How do you pay the airport surcharge if using the metro to go back to the airport? If I still have rides left on the tarjeta multi. Is there an option to just pay the airport surcharge?
Tony thank you for this video. Im going back to madrid in march, then seville, then Valencia and back to madrid chamartin, then to the airport. Will also check out your video on combinados cercanias 😊
Hello, great videos you guys, Gracias. I am staying at the Hospedium Hotel Los Contess, Libreros 7 and am planning on taking the Train to Atocha. Can you tell me how to get to my hotel from there? Gracias!
Hi, if you're traveling with luggage, take a taxi or a ridesharing service. Otherwise, you could take metro line 1 to Gran Via and walk 10 minutes to your hotel.
Great video! I am trying to get to Salamanca from MAD. I just read that the long distance bus Avanza that went to Salamanca from the airport has discontinued this route as of yesterday. Can you advise on the best way to get to Salamanca from the airport? Thank you!
Hi, we've just answered a similar question of yours at the website. PS as far as we are aware there was never a direct bus from the airport to Salamanca.
Thankyou so much Tony…feeling a bit more confident now…but just looked at my booking and the terminal my plane arrives at isn’t mentioned..although it clearly states that I depart Manchester airport at terminal 3
Excellent videos! Well illustrated and detailed. One question, getting to the high-speed trains leaving from Chamartin from the airport. Presumably the advice for getting to Atocha is almost identical?
Thank you, I will be there in 3 weeks. Here I thought Frankfurt am Main is big. This one looks way bigger. My Hostal is close to the Station Sol. Any Tipps how to get best there? Thank you
Thanks for all your helpful videos 😊 I’d like to ask a question about the metro transportation for estadio metropolitano through line 7. I’ve read on the website that it’s currently closed. We will be attending a concert in the middle of july there so may it be opened until then.. thanks in advance for your reply😊
Thank so much for the excellent guidelines. I have some questions. We are group of 4 ladies with 4 luggages and plan to take taxi to Atocha station. Do we need a big taxi (4 luggages may be full size sedan or SUV)? How much do we have to pay extra? Where can we catch a big cab ? Is it the same queqe as a normal taxi ?
Hi Chamaree, you can request a larger cab, the price is exactly the same. If you arrive in T4, as shown on the video, there is a separate queue for those requesting large cabs.
Hi Tony, I believe there is a lot of modernisation taking place at Chamartin Station, are you aware of any pitfalls that may arise at the station because of it? I love your videos they are very helpful.
Hi, Chamartín is going through a major overhaul indeed, it's been going on for quite some time and will continue for some years. There are changes the whole time. Our advice is to arrive at the station with plenty of time.
Hi Dave, there is no direct transport to Toledo. You will have to travel to the starting point of whichever mode of transport you use. Details here th-cam.com/video/gLxpYH9m7HE/w-d-xo.html
This is so helpful! We will be staying near Puerto del Sol for one week. I'm curious if the taxi "set price" works in reverse from Puerto del Sol TO the airport? Or is it variable?
Hi Tony, thanks so much for all your informative videos. Can you tell me if there is taxi for 5 people at the Madrid airport? Or I have to take 2 taxis? Thank you!
Hola Tony, thank you for the informative videos. Quick question. My wife and I are traveling to Spain for the first time and will be taking Renfe AVE from Atocha to Malaga. Do we need a separate ticket on Renfe from the airport to Atocha or can we board the train from the airport with the AVE ticket?
Can you please guide me which transport I should take from the Madrid airport to Sagasta 22, City Center, Madrid? Metro line or Airport express bus? As I will be landing at Madrid around 12:30 am. Considering the late hours of public transport as well. Would appreciate the sequence you suggest and cost effective. I will be here for one day only so please also suggest me which transport card to opt for? Looking forward to your response.
If you are landing at around 12:30, chances are you'll leave the airport much later. None of the transports operating at that time of the night will take near your accommodation other than a taxi or VTC. Your choice of ticket will depend on what you plan on doing in Madrid and how you will return to the airport.
Hi Tony! Loved your video, very informative, super organized. Is there any video on you channel about luggage storage at T4 for the day? I have a 13 hour connection and wish to go out and have lunch in the city centre. Thank you!
Thank you for all your videos. Plan on taking train from Barcelona to Atocha station. What's the best way from train station to get to Thompson Madrid and then what's the best way from hotel to get to airport? Thanks.

From hotel to airport would be the same as from airport to hotel as described in the video when talking about the Sol and Gran Via region (your hotel is half-way between Gran Via and Sol).

