    I too had the straps rip off my bar bags during my GB Divide this summer. My repair failed and so I bought toe straps to hold it on.

    I have just bought my first e bike after my heart attack and tour from b and b, motels etc, , this way I can charge the bike, and have a good meal. I can get get a range of 60 miles and its enough for me! I really like your no nonsense sensible approach to riding. Thank you.

    Thanks for the video and follow up on your awesome ride. I must admit I’m softer than you! I would miss a sleeping mat to stop losing heat into the ground… and I would miss my stove and hot drinks too.

    Great post! So glad to see you still using the Alpkit Soloist. Most folk seem to use £300+ tents and treat them like precious things. Which I suppose at that kind of money, they are!
    Whereas you; more practical than most; use something a third of the price and at similar weight; it still gets the job done just the same! Excellent! I do like these kit posts!
    Take care buddy!

      @@kc3718 Keep ur hair on! Yeah, totally agree, if you're doing that kind of travelling; or if ur camping at high altitude; or in exposed places.
      But for weekenders in this country or a couple of weeks in the lake district..You dont need hundreds of pounds worth of tent. There's a lot of snobbery around equipment these days.
      I am interested in Mount Everest and the pre 2nd world war expeditions. And you know what tents they had?
      They had canvas bell tents, with tie up doors and wooden poles. They used them over 20,000ft up the side of Everest.
      Look at the tents Scott used, or Shackleton! The equipment used before ripstop, before goretex, before sil nylon, or dianima!
      Did the pioneers at the forefront of expeditions, of discovery and adventure; not go anywhere, a bit windy, or a bit high, or a bit cold!?
      If your equipment has limitations; then those limitations can be extended by experience and knowledge and skill. And not to mention backbone and balls!
      The choice of where to pitch; the skills in tensioning the fly and guys; an understanding of weather and using natural features to your advantage.
      This guy doesn't ponce around! His tent is merely equipment; somewhere to sleep, to rest. He picks his sites well and gets the job done; with no fuss and fanfare!
      Like I said previously, there's a lot of snobbery around equipment; and much of that is just folk falling victim to marketing.
      You dont need a Hille-watsit-burg or an X,Y,Z-mid to cycle camp in this country. Lot's of folk cant afford or justify that kind of money.
      Does that mean they dont step out of the door without a tent that costs hundreds of pounds!? Can only rich people have access to the outdoors!?
      You buy what you can afford and you learn and gain experience. One may change equipment to better suit the challenges and needs of a chosen pastime; but it doesn't have to cost the earth.
      Modern equipment is fantastic and leaps ahead; in comparison to the stuff available when I started camping.
      The Alpkit Soloist is an excellent little tent. Is it perfect? No! Does it have its flaws; due to compromises made by the manufacturer; in order to keep weight, pack size, and price down; to complete in the marketplace!?!? Yes!
      Could someone with skill and experience utilize this piece of kit (because that's all it is) and participate in whatever their chosen outdoor activity is? Yes, of course they could; and do so!
      As this chap does! And If you would need to spend four times the money to do the same thing; then that's your choice. Perhaps you lack the skills; that's alright, you will learn, by the doing; as we all have to!
      But as to your statements; it sounds an awfully lot like someone who believes all the marketing; or the justification of past expensive purchases made; and perhaps a hint of elitist snobbery. No offense meant!
      Instead of encountering folk to get out there, and make the best of what they have; learn, and most of all..enjoy!

    A very minimal kit, i tend to carry a few more luxurys, i like a hot mug of coffee in the morning but the extra weight is a drag. Great chanel josh love it.

    Hi thanks for the informative videos. Have been wanting to get into bikepacking for a while and am opting for a Camino Ti soon. I'm a novice when it comes to gravel groupset options etc. so just wondered if anyone has any words of wisdom as to what to go for Re specs? Realistically I'd like to use this bike as an all-rounder so would be on road as much as gravel. Cheers!

      I don't really want to go in that direction with the channel, its about the adventures, not the gear. Dont want it to be one giant add which is what it would end up like.
      Im only really happy reviewing/testing something I personally have bought myself

    Perhaps a bit of a rude question but if I may ask, how much were your expenses for the whole trip, roughly? Not counting going back and forth with the train, that is.

    What tyre pressures do you run on off road bikepacking trips? I've noticed recently the trend is very much towards lower pressures. Thats ok for off -road but on tarmac it just makes the bike feel annoyingly sluggish. Frustratingly, tech specs on bike shop websites rarely include max pressures. I recently purchased a pair of continental 700 x 35's which have a max of 85psi. They are perfect for me but i worry they may be last of a dying breed.

    • @KeepSmilingAdventures
      @KeepSmilingAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Smaller the tyre higher the pressure typically, couldn't say what i run them at 50mm tyres i think like 35psi maybe 40.
      I wouldn't be running tyres at the max tyre pressure though

    Ohhh, rear mechs are such a pain! I'm curious what your opinion would be on the Camino running a Pinion gearbox and carbon gates belt? How much would the extra ~1kg ruin the ride experience for you on this type of trip? I run the Ribble Gravel Ti but those vulnerable derailers always seem to pack up part way through a trip. Perhaps the pinion could be worth the peace of mind to not get stranded?

    • @KeepSmilingAdventures
      @KeepSmilingAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont think the cost outweighs the cost of the odd rear mech every couple years tbh. And it's normally the cage that gets broke so you can just carry a spare cage if you really were worried.

    • @robertwilliammayers
      @robertwilliammayers ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeepSmilingAdventures ya true about the cages. I was more wondering if you thought running the heavier pinion gear box (about 1kg) on the Camino would still be a decent ride - purely given the extra weight?
