@@epicautomotivedetailing thanks to this channel i've just bought the evo p60. Would you advise to buy the 40 degree nozzle or is the 60/20 nozzle included fine for cars?
Great video Dave - loved listening to the sound of the sponge on the bodywork - reminded me of when I cleaned my car in the 90s. The good old 99p sponges were utilised when washing the car with Turtle Wax Hot Wax car wash. The sponge would turn permanently dark grey or black at the end of the wash 🤣.
I bought a Soft99 Qjutsu sponge with their Creamy shampoo... where you apply slightly diluted shampoo direct to sponge then foam up with the sponge cell structure and wipe over the car. All felt very alien, and it was much slower than wash mitt method - but - seemed 'safe' as high lubricity and sponge's softness. I've decided to use it now and again, but only on a well pre-washed car. (Bilt Hamber Touch-less snow foam is utterly awesome.) Nice vid anyway Dave, love the humour :)
um stands for Micron. I mainly uses sponges as I hardly do hose washes and do rinseless washing 95% of the time. So I use the Optimum Big red sponge or the DIY legacy sponge. You also dont want to use a sponge fully saturated. you want to rmove some of the water so the sponge has wicking ability to pull the dirt into the pores. I dont like using sponges with a hose wash.
I am have done car cleaning for 2 years for people now and I only would use a spong for tyre dressing gel. I find our own car looks better when its been washed with a wash mitt. I will stick to my wash mitts. Good video

Great video Dave , been doing a lot of rinseless washing lately with Feynlab Pure Rinseless, only have a 5 mile work journey so the car doesn't get to dirty ,just pollen and dust. I use The Rag Company Ultra Black Sponge , pre rinse and pre soak the panels and no problems so far 👍. Must admit it was quite strange to begin with, always rinse in a clean bucket . Only tend to get all the kit out about once a month. Loving the recent videos great to see some comedy on the detailing scene, which is far too serious ,keep them coming👍 all the best 😀

Hi Dave, can't believe the sponge is trying to make a comeback, not for me I'm afraid. As for items for car cleaning, sounds silly but I use a common dish brush for my wheel arches only cost a £1, but brilliant.
I bought one too, Dave. I have to be honest, whilst it was alien, it did clean the parts of the car I chose to use it on and I searched for marring and didn't find any. It's also interesting that, as seen in your video, the thing suds up more and more as you use it. I'm wondering if this thing will be better left to soak in the shampoo bucket (maybe with a little shampoo on it) to allow it to soak up the soapy water? 1 thing I think, it's better on glass than microfibre and it's better on intricate grill areas too. Even if this gets resigned to grills and glass, for what I paid, it's fine by me. All the best. 👍
I got one too but I was using it for rinseless wash . I quite liked it and using that method Removed lots of the dirt and released it back into the clean bucket . Car had done maybe 250 miles from Waxstock to home and to work a few days before I tried it so wasn't filthy more dusty . Not used them using the standard shampoo type wash
@@epicautomotivedetailing exactly it's the mindset of why am I using this ? I had this times two trying rinseless but for light cleaning gotta say I'm won over and both seem to work fantastic together
Special sponges for washing cars, especially with rinseless washes has been around for a while now but mostly in the US and Japan. The technology in then is high tech actually, so while it might look like a normal sponge but their material, construction and absorbancy is very different to a regular one.
You should search Japanese style rinseless washes, most of them are designed with these sponges and have pretty flawless results, all of them are high foaming shampoos basically that are applied straight to the sponge 😅
I prefer a sponge. Cheap as chips 2/3 washes and bin them or demote them to wheels 😂 Plus the real way to clean a wash mit takes ages so many stages of rinsing, leaving in water overnight, washing. Give me a 20p sponge I can throw away ha
I use the Ultra Black Sponge from The Rag Company and that is all I use. When I dunk it in the rinseless I squeeze it out till it only drips a little. This pushes out the dirt from the sponge. I use it on the softest black paints and have never scratched a car. Sponges are superior.
An interesting film. I myself am not convinced as I am either a M/F mitt or pad guy now but like you I started my journey with the sponge but that was in the 70's. DIY Detailing promote using a sponge but it has a different structure to that one and predominately used I think for rinse-less washes. I think this company were brave to take a stand at Waxstock. How was the show I heard it was quieter this year with less exhibitors?.
@@epicautomotivedetailing Why is it like that?. Surely we can all learn from others and have a debate on the pro's & con's. Someone needs to take a non swirled panel and wash it with both options then check for swirls to see if there is a difference. I think we may be shocked. I am not sure though that grit can be released from the structure of a sponge quite so easily once it is picked up. Just my opinion.

