I watched another "master" talk about the "toes pointed down but Big toe pulled back and up " but he never really mentioned or Focused on the HEEL being important as you do. You explain very well. Thanks.
Remember the stomping on the ground. Chambering up before needs to remind of climbing over a fence. If that does not feel natural it must be the curse of Sega or Nintendo.😢
It's a request, please do upload more videos like this one, where you're pointing out the mistakes to be avoided while doing a certain kick, how it's form should be and everything about that particular kick. Please do upload such videos. Please please 😭😭😭
Thanks, I always appreciate request. I have done a video like this for front kick, side kick, back kick, roundhouse kick, tornado kick and hook kick so far. Check them out if you haven’t.
I have to do the step side kick for board break this Saturday 😭 my accuracy is not that great with the heel, your video really helps even tho it’s not step it shows that I should be turning my back foot
I've been studying TKD for over thirty years at this point and hold Dan ranks in ITF (Ee Dan) and Chung Do Kwan (Cho Dan), so this is my bread and butter. That being said, I started training in Okinawan Kenpo about 2 years ago, and get yelled at all the time because they teach their side kick differently. Their chamber brings the knee across the chest.
Hi love your channel! I was just wondering what belt you were? I have just never seen red in a black belt. You have helped my side kick tremendously thank you!
Glad you found it helpful! I’m a 5th degree black belt. The one I have has a Tang Soo Do style red stripe through it because I also practice those forms.
I damn like his like Oxford accent. Like Alfred from Batman serving tea ☕. Or like the voices in language recorded courses. Repeat after me: the pen is on the table. The side kick needs you chamber your leg ❤😂😂😂. Compliments from Italy lol
LOL! Ouch! Well, my question was serious and wasn't a troll. I know groin shots are not allowed in TKD sparring but your art was (and is) used in combat. The kick is fast so is the philosophy that a defender would not have enough time to hit the groin before the sidekick landed? Great video! @@tkdguide
@@ChrisMeece haha, sorry, I thought you were indeed trolling. The fact is, any attacking technique will leave some part of you vulnerable. If your technique is successful, it will be hard for them to counter it because it will have disrupted them in some way. If they counter your attack… well… that’s fighting. The better fighter is the one who can read the situation the fastest and respond the most appropriately.
I messed up. Got distracted and didn't pivot my right foot. I dislocated my right hip and herniated the L5 S1. 30 years later, I'm getting a hip replacement. Yeah DON'T SCREW UP THE PIVOT.
So please tell me how you can develop the balance to get in the chamber position. I'm finding that really really hard, I had/have an inner ear injury which affected my balance. Will I ever be able to correctly chamber? Thanks in advance from Fiji 🇫🇯🙏
I can’t speak to your medical condition, however, generally our bodies adapt to what we ask them to do. Keep practicing those chambers and I’m sure your body will make adaptations with time. Repetition is key. All the best!
3:30 cant agree wwith this. If you are really slow kicker then it makes some sense but if you are slow kicker you should kick at all. Chamberin more front will lead to a more powerful kick. When doing it fast chambering is good somewhere in between of these 2 examples he gives. But that someones going to attack you if you chamber to front, then you just suck and should train to be faster kicker before you even think about using sidekick in sparring/fight. He would better in mafia movie than MA teacher.
I'm glad they did. Otherwise, we wouldn't have your great channel here. And I do get lots of useful information out of it, which I am grateful for. Did Daniel teach you some Karate as well? The both of you would have had a good chance to defeat Terry Silver. @@tkdguide
Wow, good point. I used to think getting kicked in the head would hurt, maybe even knock me out. I’m not going to worry about that anymore. Thanks for saving me from my delusions.
This guy talks to me like im 5 years old and I really appreciate that
😂
Bro too true😂😂
One of the best material I have seen. Educational fun and to the point. Now I know better the importance completing the foot turn heal front.
For someone who's just starting off at 20 and trying to learn on his own by watching videos, this was really helpful 🙏

Just past my white belt grading last weekend and now learning the side kick. Man … it so doesn’t feel natural. Got a lot to learn
Congratulations! Yes, side kicks are very difficult.

I just discovered this channel. Hands down the best TKD content! Informative and detailed tips with spice of humor. Please do not stop posting.

Yeah I hear ya, I got in trouble for chambering my front kicks differently than they teach in Uechi Ryu Karate when I was doing that.
Love your videos!!!!
Thank you!
Thank you 😍
Definitely needed for poomsae 🙏

Check out tkdguide.com. The course on exercises has some great stuff for side kicks. It’s free.

Fascinating...
Why is the Side kick the most emphasized kick in Taekwondo? What is the historical reason?
Great video
Thanks!
I loved the like moment 😂

Ayy!
I'm doin' TaeKwonDo, ova heahh...!
Fuggedaboutit!
The Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels taught me how to properly side kick.
How do you protect your groin with your kick chambered so high?
Groins are for the weak. Just cut it off.

I'm sure it was, brother. There is a lot of annoying arm chair warriors out there.

Nice 👍
I got high kick hehe because i am balancable😊 but master jumpkicks are hard for me
I’m an orange belt. I tried this, and Immediately, side kicks became easier.
Didn't want to be a freaking piece of trash so gave you a thumbs up!! Haha, thanks mate, great vid
Appreciate it!
Very very nice 😍
Can I pivot at 135 digrees? I find it really hard to stay straight and balance at 180
I agree, it is difficult. Typically if you are talking Poomsae it should be 180.

7:25 with a little practice this is gonna Be the 1" side kick!😤
In reality where would you have the space to execute this kick?
There is no shortage of space in reality.
@@tkdguide you couldn’t execute that kick in a enclosed space like a phone booth for example, that is my point.
@@tkdguide a human being can cover distance in the matter of seconds would you be prepared to chamber and successfully throw that kick?

You're kicking out to your right, i.e side. But not in front of yourself. Confusing 😢
I’m sorry, I am not perfect. Is it really confusing?
