"Wretches And Kings" is easily one of the most criminally underrated tracks out there and knowing that legit pisses me off, I truly can't understand why a masterpiece like this can be so slept on, right? Among every other song on the album, this is the one that gives off adrenaline and excitement. Such a heavy tune to jam to and it's worthy of a shower concert, trust me. It's so amusing when the "hey, hey, hey, hey" part comes on before Chester's unparalleled vocals screaming those words at the top of his lungs: "Steel unfold, final blow, we the animals take control and so on (I misheard the lyrics before finding out the actual lyrics of the song lmao, I thought he said: "Still alone, final war, weedy animals take control" at first) I feel like I'm Chester himself, although it's still humanely impossible to sound like him.
Honestly, the speech they sample in the song is amazing, and it’s put to good use in the song. And for those curious it’s a speech by Mario Savio from December 1964.
*"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels... upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!"* - Mario Savio, December 2, 1964, on the steps of Sproul Hall.
The thing that sounds like a synth in this song is actually a bass. I think there’s three bass tracks. Phoenix tuned his bass to drop A and used a Z.Vex Mastotron pedal so it sounds so ridiculously distorted that you wouldn’t think it’s a bass, especially since the lead bass track is played on the higher strings.
Exactly. Was saying this for years. And now people listen to Yeezus and Death Grips and all have a similar production. Rock/Metal elitists are the worst
@@mayatrash It was released almost at the same time electronica, trap and IDM was starting to blow up, death grips were doing their first EP but noisier I wouldn’t say ahead of its time but it was definitely of its time and a bit experimental. It’s one of my favorite albums by LP
Not a very popular opinion, but I think ATS is actually my favorite LP album. Hybrid Theory and Meteora are obviously brilliant, but ATS fit a bit more with my personal taste.
Chester's voice echoes piercing my soul. The sounds, Joseh Hahn killing it..Mike's flow.I have been given life again experiencing nostalgia to this song for the first time since it was out. This song is aging so well. Nostagia makes you notice every detail of the song, from the sounds to the vocals. What an incedible feeling.
A fan is someone who expects their favorirte band to surprise them, not all the songs should hear the same way or the same rhytm. If you really like LP you always find a way to enjoy new sounds
You can like a band but not like the direction they go in. I'll always favor the Hybrid Theory/Meteora/Reanimation era of LP but there's a lot of good stuff in the later albums as well, just maybe not front to back as good (imo.) That being said, I can still appreciate the work they put in on the songs even if I personally don't always love where they went musically.
@@ce0990 this album was something I did not like at all at first. But it grew on me, a lot. Every time I listen to it I like it and appreciate it more than the previous.

Me and a friend would blast this song on the school bus in our early years of high school. We just let the music flow through us while everyone looked at us like we were nuts. We'll miss you, Chester.
Well, they are the ones that are nuts. Not only did LP give us a message(mostly for help), but they saved a lot of ppls lives(me included, but unfortunately, only the universe is keeping me alive now ;-; There is no helping me now) because of how fking relatable most of the songs are :> They did awesome and those ppl probably didn't even listen to the lyrics or just didn't go through what we went through to understand. Either way, Chester and Mike rocks. I just wish I could've at least gone to one concert before he died. The only reason I couldn't was because I was young and in elementary school and also in and out of the hospital and doing ballet, gymnastics and cheerleading so I also had competitions to go to which ended badly... I have slight scoliosis now ;-; I had quit all three just for that reason, but now I wish I didn't quit gymnastics at least cause I am almost bedridden now :( i'll go now...

heavy bass... great vocals... and perfect beat... So overall a great type of song to listen to for boredom and for a great time to listen to a song that's perfect
This sounds so rebellious. Love that type of spirit only LP could translate making everyone from the front to the back and from side to side explode! This song was absolutely insane live! Miss it soooooo much...
Perfect rapping, perfect sync with the chorus, perfect beat, perfect breakdowns, and the speech in the middle eighth means it is one of the best songs ever
This song gives me chills. He's singing to himself about ending his life. "I know what it's like to move on." Chester did what he thought was the right thing to do for himself AND his family. I've seen so many interviews where he talks about how he never thought he'd be a good enough Dad. Dear God, poor Chester. He didn't know what else he could do to get rid of his pain. Thank you for leaving us your songs, your beautiful voice, your honesty about depression, and your Legacy.❤
They're definitely easier to hear in a live setting, but Thy Art Is Murder, Rings Of Saturn, Emmure, Carnifex, and Suffocation have some of the best. And anything from Lucker-era Suicide Silence.

Can you please explain the meaning of this song? I assume it is about some kind of revolution where the wretches; the filthy animals take on the kings, and beat them black and blue, but what is the context?
If i'm not mistaken, most LP members are well educated people. So i dont find it weird that they'd be talking abt politics and such instead of s3x and tr4sh talking.
Meccarox George Orwell's Animal Farm. It's a metaphorical piece about revolution. I probably think of it because of the line "We, the animals, take control"
