Big fan here, love your reactions. Alex Van Halen is a criminally underrated drummer. Check out the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame episodes for Alex Van Halen. It is done over 3 episodes featuring Ray Luzier, Mike Portnoy, and Jay Weinberg playing is tour kit and talking about his influence. If you want to know more about AVH's impact that's a good place to start.
For VH II, they recorded live in the room, but vocal were dubbed after. For Light up the Sky, Bassist Micheal Anthony had the high harmony, and Eddie had the mid-range. David Lee Roth did the lower. So there were 3, but they could have done that twice (for 6), but not sure. The vocals on the outro sound like reverse reverb. They would flip over the reels, and send it through the giant plate reverb. Then flip the reels back, and now the reverb leeds into the vocals.
My fav song on 2. Great video reaction here. Enjoyed it. Van Halen (all Van Halen) are in my top 5 all time fav bands. And yes, you can do that again because we all done that over and over and over with the mighty EVH.
You've probably already figured it out by now, or someone has explained it, but that cool "reverse" sounding vocal effect at the end of the song is pretty easy to recreate, especially nowdays: You just record your dry track normally, flip it, add a reverb to the reversed track, then flip the whole thing back forward again. The result is the echo slowing building up before the sound, instead of trailing off as an echo of the sound. Back in the day, they probably did this by recording the vocal normally, then playing it backwards through a reverb while recording it (or "bouncing it") to another track. Then when you play the new track forward, the echo builds ahead of the sound, like in the digital version. It's a really cool effect that got used a LOT in the 80's in guitar rock to add some other-worldly sounds to things, in addition to just whole-sale recording things backwards, which goes all the way back to Jimi Hendrix (and probably before him).
Alex and Mighty Mouse holding down the beat while Ed is being..Ed. Thank you for calling out the short drum solo. Alex hardly ever gets mentioned, and he's a helluva drummer.
In the studio the lead vocals are always doubled and backing vocals are usually one maybe two track’s depending on the complexity of the melody Michael Anthony and EVH sang the backup vocals with Eddy taking bass and Michael singing alto
No other Band brought us into the 80s like this band, don't get me wrong the 70s and 60s bands were amazing, Van Halen changed the world. There would be no 80s without them.
Question my friend. Love your show watch your videos all the time only a few good reactors to watch and your the only person I ever bought a coffee for actually 3. For an Ozzy song just curious if you’re backed up on videos or maybe you just haven’t gotten to it. Anyway have a Blessed day. Keep Rockin.
The HIGH Harmonies are the Bassist Michael Anthony!!!!! Also, Eddie too.... BUT.... Question: Who was the BEST Singer in VH? Answer: Michael Anthony!!!!!
those harmony's are NOT STACKED!!.. Micheal Anthony highs(bass Player) Eddie VH are doing the harmony's.. watch some live VH concerts.. I've seen VH many of times and the harmony's are crisp with Micheal Anthony high pitch..
45 YEARS LATER, STILL AHEAD OF THE PACK!!!
This band will always be untouchable.
Van Halen IS the top of the mountain.
Hell yeah!
If you haven’t figured it out you soon will, there is no ‘best’ Van Halen song. Those first 6 albums are legendary for a reason.
You're so right. Absolutely. I never ever got tired listening to them, and it's been more than 40 years for me...
Sammy is a nice guy but.....
Sam Halen SUCKS!!!
🤘🌎❤️
This and Dirty Movies might be my favorite Van Halen reactions of yours
Van Halen is a hard rock band with Motown backing vocals.
I haven’t heard this song since high school, brings back memories..thanks!
The first four Van Halen albums, can compete with any band. And I mean any band... Innovators like anybody else. Everybody a great musician.
From 77 to 83...nobody before or since
Dave is in those harmonies. He thickens up the sound.

Van Halen's first song on their last tour !!!! LIGHT EM UP !!!!
Early VH taking "rock"n roll to a new sound;)
Also, Dave was a master poet. Wolves at my door
Mugs, you should have a livestream Van Halen party when u hit 100
I've already reacted to everything 😂
SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR
Yeah jamming to this in Highschool cruising town 🤘😆🤘😆🎸🎸🎤🥁
Love your reactions. They were my favorite band growing up.
My fav VH lp. Saw their first 3 tours, yep, I'm old. Studio audio, not live.
Alex and Mighty Mouse holding down the beat while Ed is being..Ed.

We play this live, and now many people recognize it. I don't care if anyone knows it, we play it anyway.
That effect is a reverse reverb. @woodch explains it well.
Won't ever be another band like em. I'm so grateful to have grown up with them. RIP EVH

4 guys in harmony, no overdubs. echo effect added.
Van Halen did very little overdubing.
Michael Anthony is a phenomenal background singer.
Bass player Michael anthony does the high backing vocals
This was pre - auto tune crap ... they REALLY could sing like what you hear.
EDDIE VAN HALEN - What else can be Said !
Dave’s voice is also in the harmony mix which helps beef up the sound. Listen closely and you will hear all the voices.
This song always reminds me of a network TV stations own advertisement.
TO ME IT'S THEIR BEST SONG ....EVER❤

That’s as good as anything on the 1st album which is one of best albums ever.
Michael Anthony and Eddie harmonies....they sounded like that live
Atomic Punk!!
🔥!!!!
The HIGH Harmonies are the Bassist Michael Anthony!!!!! Also, Eddie too.... BUT....
Question: Who was the BEST Singer in VH?
Answer: Michael Anthony!!!!!
You need to do "Take Your Whiskey Home". I'll sub when you do.
those harmony's are NOT STACKED!!.. Micheal Anthony highs(bass Player) Eddie VH are doing the harmony's.. watch some live VH concerts.. I've seen VH many of times and the harmony's are crisp with Micheal Anthony high pitch..
Your little brain ain`t doing bad by putting this at number 1.
Not stacked brother
Danny Carey don't have squat on The Rev.....
Nothing stacked. They had the perfect harmony's of any bad ever. Eddie and Mike. Just listen to every song.
Hilarious.
You got Eddie and Micheal on background vocals. Micheal Anthony is actually a better singer than David
A lot of people sing better than Roth...lol
Once again, you keep stopping the song and it's totally annoying.
He has to, otherwise it gets shut down on copyright rules. Einstein.
@@paulolsen6870 Really Sherlock, then why can other reactors do it without any stops, Huh?
Best song on album! Your favorite drummer is not Alex? Mugs!???