Believe it or not i still like the sponge for cleaning the car as well as a wash mitt but i am wondering if the hype about wash mitts etc is all to do with money making as most are from £10 upwards when a good old fashion sponge is £1. On the surface of the sponge you can see if there is dirt etc on it and when coming out the wash bucket you can look at the face of the sponge but the wash mitt in my opinion could trap dirt in which it's not visible to the eye , I know I have very little experience in car cleaning but this does concern me when using the mitt .
I'm just not gonna use anything i have to apply pressure to, especially with it making that squeaking at the same time. All i constantly think is "what if there was a bit of grit in that exact area that's under pressure"

To be honest, I use both a wash brush and basic cheap sponges for my cheaper/disaster valets. A lot of my clients are generally not car-people as such so it makes literally no odds to them. Sponges for the Corsas, wash brushes for the vans and wash mitts for the Aston Martins. All of my contact washes use the single bucket method as well. A good thorough prewash with some decent citrus and you’re laughing. Think about it, the Corsa drivers don’t have a clue what the two bucket method is, and the Aston Martin owners keep their cars exceptionally clean in the first place. Only bringing them out of the heated garage to be cleaned and putting them straight back in 😂 Unnecessary!
@@epicautomotivedetailing Always with a grit guard, though. I like to clean client cars as close to how I’d clean my own as possible. I’m never over the top though, most of my valets hang around £60-80 (£40/50 maintenance) so I don’t like to hang around for hours
Great video again sir. Great content , congratulations one more time. For the today's subject, from my point of view is far more important that the ... whatever wash mitt, wash pad, wash glove e.t.c we are using,is that have to be AS clean as possible we can, on every contact with the paint, and not so much the mitt it self. Can i give you an idea, maybe you test it you will like it,maybe not...maybe for future video..... H good quality mf towel ( 70-30 blend, 500gsm edgeless category, many brands have them) Put 1-3 of those on the bucket with the soap folded in 4s.... And you have 8-24 ....100% clean, very soft high quality sides to use on the car wash process..... Just an idea..... Again congratulations My kind regards
thank you for the comment. Yeah ill add that to my list of videos to investigate. Just planning these videos takes forever but that could be a great vid
I was thinking it was a mistake during the buy soft99 jujutsu. In another Chanel I seen comparing soft sponge and quality wash Mitt on black uni paint...
My son is into horse riding and while at the equestrian shop i spyed the grooming tools. Between different sponges, brushes identical to detailing brushes and other items. Deffo looked fit for the car washing. Have alook seriously.
Hi Ricky. I Decided to take some time out. I was juggling my business, the new unit, the channel and my family. I got all the chemicals and labels i just wanted time out to focus on the thing that made the most money and it was TH-cam
Hey Dave, do you offer any kind of courses, workshops or that someone "assists" you during 1-2 days at your work to know your best tricks? BTW great videos
I admire you great vid you've brought back the humour, but points off for trying it on the wife's car 😂. I work at a large university, and most of the cars are unwashed, or a complete disaster zone, which calls into question whether scientists can wash a car, never mind identify which is the safer wash media based on observed results. I do realise that soft 99 uses a sponge for their soft egg wash, and kamikaze has a sponge as well. Pdm did a test on which wash media was the safest, and a chenille nobly mitt was the best on test. I think I'll be sticking with the wash mitt. I have the ultra black sponge from the trc but I hardly use it, so I won't be buying this one. Sorry 😢
Next time for your experiments and comparisons use cgi animations and graphics to show us how that working.. not only a bucket and sponges! ;) Just kidding! Keep the good job! Thank you!