Thank you Tony for another helpful video. We'll be arriving and leaving out Madrid and renting a car to head to Andalusia and the Algarve. Our outbound flight leaves at 6am. What area of town in Madrid do you recommend we stay at so it's easiest to get to the airport? Or would staying in a smaller town nearby be a better option? Thank you in advance.
I wouldn't overcomplicate things, I would stay near the airport. See our recommendations here: th-cam.com/video/e9Q0IIogvn0/w-d-xo.html You could return the car the day before.
Thankyou for such extensive information which was so helpful getting FROM the airport…terminal 4s… to the centre of Madrid. However, perhaps you could point out that if you are flying back from terminal 4s, your taxi will only be able to drop you at terminal 4, from where you will need to get the shuttle train to terminal 4………but what was so confusing is that you actually go through security in terminal 4….. BEFORE you can get the shuttle to terminal 4s. There was no visible information at terminal 4 that this was what you have to do, and it was very confusing . Thankyou
Thanks, Anne, we have a video on how to go from T4S to T4 where we explain all the services and access to both terminals is at T4. Once you get your boarding card, there are signs showing the way to your boarding area. All the best.
Your videos are paced appropriately and free of superfluous chatter. I really appreciate your efforts! We will be staying at Hotel Moderno, Calle del Arsenal 2. What transportation would you suggest we take? Our Iberia flight does not indicate at which terminal we will arrive. We are flying from Chicago to Madrid. We have carryon luggage and small backpacks. Thank you.
Thank you Sandra, we don't like to waste anybody's time! Your hotel is right next to Puerta del Sol (brilliant location), you can follow our instructions for Sol at the end of the video. Your flight will arrive at T4S. All the best!
Great info as always Tony. Question: we are arriving at T2 and going to a hotel near Atocha. The obvious choice would be the airport train from T4. But would it be less time to take a taxi from T2 to Atocha?
Can you please tell me if there's a direct line (metro, train) from the airport to Puerta de Toledo, or basically what's the easiest way to get to Puerta de Toledo? Gracias
No direct transport other than the taxi. The airport train will leave you at Pirámides and then you could walk 10 minutes (a street going up) to the square.
Hi Tony, Excelente info.
The fastest travel time is the train, check out the video. We haven't got a video ready with a reply for you but it you leave us your question for a Q&A video, we'll give you some ideas.
Excellent video. We are staying at Hotel Emporador. Can you please advise the best way to get there from T3? We will have only carry on luggage and are happy to walk where needed. Thank you.
Hi Stephen, it's not common for a flight to arrive at T3. But, to answer your question, you could take the airport train to Atocha and then free bus 001 (get off at Santo Domingo). You cannot board local buses with big luggage but can do so with carry-on luggage. See the video on the free bus th-cam.com/video/Zoq65l7zB_M/w-d-xo.html
Great video, it is really helpful but what is the cheapest way to go to station Callao or Sol? Some suggest metro + train, some only metro, some bus + metro
This is really very important info. Could you let us know whether thsi address(The Hat Madrid oCalle Imperial, 9, Centro, 28012 Madrid, Spain) comes inside M30 ? what will be Taxi fare in this case?
Good video! Also watched the free busses video which is very helpful. Questions about the train/metro combination. When you buy your metro card at the airport, which you will only use for a transfer after using the train, do you also pay the metro fee? even when you already pay the fee in your train ticket?
If you are not going to use the metro to leave the airport, don't buy the metro card at the airport or you will be forced to pay an airport surcharge you won't use. The train ticket does not include an airport surcharge. Buy the metro ticket in the city of Madrid.
Hey Tony & Cecilia 😃 i need your help! Next week i'm coming to Madrid for a citytrip and after watching your videos i'm not quite sure if i got it right... I arrive at T2 and need to go to Artiem hotel Madrid. i think i need to take the bus 200 but can i use a multi card on this bus? And where is the first machine to get this card? If i want to see the city center what is the best bus/metro stop near al the hotspot? Thank you so much! Greetings Joost from the Netherlands
Hi Joost, we assume you are traveling light, there's quite a walk to your hotel from the bus 200 stop. You can use the multi card on the bus, you will have to buy it at the metro station in the airport. Alternatively, you can pay the full fare with a contactless card when you board the bus. Your hotel is not very well connected by metro and is quite far from the centre, the nearest metro station is Barrio de la Concepción.
