- On our last day in Marrakesh, we kept exploring the streets of Medina and shopping for souvenirs. I bought a Berber Jacket for myself, originally priced at 600 Dirhams, but I got it for 300 Dirhams without bargaining. The seller offered me a lower price when I mentioned I only had 300 MAD.
While browsing shops, I met a Moroccan man who spoke Japanese surprisingly well! It was unexpected and showed how language can connect people instantly. I wanted to talk more, but we had to rush for a massage session booked by my friend.
On our way back to our Riad, I saw a small store with a line of people. The smell of fried fish and seeing others enjoy it encouraged me to ask the friendly cook about it. Though I didn't understand his answer, I could tell from the ingredients that it was made of fish, eggplant, and tomato. Simple yet delicious and affordable!
For travelers on a budget like me, I recommend exploring Medina for cheap and tasty street food like this.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy Marrakesh as much as I do now. Despite hearing negative reviews from friends, our initial struggles navigating the city and worrying about traffic initially made me skeptical. I was stressed and worried when crossing the streets, thinking that a motorcycle or a donkey would stomp on me anytime if I were not careful or attentive to my surroundings. However, we quickly adapted on the second day, which made our trip more enjoyable. Indeed, there's still much to learn about Moroccan culture, but one thing is for sure: I'll definitely visit again.
