  • A friend from the United States who visited me in Barcelona convinced me to go to Morocco. It was our first time traveling to this country. Our first day was quite an experience as we explored the old town of Marrakesh, Medina. Discovering new places and cultures was surreal, but I was more excited to try their food-especially the street food!
I must admit that we were a bit culture-shocked on our first day; we felt unsafe getting lost in the streets of Medina. However, it took only a short time before we got accustomed to our new environment since the locals were very friendly.
We had some difficulty with the communication, but this made this trip more exciting!
The Moroccan bread "Khobz" with egg and olive oil was simple and tasty! My friend was reluctant to try, but in the end, she took a bite :D
Also, Msemen was yummy-it was a flat Moroccan pancake with honey and cheese! (The one that I had.) Also, the kebab and skewers were delicious!
Don't snob the Snail soup that you can find on the streets. It may seem unappealing, but the taste will surely surprise you.
The Tagine we had was mouthwatering. The meat was very tender-it melted in our mouth!
If you are traveling to Marrakesh for the first time, don't talk to strangers; some locals will try to approach you and sell something. Sometimes, they would even say that no one is allowed to go in the direction where you are heading to get your attention.
Stay away from the Money changer inside the airport. You will get a higher exchange rate in the City.
Before you buy something, ask how much it is and be clear about the drink size you want to buy. For example, some juice stores would try to sell you the bigger size if you don't tell them you only want the smaller cup.
The street might seem unsafe, but IT IS NOT, so feel free to explore! I would be more worried walking in the streets of Raval in Barcelona!
And if you come to Medina to shop, be ready to HAGGLE! And if bargaining is not your thing, I advise you to go shopping in the new town since most prices are already fixed!
