As a native, you’re the one who highlights that big difference, you, unlike every other tourist, knows and probably finds out about the culture and know what the good places actually are. You’re the top one I’ve ever seen, honestly, I don’t usually tell this to foreigners. But you
Spanish cuisine is so good! The country is very beautiful too
You are so right
Its not bad.
@@crono102bueno, no es una mierda como el hiphop chill
Jjaajaja.
In Spain we have best food in all world. Both for quality and diversity.
haha , there is no such thing as best food, its subject to individual taste
@@LaszloGalffy Yes, the same food in England or Spain cause its subject, of course Laszlo lol
I prefer portuguese, but I'm bias... a lot is similar though :)
there are many countries with better food than spain
We usually put mayo or alioli with the calamari roll.
sounds better for sure, I'm portuguese and we don't do that sandwich but was surprised it was dry, has potential to be a good sandwich for sure
Finally normal food, that doesn’t need courage to try. :))
I love watching this type of vlogs reviewing spanish gastronomy. As a Madrileña this video contains everything a tourist should try and visit!!! I love your honesty about everything, it makes Madrid so charming. I love my country❤❤❤
That churro goes perfectly with chocolate, it looks so delicious!
Every kind of bread at laa de la bakala is very attractive, and I think I will consider for a long time before ordering it!
I really hope McDonald's can sell calamari sandwich in the future. It is more attractive than ordinary burgers. I will definitely buy it!
Casa Danny's tortillay will definitely be a hit in my country, it's perfect for breakfast!
Stuffed mushroom is what I wanted to try the most, I didn’t expect the mushrooms in Spain to be so big!
Whoever invented using two sticks as a tool for eating it must be a genius!
Thanks a lot for sharing, really great job as always! 👍🥰🙌
Thanks Gianni! Not sure McDonald’s will be serving calamari sandwich anytime soon 😂
@@LukeMartin It is my honor, thanks to you too!
If you become the CEO of McDonald's, we'd know for sure!
I wish you will be ASAP. 👍🤩👌
Yes as famous as Mark Weins is he's a bit of a cartoon character and I don't feel is authentic or honest
Too many food vloggers waste time and footage filming close ups stuffing their face and mugging for the camera. Luke mercifully avoids that. He also takes time to show parts of the place he's visiting, like his stroll through the park and Plaza Mayor. It gives us an idea of where he is, not just what he's eating. Madrid is a beautiful city and Luke shows us that there are other attractions besides good restaurants and cafes.
Thank you so much for noticing that!
I have ancestry from the Basque and Catalonia regions of 🇪🇸, so this video hits really home!! 🇪🇸 food is truly on another level!!
So cool!
So you are double time Spaniard! Saludos desde España.
After following Mark Wiens and Sonny for years, you are now my favourite because you don’t over exaggerate. Your reaction just an honest reflection of the quality and taste of the food, or not, when it isn’t…
Marks expression is fake.. he likes every food which he eats which I think is really not true..
@@ss-cc4ru That is correct. Sonny is honest always
@@pedrocodinacaceres7293. Si. Por eso somos el num 3 en turismo. Por la mala comida. 🤣🤣🤣

Sonny is honest too and shows the negative side of his trips, what are you talking about? Sonny is the realest one out there
Looks amazing.
tripe soup, it's so good, I love the Spanish specialty
Thank you for sharing another interesting gastronomic adventure, this time through the Motherland, Spain. The statue is of one of the Felipes. Nothing more Spanish than churros, tortilla, Iberian ham, wine and sangria. You must visit the Ham Museum, it is a very famous Restaurant. Enjoy Spain and Olé.
I’m heading to Madrid in two days! Thank you for the very timely and useful info😊
Have fun!
enjoy madrid, if you can you should book a free walking tour of the city, they walk you about for around a hour in a group and you give them a tip, say like 5 to 10 euros.
