Thank you for the submission, "Zaio" McCall 😉 I wasn't sure what to expect when it got picked but man did it blow me away. It's one of the most fun Doom II mods I've ever played, it all feels so satisfying. Fantastically done.
Zio put so much hard work and dedication into this mod, and I've been an enjoyer of it for years. It's way more complex and interesting than its simple name suggests - it's not just a brutal version of Wolfenstein, but a completely reimagined one. The levels are all recognizable from their original versions, but they look so much better. Case in point: people who don't like Brutal Doom (or at least arent huge fans of it) still enjoy BW. It's a definite experience, and I'm really happy to see decino enjoying it too.
Facts…If I want to play a “brutal” game it’s this one I just don’t enjoy brutal doom tbh but Wolfenstein is just SO much better with the brutal add-on. And also question for decino himself, do you ever plan on doing a RTCW playthrough? Other than the forced stealth missions I think it’s better overall than even the newer Wolfenstein games.
Man, what a maverick work of art Brutal Wolfenstein is. It's more than just a recreation of Wolf3D in Doom's engine. It's something so much better than that. The lighting, texture use, enemy behavior, and new player abilities breathe new life into all these classic levels. And the sound design like the echoes beyond walls and the RtCW music are so immersive
since you didn’t seem to enjoy brutal doom a lot, i wasn’t expecting you to enjoy brutal wolfenstein. maybe i should give this mod a try again, haha thanks for giving this a try, i really enjoyed playing this mod.
Is there 6 episodes of this? This is just what I need to scratch that old school Wolfenstein itch with a slightly more invigorated playstyle. Doom is the game that keeps on giving.
If all you want is a slight improvement over the original, may I suggest Macenwolf? The graphical overhaul and higher-quality sfx give the classic a new life. Brutal Wolfenstein is a very different experience and IMHO starts to feel like a build engine game, with all the utility items and insta-death hitscanners.
@@r.g.thesecond macenwolf isnt a graphical overhaul because its just a recreation of the mac version lmao. that port (and the jaguar port) would be a graphical overhaul although they have different textures and assets
Just one bit of feedback, papa pumpkin: if you play more GZDoom submissions with dynamic lights, there's a "light shadowmaps" option in the port. It stops lights from radiating through walls, which looks very silly. Even the most basic settings for it (shadowmap filter and shadowmap quality) do the job without being taxing on performance.
I activated this option in multiple settings and worked with varying degrees of sucess, some dynamic lights didn't bleed through while others did, so I don't know, could you give me your settings so I can try it?
@@CoracaoAcidental98 I just set shadowmap filter and shadowmap quality to the highest, but that's because I'm running Vulkan and am insistent on using Flashlight++. For the usual Doom player's rig, I'd say shadowmap quality oh high and shadowmap filter on 128 should do it.
For the ones he didn't: pistol is a Luger P08, semi auto rifle is the Gewehr 43, what he called a sniper rifle is a Karabiner 98 Kurs (commonly known as the Kar98K), assault rifle is the SturmGewehr 44 (often shortened to StG-44). Grenades are Stielhandgrenate
Excellent submission, very brutal, very demanding on your reflexes and combat ability. Well played decino👌💯 Brutal Wolfenstein is BigMacDavis' dreams and nightmares merged together. I hope he sees this submission and gets motivated to play Brutal Wolfenstein sometime in the future.
Based on the name I expected a joke .wad, but this rules. The mix of running/gunning and careful room clearing is great, and the enemy aggression combined with the janky pathfinding means you're never sure when a group of Nazis will ambush you. I never would have even thought about this if you hadn't showcased it, now I have to download it.
The flamethrower guys are my nemesis, especially in E3m6 those guy always placed all around tight corners like mapmaker knew how to make a proper jumpscare level
I started playing Brutal Wolfenstein after watching this video! I love it, I'm about halfway through Operation Eisenfaust. I just wish the WAD was more well-known cause it's so good
Oh my god, how have I not heard about this before? Breathtaking how brutal, scary and hard this looks, considering its "just a Doom II Mod". Amazing stuff.
Full playthrough of Brutal Wolf3d? I love this mod, in particular the Spear of Destiny episodes and its final level remake is fantastic stuff and extremely challenging, i could only play it on the medium skill and i was at my limits and being a fan of the original Wolf3d+SoD it was really cool seeing it remade
Man, I love it when Doom plays more like a modern shooter, I've always found it so unrealistic when you can stand right in the line of sight of enemies and they take more than 2 seconds to kill you. It's so unrealistic. This is what REAL gameplay looks like! Using corners and geometry to your advantage to FULL MAXIMUM potential and treating every enemy like a mini-boss, because they WILL kill you if they catch you OFF GUARD. This was even more exciting to watch than Plutonia 2 with fast monsters! Kudos to Zaio Macall for making this, would love to see you play MORE of this mod!
Few days ago I had a thought: will decino ever show us his skills in the original (historical) Wolfenstein 3d? And you did THIS, which is amazing. That's truly enough. The reflexes are Bruce Lee level. Thank you!
They actually used to not drop ammo if they exploded back in version 4.5. But because they explode more frequently in the final version (and always at uber),it would have been pretty unfair to the player not being able to collect the weapon drop.

This looked pretty good, and was a fun watch! Although I have to admit, it still has the same issue that I feel plagues Brutal Doom and its ilk. The gameplay on the Brutal mods looks like it feels great to play, but there's so much visual clutter that I can't tell what's going on half the time, which is a problem in a mod as chaotic as Brutal Doom/Wolfenstein tends to be. It's not quite as bad here as in Brutal Doom, but all the explosions, gore, smoke, lighting tweaks, and particle effects make it pretty hard on the eyes sometimes.
