Now do map33 kekw Jokes aside, I'm really glad you liked this level. All 33 of the maps in this wad are the first 33 maps I completed that weren't based on existing ones. I also was originally targeting Crispy Doom/CL2 instead of MBF21, but having just a few MBF21 and Boom features let me clean up a lot of jank in both level design and monster code. The SSG Bro shoots 13 pellets, so with unlucky RNG, he can oneshot a full health, unarmored player, which is why they have a distinct wakeup sound. The technique I used to make the organ playable ended up getting recycled into a few earlier levels that have Doomcute toilets to make them make sounds when flushed. It's an invisible Dehacked entity behind an unseen lift that plays a sound when it sees a player, then goes back to sleep as the lift rises back up. It isn't even an MBF21-ism and can be done with plain old Dehacked just by having a thing's alert state direct to its idle state!
Thanks for the submission! I do actually would like to check out MAP33 someday, it sounds very intriguing. I was so happy when the submission picker chose the WAD because I've seen all the hard work you put into it on Discord. Definitely did not disappoint, thanks again.
This is awesome wad, thanx for making it. But on this map i think you could block yellow buttons with timered bars/walls since they obviously difficulty-rising so that you can't press all buttons at same time (like i did - just pressed all and enjoy the biggest infight ever) and give a player some feeling of difficulty spikes with every button pressed. Decino made it here from hardest to easiest i think

This wad has so many fights that are never "circle strafe to win" -- the island fight at 13:10, the one where the teleporters push you to alternate sides at 22:52, the obstructed semicircle at 21:13 -- fun to watch and well designed! You managed to do 120 damage to decino with the crusher at 18:45 and 88 damage with the Spider Mastermind at 40:53 -- excellent use of both! In both cases you put the danger level right where Decino was willing to risk it without having to play ultra-careful or nonchalant, and got interesting fights out of lower tier enemies. Does the 'co-op teleporter' at 22:26 do something different in co-op? Is it for letting people who died get back to the action? It seems to take him right back to where he is. The organ at 32:08 is so cool! Would it have been feasible to make the different sections play different chords? Are the keys really a stock Doom texture? 17:21 It's really cool how streamers like Decino reward mappers by letting you actually see the pleasure you hoped to create with good secret design. Thank you for building this for strangers to enjoy, and thanks to Decino for showing it off.
33 Megawad? Custom baddies? All done by one Bofu? And a secret LEE JACKSON? I just finished the Wolfenstein one and we found another banger. Levels seem very beefy and I always appreciate the Hexenlike doom castles. Also very nice we got all the stuff in the description for scurbs like me.
It's very good stuff! Definitely recommended. Be warned though, it gets quite difficult! This is only map 17 after all and it's already that intense lol.
Making a 33 map megawad all on your own with all but one map having it's own original midi too is a serious amount of effort. My hat goes off to you Bofu, its Michaelangelo levels of individual work to do this lol. 😄

As an aside, what'd you think of the Doom Dark Ages trailer? I love some of the design, and it looks like they learned from some of Eternal's mistakes, but I'm still gonna wait and see how it lands and plays and what reviews are like before I trust it. At least there weren't any Marauders or obvious Mario-Maker platorming in the trailer.
Hope they keep the cringey "lore" and forced cutscenes to a minimum. Trailer initially seemed a bit meh but after a couple of rewatches it's growing on me. The "grounded" gameplay is intriguing as it implies there won't be any jumping.

This is my buddy's wad! I played every lvl on UV. It was a tough one and developed a new found hatred for Archviles. But good solid work, very well made, and another great appreciation to Doom. I'm glad you are able to help him out getting the word out for the wad.
Vytaan did a full playthrough of entire map set, and this WAD turned out to be really interesting to watch and the difficulty spike is tremendous - because it is not too insanely HARD like Italo Doom or Haste, but has such clever traps and fights. Absolutely loved this WAD, and really enjoyed Decino playing one of my favourite maps. I am hopefully going to try this bad boy myself soon.
Bofu is one solid mapper, and Dominus Diabolicus is a very good display of his smarts. The design on it, both for fights and secrets, is spectacular. To say nothing about the musical score, which rocks. I just wish he had used any texture set other than stock vanilla. I figure it was a part of he mapping challenge, and he puts them to work well in spots like the plasma secret or the spine organ, but by his point I'm sick of them and most of their combinations unless there's some primo lighting work at play.
I personally feel like most of the texture packs are a little overused right now, especially OTEX (which speaks to its quality and versatility, but it's started to feel like every project uses it now). As this was my first project, I wanted to limit myself to vanilla and mostly vanilla-style textures to show that there is still plenty of life left in these textures when used well. But thank you for the kind words! I will be expanding my texture library for my next project.
I watched vyttan playing the wad. This is really a very impressive map in the whole series. It is brutal from start to end. So i really enjoy your playing. Maybe you could try some other maps in the wad. It is very worth playing
11:05 did you just take out 4 imps with one blast? 38:00 surprised you didn't do the tactic of hitting all the switches, then going up the Blue Key stairway to sit by the organ to get everything to infight.
Guy not related but I wanna ask a question , I was playing Doom e1m1 and when I bumped into a random wall at the nukage pool and then the game teleported me to the e2m1 without an exist screen. I know there are no teleporters was there , but is accured, is this a bug?
You're using a WAD exclusive the Xbox version which has a weird secret exit in E1M1 bringing you to E1M10, but if you play on a port without that logic built in then it freaks out and sends you to a different map.
I don't think you are being fair to Doom 2 textures. While they are bound to certain themes, they are functional and fairly versatile. If the map looks like ass, it's really not the texture fault. Most popular texture packs are like 50% doom 2 recolors anyway.

When I saw that OST link in description I was like oh nice Midis, turns out they are not xD I personally have a massive archive of Midis from 25+ years of different Doom wads of various kinds and most all identified as well by source and sequencer. I love being able to expand my endless collection on midis...
@@decino Yea I know, I just usually try to find the raw midi file on the net first if at all possible, sometimes midis get a little bit messed up in wads. Eternal Doom was one of em with it's "MUS to Midi' converting, for modern wads this normally is not an issue.
There are MIDIs available as well! I won't link it here (YT does funny things with links) but there is a thread on Doomworld forums that has a link to a Dropbox folder with the midi files.

First impression was "meh" as I don't like what they did with Doom Slayer's design. Don't care for the dragons and mechs either. Visuals look a bit bland, but the enemy designs look top tier. The grounded gameplay is intriguing.

It takes a good mapper to give you secrets that make you feel smart when you figure them out.
The secret sequence at 16:36 is why I love a bit of secret hunting from time to time, so satisfying seeing the payoff of figuring something out!

That Arachno replacement sound sounds like a Starcraft 1 Battlecruiser laser sound.
I think that's where it comes from. Napsalm recommended it as a plasma sound, and I like it!
My favorite moments are always, when you look for the secrets, without cheating.

You can extract the MIDIs with SLADE, but it'll take a bit of work renaming the tracks and stuff.