Everything looked so yummy ❤❤❤thx great content
Madrid es un bello lugar ❤
Luke and anybody else watching this master piece:
I'd be not even close to analyse that nicely the local food in Spain. As a madrileño I must warn you that, although Madrid has lots of good restaurants, several dishes are worth travelling a bit and having them in their different Spanish regions. I mean, the best paella you could have in Spain would be in Comunitat Valenciana(Eastern Spain), even though in Madrid you can find pretty decent places to eat in.
3:46 - As the diverse country we are, for instance, churros and porras are different in some places around the country, all of them as tasty as Madrid (except for porras, I guess).
6:04 I'm pretty sure what you had were anchovies instead sardines in La casa del Bacalao, if you want to have the best experience with them, you'd probably like Cantabria and Euskadi (Northeast Spain) , well known by their anchovies, codfish and different types of fish. Definately, if you are into seafood, like shrimps, clams, oysters, and octopus your place is Galicia (Northwest Spain), the real winners in seafood in Spain.
6:32 It was probably cheese, but it could also be a piece of baked potato galician style (cachelo), typically served with pulpo (octopus) and paprika. By the way, that what you called paprika is a special spice called "pimentón", a basis on Spanish cuisine, used all over the country and it could have a sweeter taste, or smoky or even spicy.
9:00 About that carb bomb 🤣 Probably one of my favorite snacks in Madrid, I'd recommend it to have it with a few lemon juice drops all over it. Others prefer to have it with "allioli", a sauce based on mayo with parsley and garlic, so savory and tasty but not for all tastes.
11:23 Tortilla is a big issue in Spain. Definately, Casa Dani gives one of the best. There is a national debate about having it with or without onion but also with the creamyness it has to be served. If you want to try a "rare" tortilla, barely cooked, you should visit Betanzos, a town in Galicia (yes, where the Seafood Masters lived).
13:39 Callos is one of the most typical dishes in Madrid, I strongly dislike it. Again, that sour taste (14:04) you noticed is the "pimentón" flavor (paprika). What I do really felt is your very Spanish way to dip that piece of bread within the sauce. We the locals know that as "hacer barquitos" (to build ships, as they "sail" the sauce)
16:09 No comments. You chose a nice place to have your jamón. You didn't fell on the tourist trap called Museo del Jamón. Not all Jamón is what we call "del bueno", meaning this as good quality ones. Greasyness is the thing, jamón del bueno is said to be sweating that grease, melting in yout mouth.
17:45 That is a fact. We the spaniards are late dinners, from 9 pm, and then if it is possible we stay late at night having our drinks or just chatting. Maybe Sangría is not so typical to be ordered by locals, as it might be considered like more expensive than it would be worth. Generally speaking, people prefer having a good glass of wine instead, just wine (you have loads of them: Rioja, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, Valdepeñas...).
19:30 About your veggies known as Pimientos del Padrón (again, located in Galicia, NW, remember, the barely cooked tortilla and the Seafood Masters). That peppers are said to be spicy or not randomly, as we say "unos pican y otros no"
I enjoyed a lot your video, thanks for visiting our country. I encourage you to come back and visit the rest of the country, you'd be surprised, I'm sure.
And if you took your time to read me until this very end, sorry if I sounded rude, that was just my humble opinion on that, but I didn't mean it to be so finicky.
Madrid es mi ciudad♥️♥️ And The food is one of the best things
Estos guiris ; verdad?😂
Well done! I loved the way you enjoyed the tortilla and callos. That’s it! Welcome to Madrid
The youtuber that I have been waiting patiently for since 2pm..... South Africa
❤
Thanks so much :)
I could litterally plan a trip to Madrid just to stay and eat at mercado de San Miguel. Last time I came back with 5 pounds of cured meat (pata negra, lomo, jamón iberico...) in my luggage 😋
Looks great! I might be going to Spain soon! I can’t wait to try the food!!!!
Have fun!
Your culinary event is very interesting...and your food choices are appetizing🎉😊
Thank you so much 😊
Love your vídeos! Man, you should also try the northern Spanish cuisine! From the Basque Country’s tapas, bacalao o txakolí (white wine) to Asturies with its cheese varieties, its cider and fish or meat and its stews… 😋 to Galicia and its seafood… you’ll feel diferent after that experience… try and tell us! Cheers!