If I take metro from T1-T2-T3 to Tirso de Molina on line 1, is the fastest way is from line 8 move to line 10 at Nuevos Ministrio and then to line 1 at Tribunal station? Thank you in advance for the answer!
Hi Tony, thanks for the very interesting and helpfull video❤! Only one question: We arrive at T1 and the hotel is near Atocha. We would like to take the Bus 200 to Av. America and change to bus C1 because there is s bus stop (Reina Cristina) close to the hotel. Do we have to pay for each bus ride (2 journey's p.p 4x0.61), with the metrobus ticket (Mulit Card)? Thanks a lot! Chris
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugalUnfortunately, the various ticket machines (I was already informed by your videos) don't make it easier, as the machines directly in front of the (T2 Metro) escalator/stairs are programmed differently than the ones to the left of the metro entrance. The display above the machines is also confusing, as the multicard symbol is crossed out, which means that you don't have a multicard yet and therefore automatically need one (top up not available)! At the machines, you first have to choose where you want to go and then you're asked how many people (because of the airport surcharge). I was a bit confused because the user interface looked different (to the videos). I also didn't want to choose a surcharge, as I went over from T1 especially because we wanted to take the 200 (+C1) bus and I only wanted to buy the multicard with 10 journeys. At the machines on the left, when you go down the stairs/escalator to the (T2 Metro), you can select the 10 rides, but you always have to choose an airport surcharge (at least once, they are pre-programmed that way). But the price didn't matter (€3 airport fee or 2x€1.5 for the bus), as it was easier to continue with the existing multicard, I paid the 3 euros for the (unneeded) airport fee. That was the only problem, but it's not your fault (it's a problem of the operating company that absolutely wants to sell the surcharge, even if you use a bus)! In the end, thanks to your tips, we saved a lot of money, thank you very much!
@@chrisw3711 I seem to remember we mention that the bus is good for those that already have a Multi Card with credits, for the very same reason you discovered, you cannot buy it without the airport surcharge. There is a way to do it, a metro employee once showed us, but it was so complicated we couldn't possibly reproduce it here.
We are a family of 6 . Sounds like it will be less expensive to travel to Lavapiés by taxi then the Refu train line ? Is that correct ? Do they have vans to accommodate 6?
Also Would liek to know what is best and cheapest option to travel to Calle Imperial, 9, Centro, 28012 Madrid, Spain as we ahve only hand luggage but travellin with old aged parents so less walking is preferred, please suggest
So no airport serivce charge on renfe but there is one for the metro?? All Amanda and i want to do is go to neuvo Ministerious and back. Which train would be the cheapest?. Then again knowing me i might ride the metro out and the renfe back in. LOL. These are very helfpul videeos. I feel confident we will get to neuvo Ministerious and back with no issues.
Hello, can I access the city part of line 8 without paying the airport surcharge, i.e. if I want to travel within the city and not to go to the airport ? What would be the last stop so I would not have to pay it ? And if I need to use the combination of lines to go to the airport (at the end of my trip), e.g. line 9 and then 8, do I have to purchase the airport surcharge before entering line 9 station ?
You pay the airport surcharge every time you either board the metro at one airport station, or arrive at an airport metro station. You don't pay it anywhere else. You can purchase it at the airport metro stations.
Hello I want to know the zone in which my hotel is located..but nowwhere I am getting the map..or links are not valid in India..can you please share the find zones in Madrid..
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal I'll have to go back and check out that video. I thought I had seen them all. For a little bit, we thought the plane was dropping us off at our hotel. 🤣🤣🤣
@@peter_bazinet on that video we basically warn people making connections in Madrid of a series of factors that can impact on the available connecting time. One of them is taxiing, that can take an unbelievable amount of time. So, your flight might land on time, but you need to factor in 15 to 20 minutes until you reach your gate.
Hi I am from USA traveling to Madrid, I have a question, does the bus driver accepts a credit card for payment? How much is 1 way fare from MAD to Cibeles by bus (203)?
Can somone please tell me what to do if I want to get to Puerta de Sol from the Airport by train? Do I buy a Renfe ticket from the airport to Atocha and then buy another ticket to Sol? Or do I buy a Renfe ticket to Sol from the airport and use that to tap in and out to transfer?

Hi, may i know the best way to go from the International Airport to Calle San Agustín? Thank you
The best option, a taxi (33€ fixed fare) or a ridesharing service.
Great info as always Tony. Question: we are arriving at T2 and going to a hotel near Atocha. The obvious choice would be the airport train from T4. But would it be less time to take a taxi from T2 to Atocha?
