On my holiday in Uberlingen ( from 🇦🇺) and I must say that im in love with new EV german cars. Saw i7 in Zurich last friday, it looked stunning!!! Will miss Autobahn’s 😢

That crystal is ridiculous - the glare is blinding even visible on the video - when did the slalom wheel changes. Another car manufacturer putting style over function - like the screens vs. buttons and #capacitiveBS.
I definitely think this new look BMW is going for is stunning. The thing that makes BMW's design so intriguing is the unique, or dare I say "ugly" look, but I think they have done this flawlessly, and hope to see more designs like this in the future. If you're paying over $300,000 (AUD) for a car, you'd want it to stand out, and this it does!

What happens when you have another car parked close to you when you have automated door open? Does it have a sensor so it doesn't hit car parked next to you?
On the part that the door almost hit the camera man, Isnt there a sensor to detect any obsticle while it is closing automatically?

Can’t imagine this design working in Europe. I think it’s meant to sell in China, Russia and Middle East. Possibly entertainers and youtubers in the US will be buying them.
No one but the worst type of person will buy this in the US market. It represents a garish lack of taste and elegance.

Why would you go for this M version, the standard i7 is already fast and is more comfortable.

It's quite unlikely that you don't have a mobile internet network in Portugal. Most likely BMW didn't bother getting a contract to connect the demonstration car to the internet instead.
I'll take a good ol' E38 over this.
Even the once heavily criticized E65/66 looks better compared to it.
Says a lot about how god awful BMWs are today.
Those reflections starting at 18:35, if directed to the driver instead of the camera, it would be very annoying, for sure, IMO. It requires a time of the day when the sun is lower, but still. Could street lights, at night be powerful enough to also cause them?
Yes, I also saw that and I did a feature on the reflections in our most recent i7 autobahn review, maybe have you seen that? It definitely distracts the driver when sunlight comes in, street lanterns, however, will not be powerful enough.

@Autogefuhl: I would like to ask based on your experience that the new BMW 740d 2023 model is better worth over the new BMW 520d 2024 model or not in terms of interior quality, driving pleasure, comfort, features, quality, feeling, value, service costs, warranty. We know that 7 series is more expensive than 5 series but does it worth to buy the 7 series over 5 series or not? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Not that the difference is justified by the price. What the 7 series offers is more Einsitzhöhe, means plusher seating when u take the same comparable veganza seat. in general the difference is not that large overall

However are you aware of the followings: in the BMW 5 there is no more seats with massage option, they removed a setting option in the comfort seats, the trunk is 10L less compared to previous model G30, the fuel tank is 6L liter less then the G30, the lower part of the doors is now just plastic which was not the case with G30 , there is no more doors with soft close, the light bar in the combustion engine models is not the same as in the electric version. That frustrates me very much. What do you think?
Yeah I understand and I criticize this as well. Then again, there are also some stuff that is cooler now. At some point they also want to keep a little gap to the seven series obviously.

I always thought the Mercedes 2 step window button that includes shade control was a great analog way to deal with window+shade
I agree the interior tech does seem to be over engineered and just there for the sake of adding as much as possible. Must be what BMW have assessed the buyers for this type of car want.
I love the acceleration sounds. Wow that’s how all high powered EVs should sound under acceleration and the rest of the time whisper quiet.
The i7 M70 marking makes it irresistible.
Those narrow roads frighten me. Anyway, there should be a way to lock the rear-wheel steering.

This 7 series comes just in one format, the longwheel base. There is no shorter version or longer version than this. This is the Longversion.
Why so much hatred towards the design? In my opinion, this looks way, way better and more exclusive than Merc EQS

I am not sure if I get the point of a M70 versus the base version. If the owner likes to drive the i5 M60 is probably more fun to drive. If the owner had a driver what‘s the point of a M70.

As good as the entertainment set up is with that screen, it will still never beat the Honda E with its ability to plug in a External device via its HDMI port. Like a PS5😊

This BMW screen does have an HDMI port. I just bought the ice version of this car and the first thing I did was plug in a Chromecast to see how well it works.

The design is polarizing. I see lots of hate for it, but I've driven Cadillac flagships for decades, and since Cadillac killed off the big car in 2020, I needed a replacement. I saw this ugly car and had to have it. I'm not ready for electric, so I bought the v8, and it's a beast! Incredibly fast, comfortable, and EVERYONE stops to ask about it because it looks even better in person. I've never wanted a bmw until I saw this car. Too bad that duracell color wasnt available for internal combustion. I really wanted it. 😊
I think bmw is on top of their game when it comes to animal free seat materials. Even though in this i70 it's animal only, bmw has been doing far better than competetors on high quality animal free interiors. I did not like this new 7 Series design language initially, it has grown one the more I see them on the road.

