Really good comparison, there is not too much content like this. I am surprised, I thought that the Plus bike might whisker it, but as you say, depends on the terrain. I have the BT ADV Plus and a Rolhoff Shand Stoater - both different bikes and I utterly love them both. I am 'pained' to let either of them go, but 'if' I had to keep only one I would probably keep the ADV (I hate to say it, cos its so dammed close) but, for me, I think the Plus tyre gives so much grip, I feel safer, and so much plush and comfort, that not many other bikes can achieve, due to the pure physics of bigger wheels, I reckon I would have to go this way... Similar to you (changing to 2.6) I have bought a pair of top end carbon hoops (34mm internal rim width) and I will step down to 2.6 maxxis, due to lack of 3.0 and I should imagine the wheel and tyre weight drop should be really significant to the ride... we will see. I even considered putting drop bars on the BT as I am in between sizes etc and I could fit in some top tube 'stretch'... basically loads of options for me on the BT frame. I do love my Shand Stoater though... 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Just got my camino Ti last week. Good value for money, especially on bike to work scheme and 10% in vouchers from Alpkit on top. Can't go wrong for that price. Cheers for vids. Sheffield.

Interesting, and quite expected. I have the Sonder Camino Ti and a titanium 29+ bike (Pässilä Kytö) pretty similar to the Bombtrack and would choose the bike entirely according to the terrain. Lot of road -> the Sonder and lot of singletrack, which tends to be quite technical where I live, -> the Pässilä. This gies both for loaded and unloaded bikes. Both bikes are excellent, but I think the Camino still is something special.

Surprised how good the bombtrack was. Might be my next bike.

Good comparison . I think I would choose stability safety and comfort and go for the bombtrack if its only a seconds in it. I guess if cycling on long roads or South downs way the gravel or slimmer wheels may give a much bigger advantage , there's a time trial test for you SDW 😅though chalk a bit slippery this time of year 🙂.
Ps I only have mtb and currently on whyte with 27.5 2.8 . So I'm biased 🙂

I'd be really interested in seeing this again with your narrower tyres on the Bombtrack .

Nice video and lovely bikes you have! I was considering buying the same Bombtrack to bikepack in the forests and beat the harsh Finnish winter. I ended up getting a Kona Unit because of availability but I sold it because the size was a bit too small. Furthermore, I'm a dropbar thin guy and I don't fit well on modern wide MTB handlebars. How do you like those Jones?

Had the same issue with the bombtrack no one could give me a timeframe of when i would actually be able to get one then got very lucky and someone was selling one in my size. I like them for how i use this bike i made i video on them a while back, They can take a bit of getting used too.

Great video. I have 2 questions:
    Which was more fun?
If you HAD to give one up which would it be?

      Basically impossible questions 🤔
The bombtrack id say is just more fun off road knowing that as long as you are brave enough there isn't really anything it wont handle.
But i'd have to keep the sonder as it also doubles up as an ultra distance road bike too. And i know off road i'd ride it over most things but just live with the fact that i will probably have to do more hike a bike.

i had both the Beyond ADV plus than the titanium sonder camino. they are completely different bikes. first one is a monstercross and second is a gravel bike..similar but different. depend what you are looking at..;) Beyond is very comfortable but slow, the sonder is fast, comfortable but not like beyond.

Nice upload. I would have thought that gearing (particularly front ring size) would be as much a defining element between bikes as tyres and geometry?

Probably would be a factor on a different course with long pedalling descents or steep climbs this course was pretty flat

Nice comparison - I would have also been interested to see the same test but loaded with the kit you would take on a trip. Especially if your standard kit list is different. It could have been even closer than 22 sec?

i considered doing it loaded but it was quite time consuming to film this as i needed to ride to the course, ride the route getting the b roll, then ride the timed route. Then go back home and switch the bikes and do it again. I wanted the rides to be the same day to get the fairest weather conditions and with there being so little daylight time wasn't on my side

Not a massive difference about 42 mins over 60 miles if similar mixed terrain.

In other words: If you’re racing go with the gravel bike. If you’re just riding, each bike has it’s ups and downs, so do your best to match the terrain.
I would probably pick the rigid 29er with 2.6” tires---oh wait--I have one of those😊

    Grand comparison. Thanks.
Can I ask where you purchased the Bombtrack from, please? I can’t find this model in the UK
