with canning the meat birds we grew this summer. Pretty enjoyable. Take care.
Tipper sure wants some snow. Im with her . We never get snow in South Carolina.. Orif wefpget any its just a dusting.. Prayers for granny.. God bless.. Love your channel..🇺🇸🌹❤️
Enjoyed you two together as always. Paul is retiring very young. Glad he could do that. I'm sure he'll be missed as their principal. I was a teacher, then elementary principal before I retired. Blessings to your whole family.
You are so cute together! Lovely visit. That first cold snap IS exciting for those of us who despise hot weather. And there's nothing more satisfying than a fall cleanup. Thanks for sharing. Prayers for Granny. Peace be with you. 💚
Yes there's been a shortage of bus drivers here in our area to for several years. I enjoyed seeing the last of your harvest and listening to you and Matt just talking I look forward to the Sunday videos.😊
Interesting to hear about your brother. I'm the principal at my local pre K -12 school. We have our share of issues too. Thankfully I don't have to drive a bus. Please tell him congratulations.
The dying of nasturtiums always makes me the saddest. Maybe next year you could try making a tincture from the last flowers and leaves of the nasturtiums. It has many medicinal benefits. Also dried dill is very good sprinkled on a yummy bowl of beef stew/deer stew. It really brightens and enhances the flavor. Your garden was so lovely this season!
Ya'll still got a good haul of your garden. If you got a coupled hand fulls of Tommy Toes, you could pick them and put some in with your peppers,, add some onion and pickle them. They're so good with beans n peas! I laughed so hard when you took off running Tipper! Ya'll are so perfect together! We're going to have a really Cold Winter this year with alot of SNOW! Expect that Tipper! There will be alot of Snow! Temps got down to 14° here in Blue Ridge one morning by my Outside Therometer! It was very cold! A long cold winter will Kill off the bugs is what as need. I think its gonna be one this Winter! Love Yall n God Bless. 🙏🙏❤❤👏👏
I LOVE watching your videos! This ending is cute! The COLD has come to my area and I don’t like it! I will continue watching your videos and in spring and it will be exciting watching you two make a big garden again!
Tipper I love ground cherries too, the rest of the family is missing out lol! Isn't it amazing how much you harvest even now, at the end of the season?
I am glad you all got to harvest a few more things before the big frost. I had some plants on the porch up here in Virginia and the evening after we had a hard frost (Thursday I think) it looked like I had poured a pot of boiling water over them! LOL They were about done for the year anyway.
I'm so grateful for your you tube channel. When life gets hectic & full of chaos I love to come here & watch a few videos from the past. It takes my mind off things & allows me to dream of life in the Appalachian mountains. I'm so glad that Matt was able to retire this year & that Paul's time is coming after the Christmas holidays. I can't wait for Katie's little baby next year. I never had any grand babies but that was a lifelong dream of mine. Y'all are going to love having him around. Hugs!
Somehow I managed to watch this after I saw the one with the aftereffects of the frost and it's amazing how much things changed overnight. I've known theoretically that gardening there is entirely different from here in SoCal, but watching your videos throughout the years really brings it home. It's planting time here.
I never had a big love of school either, but I recognized I needed an education to acquire the profession I desired. 😊 Sometimes I thought I was in a time warp and the final semester of college would never come. 🤣 I have been fortunate to experience many wonderful opportunities in my life….a rewarding job, a nice home to live in, traveled to various areas of the world. However, the joy I experience when I visit the mountains of North Carolina is something I will always treasure. You and your family are blessed. Don’t ever doubt that. Thank you for your wonderful TH-cam channel.

Thank you Karen!! I'm so sorry you lost her!! Those cabbage were so good!! 😀
Y’all are my favorite gardeners to watch. I guess that’s because I’m a Tarheel, too! I understand so much that you do, and say, that I feel right at home.
Your homestead looks great!! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
That is so kind-thank you Judy 😀
You done good this season, Matt and Tipper! Be safe!
As always , enjoyed the video. Prayers for Granny and for your grandbaby ❤❤
Thanks so much 😀
I love how Matt just stands there idle while you Miss Tipper are revved up and ready to go. This is my favorite time of the year as well. Enjoyed the chat time. 👍🏻🙌🏻
Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Y’all had a real bounty this year! Thanks for sharing with us.
I'm with Matt about school. I used to get a sick in the stomach feeling too. I always enjoy watching your videos. Have a great week. God bless and prayers for Granny.
Y’all had a great garden despite all the things that needed your time . I’m going to have to try that pepper jelly , I’ve never tasted it.
When I was growing up, My Daddy always liked Silver Queen corn and Dixie Lee peas, both still a favorite!!
Nothing better than home grown veggies !!!!🌺
I wish I could have sent you some of our rain. We had a months worth in one day! My entire garden was flooded up to my ankles when I had to go down to fill the bird feeders, take the squirrels nuts and the hedgehog biscuits! That is a wonderful final harvest you have there. Enjoy.
I remember watching you in 2021, 2022 put the garden to bed, and now 2023.🎉 You two are wonderful.❤
So much pleasure watching you two😀
Y'all are cute. Thank you for sharing. It's nice to see a couple happy together.
