He was good live back in the day there was no greater party than a Van Halen concert back in the 80's. I think people may be referring to years later when he may have lost something vocally.
You're right it's all the nuances in the music that make it great and you're picking up on all them that's kool 😊 harmonics false harmonic & picking techniques 😊
God bless you for this journey. This is like grown up Van Halen. My daughter used this song for one of her dance recitals. It was beautiful watching my girl do ballet to a rocker. ✌️❤️ from Ky. I know what you mean bout this song. It just makes you feel something good.
David Lee Roth is a legend for a reason. He was amazing live and in concert in his prime. In fact, nobody could touch him back then. The entire band was on fire and they were a steamroller engine on stage that demolished all the competition in those days. No comparison. Unfortunately, nothing that good lasts forever.
Regarding Diamond Dave. I saw him on every tour they did and he was phenomenal as a showman. I would never consider him a great vocalist but MAN he was fun to watch. The lingering string is the sustain on Eddie's guitar.
5:10 - That sound you're picking up is actually Eddie-- he's doing that little tapping thing he did in the Eruption solo after the Meanstreets intro. It's just more mellow in this song. He does it right after the solo too, during the little delicate bridge before the outtro. He does the same sort of thing in the intro to "Women In Love..."
"Dance" was very often used for "sex" in popular music from the 40's to the 80's. And Dave could sing, but sometimes didn't try very hard. Or was often drunk/wasted and couldn't sing. He'd just dance around and let Ed and Mike sing. The US Ferstival in '83, where they set the Guinness Record for highest pay for a performance, was considered one of those nights. Everyone was drunk. Dave the worst. But they still pulled it off - kinda. Love your channel, Mugster! Check out "Dancin in the Streets" from the US Festival sometime. That song is a cover of Martha and the Vandellas, a Motown act from the 60's.
Live he was more focused dancing and just being David Lee Roth. I like to say David Lee Rath was Britney Spears before Britney Spears. If you haven't watched the 1983 US Festival show you will see what I mean. I saw them in San Francisco on that tour it was a great show.
It's a lot of that, and more of him just being more of an MC rather than a lead singer. His focus was on the spectacle-- running around and dancing, interacting with the crowd... He'd just not sing parts of songs, or throw lyrics around without trying to hit notes... From a musical standpoint, I get why Eddie and Alex would be frustrated with him. But I can't imagine what those shows must have been like in the audience-- what a party! Edit to add-- His kind of creativity works in the studio because you can do multiple takes and capture the lightning.
Dave wasn’t good live because he chose to emphasize the showman more than the singer. He goofed around too much. Missing lines and neglecting the song.
According to Alex and maybe Ed, this was written about a girl they had seen in the parking lot doing things with her boyfriend in the car and then she came in the club and was drunk dancing, not a care in the world (with her pants on backwards - )
He was great in 1978 when I saw them live.
he was great live, I seen them more than once,

I saw him live '83, he was amazing!!!

Roger Daltrey did.
My favourite Van Halen song especially playing it on real guitar, Hard to make it sound so sexy and deffs get's the girls going!
My favorite song by them.
If ever you find yourself in a down mood put on the head phones put on some VAN HALLEN & CRANK IT you'll see what I mean😊
Reggae riff solo. When they did this live in the later years it was something else ❤ tap harmonics Eddie is the master
My fave VH song is " mean streets"
He was the greatest frontman of all time, he’d just forget the lyrics sometimes. But believe me, you couldn’t take your eyes off of him.
Dave was one of the best front men EVER....

VH was badass live
Rock ‘n’ Roll goes back to being slang for sex.
All of the screams are Micheal Anthony, the bass player!!!

When your one of the greatest front men of all time you do just fine live😎✌
*you’re
Man U gotta check out Motley Crue! U gotta do the album streams tho! I’ll be there if so!
It was impossible Not to hear VH and eventually Def Leppard everywhere.

Dave was great live (when sober)
It's a feedback driven tap harmonic.
Someone said it's a cover; it's not. The band VH wrote it.
No bad hooks on the first 6 albums.
Whats with the rereleases, did yt delete your originals?
Not true DLR was great live!!
I saw Van Halen live in 1982.. in Baton Rouge.. 2nd row.... they were phenomenal!!
David Lee Roth was not a great singer but, one of the best front men ever!
1dst show ever VH 1984. david fucken rocks. it about sex:/
He was too drunk to be great live. Plus, his style of singing isn't easy on the pipes.
I love VH, but no one comes close to the real kings - LED ZEPPELIN.
Two completely different bands
Nope!
HE WAS GREAT LIVE BUT TALKED TOO MUCH AT TIMES--GO WATCH THE US FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE
You clearly don't know how to perform Live

In all fairness this is a cover tune.
This isn't a cover. They wrote it. You're probably thinking of Dancing in the Streets. That was a cover.
According to Alex and maybe Ed, this was written about a girl they had seen in the parking lot doing things with her boyfriend in the car and then she came in the club and was drunk dancing, not a care in the world (with her pants on backwards - )
5:19 that's a harmonic.
Its all harmonic right hand tapping on the chimey stuff. You tap the note 12 frets higher than where your left hand fingers it.
