VH couldn't have been as successful without every one of those guys doing exactly what you just heard.
Michael Anthony had THE best backing vocals in rock. PERIOD.

Pay attention to how locked in Eddie is with his brother, Alex on drums. And Michael Anthony on bass is always so overlooked for what he contributed. His high background vocals along with Eddie's really are part of what makes up the Van Halen sound.
Alex opens up the ending by just switching to the ride cymbal.
Time has proven Michael's worth. Any music fan worth a grain of salt recognizes Anthony's contributions.
Van Halen’s road manager wrote in his book that he thought Michael Anthony was a subpar bass player. He couldn’t have been more wrong. His bass lines are so strong and glue together Eddie and Alex’s playing.
I always thought that Michael Anthony should have taken over lead vocals when Roth left. That idea was probably shot down because of the show. They wouldn't have been able to put on as great of a show without a separate lead singer.
I did an oral report in English about Van Halen freshman year.... the teacher was so pissed I always was doing everything on music lol, but I got an A!! She also told me she appreciated me picking a topic that kept the beastly classmates interested & not wilding out over boredom!😉😀

My first concert was Van Halen, September 19th 1979. This album had just dropped yet but they played most songs off it. Grew up on this stuff. Great reactions you guys, keep it up!

Ahhh, this brings back memories of warm Summer nights, sitting in my room with the lights turned down and the radio on blast. Van Halen was the ultimate windows open, full-speed down the highway music. Even now, if I close my eyes, I can almost feel the wind in my hair and I haven't had hair in decades! LOL Love you guys, look forward to your videos every day. ❤
....when VH wrapped up their debut album in 1978, I always remember that they had enough tunes ready for a 2nd album!! And .... VH2 was released not long after!! Maybe less than a year... So good!! And is it the "cowbell" of dance the night away...the harmonies...the drums & guitar. Dave's swag?? All good on this album!! Beautiful Girls might b what you're thinking...but also: Somebody Get Me A Doctor is a goosebump shred!!!

Yes, defined teen years and more. First saw them at a back yard party in 1974 and many times on the Strip late 70's early 80's.
Alex Van Helen(drums) is just as key to their sound, flow as Eddie ... Michael Anthony(bass) vocals and some of His bass riffs .... DLR shreaks are unmistakable. Good pick
Michael Anthony was such a huge part of that VH sound from day one. Such an amazing vocalist who's harmony skills and styles are so cool. He still works with Sammy, actually has been in a few bands with him.

Great observations on the drums and backing vocals. Terrific performing and producing on this track. I also like the very subdued guitar lead solo but the really kick ass rhythm guitar with the singing.

Like many when they arrived on the scene, we knew this was special. If you never played air guitar before Van Halen, you learned. The variety of music they've given us while remaining true to themselves is amazing as well. I love Dance the Night Away and can throw on Mean Street and be right there as well.
I'm one of those 80's kids whose life was defined by Van Halen. Every one of their songs transports me back to another time, when I felt On Top of the World. So many great VH songs for you still to do, but next, you should check out Cabo Wabo...You'll both love it!
1978 1979 Great time to begin ones teenage years. And to enjoy life itself ! My first year in high school was 79. Van Halen and to a lesser extent Rush. Were in the forefront of active bands. That was the soundtrack for many of us. In our high school years !

When I think of VH I always think 1984 because that album was their pinnacle, Jump, Hot For Teacher, Panama, and I'll Wait all being iconic awesome songs!! The rest of their run was a bit early for me growing up, I missed it, but songs like this are gems too.
In 1984 I played in the california bowl for UNLV with Randall Cunningham when the last few seconds was coming to end I was on defense as free safety and was doing my Eddie van halen kick on the field haha my nick name was Eddie Rock given to me by coaches and newspaper writer lol . I luv van halen it was my prime year memories memories....

Guy's! Saw VH 6 times. Would camp on the sidewalk for days before tickets would go on sale so I could be up front. All with Dave! He came out to start the show and smoked a lil something with me. Then went into this song. NEVER STOP DANCING! Life is meant to be lived.

Paul is right. GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS is Motely Crue. My #1 son could nourish himself on Van Halen music. They were brand new when I was in college (I am no longer young). "You Really Got Me" Really got our positive attention! It is a cover of an old Kinks song!

Every song by this band is GREAT! No doubt about that! I went to several Van Halen concerts and everybody left with a smile on their face!! Man they had it all - I feel the best band that there ever was!!!