Thank you! 🤗
So many beautiful blessings ahead for ya'll. Praise God 🙌
Sending love, hugs, and prayers for you all! ❤🙏❤️
I just giggle at matt constantly, he's a nut. Thanks for letting us sit a spell, i always enjoy visitin' with y'all. Stay warm and i would love to see you make pepper jelly.
😀 Thank you! Here's a pepper jelly video: th-cam.com/video/g_P_OjBNrvs/w-d-xo.html
Awesome thank you so much!
Hey Matt congrats on your promotion to co-owner 🎉
Love that a vacation day was your first decree.😂
😀
Matt sounds like me when I was in school, homework when there is squirrels running around the woods…
I hope this week is better 😀
Matt, you made me LOL with your thumbnail shenanigans!😂 You’re just full of mischief!
the woods; i paid to say... that a journey always end in the arms of a good women
You both are so fun to watch and listen to. I love coming out in the yard and picking peppers finding treasure like the dill. life don't get much better than that. I remember the first time Matt grossed you and the girls out with the toenail clippings popsicle, now that was funny. God bless you all.
Good to have fun while you’re working
Last week, in s.e. Wisconsin we had to rush to get in all the green lush veggies before our hard frost came too. I collected 225 grape tomatoes and made salsa with them--4 quarts came out of that! Now we're back into the high 40's and 50's. It's just not fair to rob the garden for a few days of frost.
I agree 😀
Hi Tipper and Matt. Isn't it glorious when the growing season winds down? Love it when it starts and love it when it's over. Now my time will be busy with canning the meat birds we grew this summer. Pretty enjoyable. Take care.
Tipper sure wants some snow. Im with her . We never get snow in South Carolina.. Orif wefpget any its just a dusting.. Prayers for granny.. God bless.. Love your channel..🇺🇸🌹❤️
That the ground cherry that you wiped off with your shirt is 💯 percent cleaner than anything you get in the grocery store.
Enjoyed you two together as always. Paul is retiring very young. Glad he could do that. I'm sure he'll be missed as their principal. I was a teacher, then elementary principal before I retired. Blessings to your whole family.
I have 3 very small beds and grew potatoes in one bed covered with straw. They did very good.
in the past I always had good luck growing pumpkins and sunflowers ...squirrels loved the sunflowers
Thank you Krissy 😀
Interesting to hear about your brother. I'm the principal at my local pre K -12 school. We have our share of issues too. Thankfully I don't have to drive a bus. Please tell him congratulations.
The dying of nasturtiums always makes me the saddest. Maybe next year you could try making a tincture from the last flowers and leaves of the nasturtiums. It has many medicinal benefits. Also dried dill is very good sprinkled on a yummy bowl of beef stew/deer stew. It really brightens and enhances the flavor. Your garden was so lovely this season!
Thank you!! Corie made a tincture with them last year 😀 It is horrid tasting but it seemed to help a cold we had 😀
@@CelebratingAppalachia Cool!
I totally knew what Matt was thinking about while harvesting the last of the garden! Hunting!
It’s so hard to see the beautiful flowers that will be gone after the frost💐🙏🏻💕
Tipper you have a comforting voice :)
Beautiful Harvest so healthy Nostortium beautiful love them. 🩷💞🍃🍂🍁🥬🌱
Second time seeing pepper plants being picked…I never get tired of watching how you all do your garden.
You are so kind-thank you 😊
I just found out yesterday that nasturtiums are considered weeds in Australia!!!
Wow 😀
I LOVE watching your videos! This ending is cute! The COLD has come to my area and I don’t like it! I will continue watching your videos and in spring and it will be exciting watching you two make a big garden again!
Tipper I love ground cherries too, the rest of the family is missing out lol! Isn't it amazing how much you harvest even now, at the end of the season?
Love Matts humor !
Well Golly! That was a plentiful harvest, I really enjoyed this, Thank you & God bless!
Thank you 😊
I am glad you all got to harvest a few more things before the big frost. I had some plants on the porch up here in Virginia and the evening after we had a hard frost (Thursday I think) it looked like I had poured a pot of boiling water over them! LOL They were about done for the year anyway.
I bet that was a joy to get in the last of your harvest. Blessings your way.
The year is coming to an end with only 49 days until Christmas ⛄🎁
I'm so grateful for your you tube channel. When life gets hectic & full of chaos I love to come here & watch a few videos from the past. It takes my mind off things & allows me to dream of life in the Appalachian mountains. I'm so glad that Matt was able to retire this year & that Paul's time is coming after the Christmas holidays. I can't wait for Katie's little baby next year. I never had any grand babies but that was a lifelong dream of mine. Y'all are going to love having him around. Hugs!
So glad you enjoy what we do! Thank you!!
I have been fortunate to experience many wonderful opportunities in my life….a rewarding job, a nice home to live in, traveled to various areas of the world. However, the joy I experience when I visit the mountains of North Carolina is something I will always treasure. You and your family are blessed. Don’t ever doubt that.
Thank you for your wonderful TH-cam channel.
So glad you enjoy our videos! Thank you 😊
Tipper you had me laughing with your ‘running to harvest’ antics. 😊
Those stairs are so nice. Makes running up and down the hill doable ❤