It all looked amazing.
I like spanish and italian ham too. ❤ My favorite is salami milano. ❤
Spanish Bellota Ham is another level, I understand that people don't know it because it is a very expensive product and you don't usually see it much outside of Spain unless they are expensive restaurants, but Iberian Bellota Ham is literally another level in as for hams.
@@Torosentao That was interesting! I have actually never heard of it. Thanks for sharing.
@@Torosentao jajaja yes... is another level... is our food secret.
Bienvenido a Madrid! Espero que hayas disfrutado tu viaje!
Love to watch all the Luke food 🍛 🥘 🥗 vlogs
Dani’s tortilla is great, big size even the smaller one. I prefer Jurucha that is just across the street. I am from Spain living in Panama, my biased opinion is that there is not a better place as tourist in the world as Spain, huge variety in all regions, amazing history, nice cities, amazing food, good prices, great public transport.
To live, work and have family life in Spain is a different matter (low salaries, high taxes, super-expensive housing)…
You became half spanish when you mixed callos' sauce with tortilla, congrats bro.
Oooh, all the food looked delicious. Brings back fond memories as I got engaged there 8 years go. I lived in the Mercado haha
Did I watch my first madrid video of you years ago? Wow. Good to see you again. I've been to Spain twice since that video.
Peace from Toronto ❤
Tú si que sabes!
Finally you are in Spain!! Bienvenido 😏
Happy to be here!
@@LukeMartin hope you have enjoyed.. we have lots of beautiful places to see and food to eat :) should try Paella

Hi, I'm spanish and i'm surprise for the quality of the restaurants you choose. Usually turist may fall in "turist trap" and eat some bad quality versions of spanish food, but all the food you showed looks great. I hope you'd enjoyed the time in our country (I can see you did). Thanks for the video
shame he went to a french restaurant tho lol but the stuffed mushrooms did look nice
Apparently you are not from Madrid. The places he visited are the typical ones for "guiri" tourism. No Madrileño would go to any of the chosen ones. Not because they are of poor quality, far from it, but the atmosphere is totally "guiri" and the prices are adapted to their pockets.
@@relander6459 No, I'm not from Madrid. I'm from Valencia. I use to see "guiri" restaurants, that's why the quality of the food impressed me. Even if he haven't been to restaurants "for spaniards", I expected the quality to be worse.
I love Madrid, but im from the Southcoast. Never understand that crazy sandwich: bocadillo de calamares! Dont like that!
Whatever we have the Best food
That tortilla looked absolutely delicious man, but if you ever come back go to the north of Spain and try the Callos there. The stew in the one you took didn't look nearly as thick, sticky and honestly good as the one you'd find in a lot of places in the north (specially Asturias, tbh). They also cut them into smaller pieces which is more pleasant in my opinion. There's also varieties, specially in order to get a tick stew, adding things such as pig's feet, ear, snout...
yummy yummy 😊😊😊😊
You gave me will to try tripe soup. That's how good your food description is :)
Hope you enjoy
Wauuu.. esa tortilla por amor de Dios ❤😂
I loce the respect you showed for everything in our culture. I hope you had an AMAZING time here and you are very welcomed to come back anytime
Senang melihat videomu luke, salam kenal dari Indonesia, good luck...
Yummy 😋❤
One of the tapas at the beginning of the video was not a sardine but rather an anchovy
parma ham (presunto) with buttery cheese (queijo da serra amanteigado) and vinho verde, as we do in Portugal, would have been better :p you can try next time. Enjoying your videos so subscribed :)
Que bueno
Another ejoyable video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
7:45 Those are "calamares a la romana". Nobody ate them with bread until the 60s. Then, somebody in a bar thought that those calamari, which couldn't be well preserved for the next day (there were no freezers like we have today), could be "acceptable" in a sandwich for the hungry young people after partying all night for a small fee. And thus the "bocadillo de calamares" (calamari sandwich) was born. People liked it, and up to today.
A curious thing that maybe you don't know, no matter how much people from the outside think that sangria is a typical Spanish drink, practically no Spaniards drink it, only tourists do.