Hi Kerri, definitely, the taxi or a ridesharing service would be much much faster.
Muchas gracias Tony.@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
Can you please tell me if there's a direct line (metro, train) from the airport to Puerta de Toledo, or basically what's the easiest way to get to Puerta de Toledo? Gracias
No direct transport other than the taxi. The airport train will leave you at Pirámides and then you could walk 10 minutes (a street going up) to the square.
amazing
👍
How can I purchase the 30 day pass for zone A? since I am going to be using the public transportation a lot. Thank you
Unless you are a resident, you cannot get that pass.
Hi Tony, Excelente info.
morning how long does it take to go from the airport to downtown and to comeback?
we have 8 hours in Madrid, where should we go?
The fastest travel time is the train, check out the video. We haven't got a video ready with a reply for you but it you leave us your question for a Q&A video, we'll give you some ideas.
If I take the Metro from T2 to Nuevos Ministerios and then transfer to line C-4a, do I have to pay a second fair?
You do.
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you. I just checked and we actually arrive from Dubai T3 at T4S. Would you suggest the same?
@@SteveS55 indeed.
Great video, it is really helpful but what is the cheapest way to go to station Callao or Sol? Some suggest metro + train, some only metro, some bus + metro
I will stay 5 days btw
Callao is along Gran Vía. You can see the options compared at the end of the video, both for Gran Via and Sol.
This is really very important info. Could you let us know whether thsi address(The Hat Madrid oCalle Imperial, 9, Centro, 28012 Madrid, Spain) comes inside M30 ? what will be Taxi fare in this case?
That address is within the M-30. The taxi fare will be 33€, as explained in the video.
is the charge of using the contactless card the same amount as the price we buy a ticket for train ?
Yes.
Thank you for your reply!

Greetings
Joost from the Netherlands
That's correct. But it will probably be faster and cheaper to take the airport train to Atocha and then the metro line 1 to Tirso de Molina.
Chris
Hi Chris, we assume you are traveling with cabin-sized baggage only. You will pay for each bus ride.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugalThanks a lot! Yes we only had a small bag (rucksack), we are already in Madrid❤.
The train will still be cheaper but being a group of six, I wouldn't think twice, get a taxi. See our point about large taxis in the video.
Also Would liek to know what is best and cheapest option to travel to Calle Imperial, 9, Centro, 28012 Madrid, Spain as we ahve only hand luggage but travellin with old aged parents so less walking is preferred, please suggest
Best is a taxi or ridesharing service. Traveling with seniors I would not consider any other option.
Does Apple pay (using iPhone) work when buying Renfre tix? My contactless chip card doesn't work (I always need to swipe it). Thanks.
Don't have a definitive answer for it.
Hi. We’re 4 pax with luggages. What’s the best way to go to Hostal Las Fuentes from the airport? Does any bus or metro stops near the hotel? Thanks!
Hi, a taxi or VTC.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal what’s VTC?
Explained in the video.
Hello, I can also purchase the Tourist Travel Card and use the Cercanias to travel from Madrid airport to City Centre?
You can. See our video on the tourist travel card and also the first comment fixed below the video th-cam.com/video/HJHUDy7pb_A/w-d-xo.html
Renfe much cheaper than the metro indeed.
can i go from madrid airport to barcelona
Indeed you can. See th-cam.com/video/lwcTToMfBxU/w-d-xo.html
Do i need to swipe card for 4 yr old for airport train from princep station
Non-resident kids from 4 years old pay the same as adults.
How to admit direct payment with bank card for the train? is it a regular credit card? Is it cheaper or more expensive using bank card?
Regular contactless bank card (credit/debit). Same price, we mention that in the video.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thank You for clarification
How long usually it take to go thru security at 8:00 am at t4?
Depends on the day. Anything between 5 minutes to 30 minutes.
Thank you so much.
Hello I want to know the zone in which my hotel is located..but nowwhere I am getting the map..or links are not valid in India..can you please share the find zones in Madrid..
Would be much easier if we knew the name of your hotel.
When we flew into Madrid in 2019, it seemed like we taxi'd for an hour before we arrived at our gate.
Yes, we've alerted about that fact in our video about flight connections in Madrid.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugalLuckily, Madrid was our destination so it really wasn't a big deal. I guess I was just anxious to see Madrid!!!
Hi I am from USA traveling to Madrid, I have a question, does the bus driver accepts a credit card for payment? How much is 1 way fare from MAD to Cibeles by bus (203)?
