You mean coffee liqueur (e.g. Kahlua) and tequila? That drink actually first appeared in Trader Vic's Pacific Island Cookbook back in 1968 as the 'Brave Bull', so it predates Archer by decades. There are arguably as many cocktails that've been forgotten as there are waiting to be made.

You missed the crème de menthe. The 'How to Archer' handbook has its own cocktail section and states:
    2 ounces absinthe
    2 ounces vodka
    1 ounce crème de menthe
2 ounces milk (Pam, being a lost cause, uses heavy cream)
It's drinkable, but very much like toothpaste in flavour.

The most recent Archer cocktail is the Moscow Mousse (barbicide and hair gel). A non-toxic version should be vodka, ginger syrup, blue curacao, and (to reflect the flavor of most scented hair gels) either amaretto, crème de cacao, Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum or Captain Morgan's Coco Loco.

I wonder how many people actually make these drinks. I made this one today and, hot dog, it is really really great and complex - herbaceous, floral, and smooth. Definitely looking forward to serving it to some friends on new year's (over some crystal clear ice, of course!).

    • @MikePouch

Straining takes "upwards of 30 minutes" - I strained it through a cheesecloth, then through multiple strainers of increasing meshes, then through coffee filters. I had to change my coffee filter a bunch of times (prob went through 10) since the curd residue was really slowing things down. It took me prob 90-120 minutes in total.

Love your stuff, man! On point mixing! I hate to be that guy, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere. There's a second official recipe for the Green Russian that, while still terrible, is more palatable than 1oz vodka, 1oz absinthe, 2oz cream. It comes from the book "How To Archer," which is written in character as Sterling and I believe licensed by the studio. It gives 2oz vodka, 2oz absinthe, 1oz creme de menthe and 2oz milk "(Pam, being a lost cause, uses heavy cream)," shaken over ice and strained into an ice filled Collins glass. "Drink, while thinking about the decisions that have brought you to this very spot, at this very moment." It...definitly lives up to the portrayal in the show. Not that that's a good thing in this case.

Most people were opposed to them... until they had a few drinks in them. But once everybody was good and drunk, the night usually ended with people drinking several of them and everyone throwing up milk in someone’s backyard. We used to go out to this huge local cantina for everyone’s birthdays and for mine everyone drank a Farmer’s Daughter. Good times.

At first I thought I was like "Oh, creme de menth, vodka, and cream. That's doesn't sound half bad." Then you mentioned that the green was from absinthe and my face just turned in on itself.

I honestly thought you were making some kind of joke when you started in with milk and lime juice. I've done that before, to make cheese. I didn't know that the supernatant liquid was useful for cocktails.

I’m not convinced you can’t make the absinthe work. I once had a absinthe milkshake and it was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had

I would say that even trading out absinthe for the green Chartreuse or maybe green creme de menthe would improve the drink at least partially, even if the end result is mediocre at best.

I would've thought an improved "green Russian" would just be tarchun and vodka.

So, turns I was drinking fancy cocktails after school? Pro tip: substitute Tarchun for Kolokolchik or Buratino if you're from Russian south and know of those.

Is there something I could substitute for the Chartreuse? Or something that would just work well in its place?

What if you melted a sugar cube into the absinthe tho? Isn't that what you do before you drink absinthe anyway?

Just made this today, and I must've made a mistake somewhere as mine didn't come out quite that clear, but damn it's still really good.