Yum
What you reffer as sardine is actually ANCHOVIES .The best quality is not as salty as the ones that come in a can . And PAPRIKA , is Hurgarian, more smoked and tangy. The octopus comes with PIMENTÓN ,EITHER SWEET OR SPICY .
Third comment huge fan from Pakistan....
The hot chocolate you got served the churros with isn’t a dipping sauce, but a hot drink on its own!
Madrid is the best city
Just so you know, in Spanish to “dip el churro” has a meaning on its own, so when you said to dip your churro I almost fell of the chair 😅

Madrid is beautiful. Great food and great scenery. Nice pedestrian friendly areas as well. The first time I had the chocolate breakfast was in 1967. I was five and had it with my grandmother in Barcelona. Great memory.
As a native, 10/10.
Buena
That tortilla looked heavenly. Where were the gambas al Ajillo?
Also very good!
Fun fact: "mojar el churro" is slang for sexy time here. I genuinely laughed when I listened to "dip the churro".
Is it for churros' shape or for its colour? :D :D :D
Tampoco.
luke i missed u strolling around street food in asia, hope u visit Indonesia or other around ASAP
spilling the mushroom-chorizo sauce onto the padron peppers is a sacrilegy hahaha, try them with a little piece of bread, that is the traditional way to eat them (bread gives the little sweet punch it needs)
Hade no idea you where in my city
bueno
In New Orleans they have a French Fry Po’Boy.
The calamari sandwich looked actually quite smart. The first thing I thought when I saw it was a squeeze of lemon and don’t eat the bread. Maybe the bread is used to soak up the oil. Was the calamari nice and tender? Or was it over cooked and chewy? It looked nice from here 😊
very tender and not too much batter! Definitely needed lemon
As a Spaniard, I prefer my churros dipped in sugar and then drink the chocolate separately. You said it looks like the Chinese version, that's because the original Churro comes from China. Ours is actually the Spanish version of the Chinese.
Yeah, and Italian pasta is the Italian version of Chinese pasta. Don't be ridiculous.
@@robert111k well, actually, yes
Hola, ¿que tal? Are you still in Madrid? I’m currently in Madrid. Love your videos

7:10. Got the ol’ stink eye.

The octopus is traditionally served on thinly slice potatoes, and I am inclined to be believe that is exactly what you got. So not really cheese. Generally speaking, Spanish cheese has a kick to it so distinctive that it would literally overshadow the octopus. The tortilla (that literally translates as omelette) is creamy not because there is any cheese in it either. It is not completely cooked, so it is the doneness of meats applied to omelettes. Quite a few of the classic Spanish dishes play with cooking times (extremely short or long) to achieve variations in texture and flavour. In any case, you do not need to know all these things to enjoy such great food.
You look identical to Marcello Ascani, an italian youtuber!!!!❤
How do you manage to not be overweight Luke? Must be difficult to manage eating all that delicious food!
Pukes it up afterwards 🤢
Because Europeans walk everywhere and eat amaller portions
Calamari sandwich as you call it is so much tasty if you eat it with a sauce called alioli, that is insane to me. Alioli is lika a mayonesse made with garlic. Spanish people like this mixture and also use this sauce for paella sometimes
😋👍
I love that Godzilla tracker hat shirt…. Omg where can I get that!?
Where did you eat that tortilla? I have to go. It looks sooooo good.. we, spaniards, usually discuss how tortilla is better cause some of us love the liquid tortilla and some others prefer it more solid. As we also discuss the fact of cook the tortilla with or without onions hahaha. It is really a topic to fight for us haha (not fight in a physical way or agressive, but like we can be talking and having a huge argue about it 😅)
omg the churros looked absolutely divine 😍Madrid looks so beautiful
They were and Madrid is gorgeous!!
I live in Madrid, but if you want the best food, go to either the very south or the very north of Spain
just an fyi... the creaminess of the tortilla is because or the raw eggs :) ingredients are: potatoes, eggs and onions cooked in olive oil in a special pan
That looks like tinto de verano, not sangria. But the food looks great.
