    I work in a musem that's next to a BMW dealership here in Croatia. The other day a truck delivered one in some super weird green color right from Munich. I managed to take a couple pictures at the end of my shift thinking i'll be able to look at it more tommorow. It was gone the next day. What a car, it's really a sight.

    From engineering/driving perspective, excellent vehicle I’m sure. But you have to get past the exterior design which looks too heavy/clunky from the front and the bolt-on infotainment screen looks like an afterthought.

    • @myemailiscool
      @myemailiscool ปีที่แล้ว +3

      everyone complains about the infotainment screen but let me tell you as an owner, i literally never think about it. it's just nice 2 big screens, high up in my line of sight. Never once have i thought "dang this afterthought ipad dash!", that's just an online commenter thing from people who have never once sat in a BMW with iDrive 8.

      I really like the front design. I don't think it's as good looking as the 4 series' vertical grilles, but I definitely prefer this look over BMW's past 7 series'. I've been a fan of pretty much all of their newer 'controversiaI' designs.

    • @flyboyflash3184
      @flyboyflash3184 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@myemailiscool Ya, we’ve owned multiple BMW’s…great cars. But the front end designed looks like the car from the original Vacation movie. And I get it, when you’re looking at the screens from the driver’s seat, it looks fine. But the overall interior design with bolt-on screen(s) looks like an afterthought for a six-figure car. Even the guys at the BMW plant near me say the same.

    Here in North America for the X5 you cannot de-select the glass/crystal controls, it is included with the 'excellence package' which is the only way to get the most comfortable massaging seats.

      What does this car really still do? High gloss plastic everywhere. Shitty massage seats. Tacky crystals in your interior. Super high price (€121.000 for the base version without options in my country).
      I ordered an Xpeng G9 for €77K. Massage seats that are actually good, in both the front and the back. Passenger screen like in a top spec Mercedes. Nicer looking interior. Better UI for the infotainment. Warranty that lasts more than three times as long. And still 550 horsepower and air suspension. Only one bit with high gloss plastic :-(.
      If you're buying the BMW you're really desperate for a badge.

    I prefer the Mercedes solution for the Home button, which brings you back to the overall main menu. I also like the actual control knob in my Mercedes for moving between functions so that I don't have to lean over to touch the screen. Not lazy, but using the knob helps keep my attention more on the road and not the screen. That control pad in the BMW is not tactical enough for me. Just my zwei pfenning!

    Thanks for the test, however i would have loved seeing you drive 180 kph on cruise control for a couple minutes and then tell us the exact consumption. As someone who drives 180 kph regularly with his Diesel on the Autobahn im very interested in that to see when i can switch to EVs.

    • @boogeyman423
      @boogeyman423 ปีที่แล้ว

      He said 260km at 180kmh, probably in ideal cases, not including winter, hills or wind. So about 1 hour of driving before charging. Also to consider how often one accelerates. Not the best car for this driving style, it's probably best to drive at 100kmh to get the most out of it's range. The tyres for this car will probably need to be changed every 5000km with this kind of driving style because of weight, instant torque hard acceleration and of course the high speed.

      ? I m talking realistic motor way speeds with traffic. And i also told the figures of consumption at 130 kmh and also at 180 kmh so what’s exactly wrong?

    • @beastlysun
      @beastlysun ปีที่แล้ว

      @@autogefuehl i was also speaking about realistic highway speed. Driving on "average" to simulate traffic is far from correct since you excluded acceleration and deceleration.
      Also when we were testing i7 on 130km/h cruise control (set to 137 as or was under reporting) we achieved 4.1km/kWh ... that is 23.8kWh/100km (driving on 100km stretch both direction without touching accelerator or brakes)

    Why do you push syntetic leather when animals get killed enyhow for meat?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment.
      You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at th-cam.com/video/S1aNZeoatmE/w-d-xo.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
      A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html
      And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: th-cam.com/video/6vXePQi_MAk/w-d-xo.html
      New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html
      More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html
      Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html
      For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html
      Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
      In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse?
      We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

      @autogefuehl , we respect your efforts as a reviewer! And know that you have been using the synthesized engine sound. Simply, for the benefit of your viewers the sensation of speed cannot be properly rendered without the synthesized sound. Yes, sometimes the speedo is visible but your viewers cannot understand the sensation of driving and acceleration. You are in the car you are reviewing and you are feeling this sensation but without synthesized sound your viewers cannot undertand if and how aggresively you are acceleting or decelerating.

      Yes & perhaps 1 day they'll learn enough from BMW to be globally available #1 full range premium manufacturers, BMW don't need frunk, they sell multiple 5 door EV hatchbacks, much more versatile, why do you think crossovers have replaced station wagons?

    • @vecernicek2
      @vecernicek2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unowen-nh9ov Crossovers have replaced station wagons because people have a vague feeling of safety when they're elevated. Also, there is a positive feedback loop: the more high clearance vehicles there are on road, the more people want one also, because of advantage of visibility and not getting hit by a taller vehicle in case of accident. Finally, majority of purchasing decisions are actually done by women and women like tall vehicles.
      If you ask me, I prefer station wagons big time. If you compare a station wagon and an SUV in the same class/category, the wagon is much more practical. Take for example Mercedes-Benz E-class wagon vs the GLE SUV. The E class is roomier and fits way more luggage. Also, much better to drive and better fuel economy.

    German brands like Mercedes, BMW and Audi who makes A series, 1 series and A1 respectively need to lower the price.
    Still thinking German efficiency and quality needs higher price is in the past.
    Comfort has been provided by almost all OEMs and with rise in EV, the legacy OEMs should be ready to change.
    But, Mercedes and BMW are having a very bad business model of having subscription which they themselves are planning to sabotage their brand name.
    This is also seen in Japanese OEMs, at the moment all people are focused on with EV, pollution and climate change.
    So, all are shifting to EVs and some developing countries are also started having their own EVs and when the charging infrastructure is available then there will be more EV buyers.
    Both for German and Japanese OEMs, now they have to make sure to create a good looking and efficient EV hatchback or mini SUV for an affordable price.
    Compared to new companies and startups, these legacy OEMs have a lot of cash so they could invest in prototyping a good car, but they seem to be money minded and provide a mediocre or an exoensive EV.