I strongly dislike the tendency of German car manufacturers to separate different motor versions into different models, each with its own suspension setup, silly cosmetic changes etc.
I don't need "sporty driving", my bicycle does fine for sports, thank you. I just want the strongest motor available. Everything else should stay equal.
Audi is worse in this regard than BMW with their S and RS models, which is one reason I ordered an i4 instead of waiting for the A6 E-Tron. No intention to pay extra for the RS nonsense. BMW also seperates into different models, but at least for the i4, the M version is mostly just a base model with many good extras added, with a comparatively modest price premium.
I hope you're not saying Rolls-Royce is the same just because you don't like leather.
The Premium manufacturers have more budget for their cars and mass production ensures better quality than the small luxury manufacturers. With Bentley and Rolls-Royce, you get a worse Audi/BMW each for triple the price

Compare that brick to the beauty of a long ago 3.0 CSL.....Sad, electric to BMW is a big cardboard box?
It's crazy to say that 660hp is simply not enough especially at that weight and with other EV's having 1000+ hp.
0-60 in 3.6 is plenty of power. Even my gas powered 760 will do 0-60 in 3.56 with boost and 4.1 without.
Gimmicks
Beautiful car. I hate the low bumper in the front. I have it that way on my Z4 M40i. I had a flat tire. And it was scraped at the dealer while they were putting it on the lift. And they fixed it. The cost was $2,345.00. And you have to be really careful while driving.
The bumper is not as low as you think. I parked mine just today over the curb and there was still a couple of inches of clearance.
EV's like these are just focusing in Europe, North America and China, after that they will struggle to be sold in other countries. Infrastructure is not their, their to expensive and resale value sink faster then a rock being thrown into the ocean and the consumer might not have patience to charge it (if the country doesn't have any electrical problems), also manufacture's lie about the range. And what about the technology being hacked or the vehicle being stolen, car manufactures still don't want to admit that their vehicles get stolen in less then 2 minutes with a laptop because of the keyless entry system. Now with even more enjoyment for bad guys the door opening automatically, a criminal will have the access codes even faster how to enter and drive away with it. They could just be a few feet/meters away with a receiver attached to the laptop, that receiver cost around or less then 20.00 US or Euro's. And just to finish of, the rear seat controllers, I hope they know that children seat in the back and their hands do get greasy when it comes to eating, so those control screens, they're going to look disgusting and I hope it's water proof or liquid proof of any kind. I'm not being negative but it's the truth and I'm car guy.👍

Touch screen for everything saves them the cost of manufacturing and run wires to each buttons. Gotta allow them to make the moneys. Don’t worry about the customers safety, they can afford to buy another if there’s an accident
really cool, but that TV is so dumb. It blocks the rear view mirror in an M sport car. How does that make sense? Why are they not integrating a rear view mirror camera to compensate. Such a mistake in design for a stupid gimmick.
That's my gripe. Cars 1/3 of the price of this car have rearview mirror cameras. I still wanted the screen, so I got it. I can't watch it when I'm driving anyway. 😊
Think of the positives. Electric powertrain means there’s no plastic chain guides to inevitably snap in half at 100k miles. BMW embracing the EV future and not just making the cars PROPERLY.

We all have our own opinions, but this car is hideous. Its an ugly beast, and I'd never buy an EV either. I'd rather have an ICE Mercedes S Class. BMW has lost their way for quite some time now. I don't think attracting attention is very intelligent in today's world. You'd be carjacked here in California in 2 mins driving this. It loses across the board with my taste Thomas.
Give me electric cars, and give me fast drivers cars.. But for the love of god.. Take away the computer from the car. !!! It's not supposed to be a gameboy..

But you can NEVER use the performance of these cars on UK roads & retain your licence.

5:43 That crystaline part and its lighting are one of the only two good things about this car, the second being that theater screen. Everything else is a downgrade compared to both previous 7-Series models and most of its rivals. At least they made that part look beautiful.

The world is changing rapidly, as the car industry also. Luxury has a different meaning than 15 -20 yrs ago , we can see that with all premium car brands, I am 35 yrs old , and I am so thankfull that i could enjoy cars in their most interesting era , for me that is late 90s , to mid 10s. And now we have this , technology wise , perfect car , but so cold , no emotion , i dont care for electric engine in such a premium car like this . Every car that appeared in last 2 yrs has nothing that would impress me , it is all the same , hi tech interiors, big screen in the middle , stupid and dangerous LED interio lighting, no physicall buttons . I dont like the direction BMW is heading. It looks perfect for Chinese market , bling , bling , bling , lot of cheap looking bling
