    Awesome result Joe, I followed your Tour Divide progress the whole way, and have been keeping an eye on you since March. I'm one of the three hooning geriatrics who flew past while you were grinding up the McKenzie Pass on your way to cleaning up the Sounds to Sounds back in March, we were doing our own comparatively gentle stroll from Bluff to Nelson. You're a huge inspiration mate, congratulations from NZ!

    • @joe.nation
      @joe.nation  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the support mate, yip I remember your crew well, was envious of what looked to be a support car 👌

    • @musicman53
      @musicman53 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@joe.nation Yup, my wife was driving the support car, plus we had good meals and accommodation every night, so we had a total blast on our random back country route north. A bonus was we passed and sometimes chatted to heaps of Sounds to Sounds maniacs plus a bunch of cheerful Te Araroa walkers who after 2500km "only had 500km to go". Back country NZ is awesome!

    Thank you so much for sharing your hard-won tips and tricks; these represent an immense amount of experience that we won’t have to suffer through to get the benefit of! Sleeping in pants and booties is brilliant, and the quick release bags are slick, but there is so much more to appreciate in the details of what you have shared. Were you mixing your drink in the bags as you filled them, or did you have another way to use your powders? Great job, well done!

    • @joe.nation
      @joe.nation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot! Great to hear it is useful to you. The only drinks I was mixing was the occasional protein shake at night time, which id shake in a water bottle. For electrolytes I had salt tablets, which mean no mixing needed 👍

    Nice job!! Looking forward to the gopro footage!! Was the main advantage of electronic shifting the fact that you can shift from 2 different places on the bike, which I think is brilliant, or...? I believe one of your competitors had a real problem with his electronic shifting. As someone who's never used it it seems to me like you open yourself up to a significant point of failure. Just curious.

    • @joe.nation
      @joe.nation  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeh the failure of electronics is scary, hence buying the spare charger and having 3/4 batteries. But I reckon it's worth it for being able to change gears on your aero bars, and also minimise nerve damage over 5 day plus races that I have gotten in the past by overuse of ny thumb and a cable

  • @petesjk
    @petesjk ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You mentioned scratching your suspension fork, do you mean your stanchions got scored from all the mud, rocks, dirt, sand, etc? I can see how racing the Tour Divide would wear on a fork, when I lived out there I found the old school stanchion boots were useful for protecting suspension forks.
