Created as a companion video to my series of CARTOON EVOLUTION videos (specifically the 'Evolution of YOSEMITE SAM - 75 Years Explained'), I take a look at the vocal evolution of Yosemite Sam as I compare all of the characters official voice actors over time, including Mel Blanc, Joe Alaskey, Jeff Bergman, Charlie Adler, Maurice Lamarche, Bill Farmer, Greg Burson, Jim Cummings, Jeff Bennett, Fred Tatasciore and Eric Bauza.

Maurice is probably the best post-Mel one of them.

And just like with Mel Blanc, Yosemite Sam was a strain on Maurice LaMarche's throat!
History repeated itself. Maurice actually had to give up voicing Sam because it was becoming a drain on his vocal cords as well. And it's kind of disappointing because he clearly had a ball playing him as long as he did. There's an interview or something somewhere where he talks about it.
Well he had a good run. That’s what makes this character unique
I remember that interview. I felt for Maurice as he really loved playing Sam even though it was rough on his vocal cords. He even arranged at a Warner Bros to record Sam on a Friday so his voice could recover over the weekend just like Mel Blanc did. He was my favourite modern voice for Yosemite.
I think there's a trade secret in the industry to voice all gruff characters so they can recover during the weekend. Maurice is one of my favorite VA's, and he has been in the business for quite some time. I'd rather him pass the torch for a character that keeps getting recast anyway than for him to have permanent damage. But he was a great Sam. My favorite non-Mel version of the character with Alasky a close second.
He also gave it up since WB changed his recording sessions to a weekday he could not do so he had to let it go
Apparently Mel Blanc struggled to voice Sam in his later years. He must the only Looney Tunes character he didn't voice all the way to his death. Blanc and LaMarche are the best voices for Sam.

Fun fact I have heard. Mel Blanc did Yosemite's voice in Who framed Roger Rabbit.
But since it didn't got the right touch, they put Joe Alaskey in for the voice.
And Mel didn't know, but was surprised of "his" performance. XD
Mel Blanc had serious heath problems later that affected his voice.

Maurice Lamarche is the best voice actor for yosemite sam
Damn, even voicing Sam can put a strain on the legendary Mel Blanc. So Maurice LaMarche isn't the only one who struggled in the later years of voicing this guy. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the reason why Eric Bauza isn't voicing Sam in Looney Tunes Cartoons.
I think the reason eric played him is because everyone besides Porky Pig, Tweety Bird and Sylvester Jr who are voiced by Bob Bergen are voiced by eric.

Maurice LaMarche been voicing Yosemite Sam for so long but Fred Tatasciore is voicing Yosemite Sam. And I like it. 😉👍

Everyone else did a great job; I just really like the ones up ahead. On an unrelated note, where's that Looney Tunes Rabbit's Run movie? That's constantly being left out in these Looney Tunes voice evolutions!
Thanks for this one! Yosemite Sam is one of my fave Merrie Melodies/Looney Tunes characters; of course, Mel Blanc's interpretation remains iconic.

Well in the second season of New Looney Tunes also known as Wabbit Fred Tatasciore's impression of the character in this show stinks it makes me wanted to bring back Maurice lamarche but it became a bit better in Looney Tunes Cartoons 2020 and making the voice bearable even though I'm wanting Maurice lamarche back.

I remember it airing on Nickelodeon in the US in the late 90s. And it aired for decades on Saturday mornings on ABC. It only left those networks after WB yanked it from networks they didn’t own.

Well its interesting seeing and hearing all the different people who have voiced Sam, I wish WB would be more consistent. Its seemed to have gotten better in recent years, but Scoob shows they still don’t really care.

Jeff Bergman is probably the most accurate to Mel Blanc, but I’d say Maurice Lamarche really made it his own and is (next to Mel) the first voice that comes to mind when I think of Yosemite Sam. It’s a shame he had to give the character up, but I can see why it would take a toll on his vocal chords.

Nothing against Jeff Bennett, the guy's a voice acting legend... but man, was he the wrong choice for Sam in Looney Tunes: Back in Action. He's way too high-pitched. Honestly, why didn't they just use Joe Alaskey? He was already pulling triple-duty in that movie as Bugs, Daffy, and Sylvester, what's one more?
