Cocktail Chemistry I like you videos, but you should learn that ounces are imperial and mililiters are metric, not the other way around. Metric kicks imperials ass
Once my dad was in a bar and he ordered the pan galactic gargle blaster because he is a fan of the book, even though he didn't know what it was and there was no description on the menu. He ordered it, the bartender (probably new here) looked it up, looked very suprised and served him 1cl of every spirit available (mixed together). He had 300ml of I-dont-want-to-try-or-even-know
After my ex asked for a divorce, my brother took me to a bar and announced to the bartender what had happened. He quickly made me a drink (that was similar to what you described) and placed it in front of me. I asked what it was, he replied "Adios Motherfucker"
@@askhowiknow5527 Obviously he should have written "This is a drink I never thought I'd see someone make so *good*." So well work Lewis, if you don't educate they will never learn...
YOU: The science behind this technique deserves it's own video ME: ... is there going to be such a video? Because I would like to see that video, please.
I also think that rapid infusion doesn't even need cartridges. The pressure of pumping ambient air should be enough. Maybe a collaboration with a maker channel to outfit your Isi container with a connector for a hand-pump or electric pump is in order?
You, sir are a Hoopy Frood! I salute you! (many years ago my nerd friends and I attempted our own recreation. The effect was similar, but your recipe is much more drinkable.)
i too want to make a pangalactic gargle blaster, and share it with my nerdy uncle and dad! remember the peanuts, the world is about to end. though, the pangalactic gargle blaster is just a pimped up ol' janx spirit, i look forward to have my head fly, my tongue lie, my eyes fry, and i may die.
This is the video I used to introduce my father - who is an environmental chemist, HAZMAT technician, whiskey man and Hitchhiker enthusiast - to this fantastic channel. Everything about this is PERFECT
You probably won't see this since the video was posted so long ago, but just wanted to let you know that I just celebrated my 42nd birthday and used your recipe as inspiration to serve a pan galactic gargle blaster at my party. I did quite a bit of research and yours hit the right balance of true to the spirit of the book's recipe and actually tasting good (if a BIT strong). My only main modification was adding dry ice at the end and a more minor one was to mix the citric acid with edible silver dust (I wanted gold dust for the link to Heart of Gold, but couldn't find any locally). Thanks for your video and helping me celebrate in true HGTG style! Cheers!
After two of those babies, the dullest, most by-the-book Vogon will be up on the bar in stilettos, yodeling mountain shanties and swearing he's the king of the Gray Binding Fiefdoms of Saxaquine.
Capitan Kaktus He made an error though, "for those under the imperial system, precisely 42mL". Ounces is the imperial system, everyone else is the metric system. :P
I have Cocktail Chemistry on auto play while cooking and I could not help but burst into a huge smile when I heard the mention of the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. Immediately stopped what I was doing. My favorite book series and movie!! Thank you for this!!!
Thank you for adding the metric measurements! This eases things a lot! And it's also great to see that at least some Americans acknowledge the existence of the metric system. It always seems to get lost somewhere. Anyway, great video! Fantastic attention to detail, and always entertaining. Keep up the great work! :)
So I'm truly into bartending and you're my number one inspiration. Love everything you do although the "special techniques" are my favorites. You're truly a bartender with elegance and that is quite rare on TH-cam! Don't ever stop making videos!
This is the first time I've really thought I saw something that resembled the gargleblaster. This will be in my imagination everytime I reread the books now. GOOD SHOW!
This is probably one of the best videos I've seen in existence, from the humour and attention to detail, to the great cinematography and just plain awesomeness, thank you for making such great videos and I can't wait to see more 😁🥂🍹
I just received my amazon package with the equipment and made this tonight. Both my Dad and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to trying some other variations possibly double straining and then back to the infuser for slightly more effervescence fizz. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work.
I actually teared up while watching this. Then I laughed. Bravo! I think Douglas would have enjoyed this a great deal. You are indeed one very hoopy frood and have earned a sub.
It's been 6 years...i think they realised the Ultimate Question to the Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe, and Everything and got deleted from existence
I got into rapid infusions for a bit. It's a little bit tricky because you have to worry about how much space is left in the container when you pressurize it, how to prep the ingredients, and the timing of everything. I went through most of my canisters experimenting only to come to the conclusion that it only really makes sense for citrus peel, vegetables, and fruits when you can't just buy the juice. It'll do fresh herbs but you could just muddle those. Liquor pulls the essential oils out of fine citrus zest pretty fast on it's own too. When my friends burned through the last of my chargers trying to do whippits, I didn't see much reason to go out and buy more. If you want to be real classy though, try throwing cucumber slices in there with a finished cocktail. When you release the pressure they soak up whatever they're in.
I didn't go through all the comments but at the Zaphod Beeblebrox bar in Ottawa they made a PGGB. I can't remember the exact recipe but it was orange juice, jack Daniels, blue Curaçao and a couple other things. It was bright green and unexpectedly good.
I own a few first editions of the book and radio scripts, give them to special people for birthdays. Ive heard a pub in Vancouver makes a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, ive tried a similar method to yours but was basically just grain alcohol with lemons
With homemade techniques You can infuse lemon zest even in 2 or 3 days to make a lemon liquor. Or if you are in a hurry in 30 minutes. Less you let it sit more flavors there will be. With weeks of infusion you may extract even some waxes that can be quite bitters.
There used to be a club in my city called Zaphod Beeblebrox; and of course they had their own interpretation of this... it wasn't this hardcore but I do miss it.

You gave Hitchhikers Guide the proper respect. Great job.

42 is just a book reference guys... you got bamboozled
roxascloud101 its not that its 42 and more that he called mL imperial
I checked, even though the measurement itself is a reference to the series, it checks out, somehow

Thank you for this!!!
Great video, maybe you should try to make the Nutri-Matic's 'almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea' tea
99thTuesday so, rooibos? 😉
99thTuesday Yeah, it'd help him sober up from the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.
99thTuesday Why? It's described as quite unpleasant, or at least not worth drinking.
Country time powdered tea. Thats ur answer to what it would taste like. Not quite tea but sorta

Why two? Wouldn't one be enough if you added enough lemon zest?
Or ground it finer?