You two should check out TRANS SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA. They start touring around this time and tickets should be on sale in your area soon. It is a great show with lots of PYRO and guitars, right up Jay's alley. You wont be disappointed, check out their website for more info. P.S. it will be loud.
Agree, you two would LOVE this show. We've seen them 3 times and they never disappoint. Even played a Led Zeppelin cover once, sounded fantastic.

3 days ago I was messing around on guitar and came up with a really excellent riff. Started figuring out a solo over it, but at some point I thought "this sounds familiar," which is always a crappy creeper of a notion to have while you're writing music.
It was the opening riff of this song. SadBen.
My soul just soars whenever I hear this song! Rock and roll is about feeling young, felling alive and feeling like you’ll live forever! And Van Halen does this for me!
The story behind this song is as epic as the song itself. Back in the day when VH was doing clubs they were playing a gig at the Whiskey-a-GoGo and there was a girl who spent most of the show dancing right in front of the stage. During the show the girl left and the boys could see her through a window having sex with a guy in a car parked outside. When she returned she walked up to the stage and just kept right on dancing…with her jeans on backwards. This song is about her. 😆
Probably in my top 10 songs. After all of these years it doesn't get old. Great workout song as well. Good review, great vocals, great backing vocals, great drumming, great guitar.
The drummer is Eddie's older brother Alex Van Halen, who is often overlooked but is excellent. The backing vocals are the bass player Michael Anthony hitting the high notes and Eddie. It is really difficult to explain exactly how big Van Halen was back then.
They did a great scene in the movie “Red Planet” with Tim Robbins in weightlessness atmosphere
You guys are cute! LLOL. I have never heard anyone refer to Alex VanHalen as "the drummer"! You guys got this, you will spend the rest of your lives going through and coming back to some VH from ANY era. Even with Gary Sharone they had at least one great song off that album, "Without You". PLEASE DO "Right Now" next! 🙏🏻
1984 at Myrtle Beach, SC we cranked this song as loud as we could on the beach and had everyone jamming out and dancing who was within earshot.
Van Halen and AC/DC are probably responsible for the majority of my hearing damage, lol. Can't help but crank it up to eleven on this song!

Haha, yep - I went to a Cheap Trick concert that did that to me. A friend I went with, who was a far more experienced concert-goer, brought out a pair of earplugs just before the show started and jammed them into his ear canals. I thought he was dumb at the time... but now I realize that was me.

Loved Van Halen back in the day, and this is probably my favorite song by them. Sadly, I never got to see them live, as I would have loved to see Eddie play live. I did see Dire Straits live back in the 80's, and got to see another guitar god, Mark Knopfler play in person...and let me just say I'm still in awe of his mastery of the craft. He's a totally different kind of player than a guy like Eddie...not all the crazy riffs, but trust me, Mark was a true maestro on guitar. Would have liked to have seen Eddie live for an honest comparison of 2 of the best guitar players ever.

Glad you guys covered this fun song by Van Halen. Just a couple of recommendations , maybe for a One Hit Wnder Wednesday, Cruel to Be Kind by Spacehog, Drops of Jupiter by Train, Indio by Matt Mayes. Also for more Metallica, Orion (instrumental) and can't believe you haven't done Master of Puppets.

Prom, I heard Van Halen was the band. I was not there , got expelled and shipped back to my parents. Years later a friend dated Valerie Bertinely( spelled wrong ) right before she started dating Eddie Van Halen.
Another great selection from the DLRoth section of the VH category. (BTW, "GIrls Girls GIrls" was Motley Crue.) I urge you to delve more into the Sammy Hagar section, of which you've only done two songs, "Dreams" and "Poundcake". I would love for you to hear "Amsterdam", "Feels So Good", "Best of Both Worlds", and "Top of the World". Truly tremendous.

Girls Girls Girls is Motley Crue Not Van Halen. Those iconic backing volcals are the Bass Player Michael Anthony who has an amazing voice and can hit some incredable Highs. The drums are provided By Eddie's Brother Alex Van Halen. They are all Awesome musicians and Eddie sings mid range backing vocals also.
My favorite from Van Halen is probably PANAMA, or EVERYBODY WANTS SOME. This one is right up there, too.
David Lee Roth at lead vocals. You might wanna give a listen to one of his solo hits, a remake of Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody.

David Lee roth sang this one its one of his best and the difference between him and Sammy haggar is different styles I like some Roth and love haggar both sang lead for van Halen when Roth split haggar took over but he roth came back later for a bit there was a one hit wonder man inbetween both but haggar over the Roth my fav and when haggar was out Roth took over just before Eddie's passing with his son Wolfgang replacing bassist for final years of playing to be with his dad the origonal basis went back to Sammy haggar in the group the circle check out the circle.