All of my contact washes use the single bucket method as well. A good thorough prewash with some decent citrus and you’re laughing. Think about it, the Corsa drivers don’t have a clue what the two bucket method is, and the Aston Martin owners keep their cars exceptionally clean in the first place. Only bringing them out of the heated garage to be cleaned and putting them straight back in 😂
Unnecessary!
your right, i agree not everyone cares enough to make that extra special effort with 2 buckets and wash mitts.
H good quality mf towel ( 70-30 blend, 500gsm edgeless category, many brands have them)
Put 1-3 of those on the bucket with the soap folded in 4s....
And you have 8-24 ....100% clean, very soft high quality sides to use on the car wash process.....
Just an idea.....
Again congratulations
My kind regards
thank you for the comment. Yeah ill add that to my list of videos to investigate. Just planning these videos takes forever but that could be a great vid
The days of 2 bucket wash is over , rindless wash the way to go now .
To be honest most people I spoke to at waxstock admitted they didn't use 2 bucket method
Yep! Two buckets is a waste of water and time. It's a mess and you just dunk a mitt in two buckets of dirty water. Rinseless rules.
Yeah thats funny you say that because we have horses and i noticed a few tools
Isn’t the upside down h the sign for micro
Dave what is the best product to get white smears off exterior trim and what is the best interior trim product
The best thing about a sponge is just that it saves you on things you put in the laundry. Thats it
Thank you for watching :)
Have you tried the soft 99 egg sponge
I use a bog brush to clean my wheels …..it really does clean the crap off the alloys 😉
MONKEY NIPPLES that made me laugh 😂
I reckon the name change of these would be awesome 😎
Wash Mitt all day long for me Dave!
Are you still selling your Epic Products ?
I went online and everything says Sold Out?
Hi Ricky. I Decided to take some time out. I was juggling my business, the new unit, the channel and my family. I just needed a few months to get my life sorted and make space for the new products so i could ship them from my unit. I got all the chemicals and labels i just wanted time out to focus on the thing that made the most money and it was TH-cam
Hey Dave, do you offer any kind of courses, workshops or that someone "assists" you during 1-2 days at your work to know your best tricks? BTW great videos
Yes down the line. In just getting the unit all set up for it. I have e books coming first
I admire you great vid you've brought back the humour, but points off for trying it on the wife's car 😂. Sorry 😢
Next time for your experiments and comparisons use cgi animations and graphics to show us how that working.. not only a bucket and sponges! ;)
Just kidding! Keep the good job!
Thank you!
Thank you
I'll stick to the microfiber mitts, way better results. Those yellow sponges are abrasive, no way of sugar coating that theory.
Definitely some interesting comments on this one for sure. Shame I can't add polls to the videos for people to vote as its a love hate tool
@@epicautomotivedetailing a weekly poll post would be interesting on certain products going head to head to see what the followers prefer! Chamois vs drying towel
this new beaut foam is simply a variation on eggshell foam , traditionally used in soundproofing applications. Its attraction would be that it is cheap as chips to produce and, with a bit of pseudo scientific endorsement combined with its shear novelty, it'll sell like hotcakes. What does it retail for ?
I paid £3 at waxstock for it. I think they cost more online now as it was an offer item last week.
00:53 🤣. I'll stick with the mitt but that was not a bad sponge in fairness
yeah i think the sponge gets a tough time. i mean its not even flat so i definitely see the positives in it for people who dont want to carry a huge wash mitt around so the older generation may use this and it may make their lives easier
Dooka wash mitt for the win! Try it you will never look back
Never heard of it but will have a look now
Slight error in the video - that's clearly University of Hull at 0:54
I wouldn't know over never been that far up north before 😅
Somehow Kamikaze and DYI Detail have sponges and recommend sponges instead of wash mitts for rinseless wash 🤣
The DIY sponge is brilliant.
some big names bringing out sponges these days. surely they can't all be that bad. Poor sponges get a hard time lol
@@britishrocklovingyank3491Never had the chance to try it but from de videos i saw, it looks good
@@epicautomotivedetailingA few weeks ago i saw that DIY products are available in the UK so I think the sponge is also available, a video on that could be interesting since you've done this one 😄
Andreas is a guru
I know he is 100%, that's why I mentioned him 😁
“Monkey nipples” “off putting nips” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Brilliant son. I enjoyed that one. That said it might be a better watch with a KFC bargin bucket. (Other bargin are available, but not as good). Not that it seemed to worry the Gentleman in the video. And another thing . I didn't know it was possible to get your videos on good old vintage Tv's. Dad 🍺😂🤣
lol Cheers Dad i actually enjoyed making this one
super helpful thank you
μm = micrometre (micron) or one millionth of a metre or one thousandth of a millimetre.
So… why the problem with squeaking sponges on cars but not on washing the pots…? Don’t you have to microfiber and clay bay to get that normally…? 🤷♂️
Maybe they should do another sponge color for the bottom half of the vehicle...
fair point
What's your opinion of the BIG RED SPONGE (and similar sponges)? Would you ever use one, even for an no-rinse wash?
I havent used one but will look out for one, Not sure if there is a particular brand but anyways I will just google big red sponge lol 😅
@@epicautomotivedetailing hi tell me what you think about big red sponge and soft 99 qujitsu.
Great video :)
Cheers Jonathan
Testing it out on the wife's car, well played sir 😆
its ok its got awful paint anyways lol
My man just called out the whole of Birmingham
No not the whole of Birmingham just the uni 😅😉
When you say "for another video" at 6 mins, is that to wash a car or clean the back of your bum? 😂
lol oh yeah just noticed, too late now 🤣
I think you misunderstood them. When they said ‘it was the next best thing’. They meant it’s literally the next-best thing (after all the actual best things out there!!) 😂
I missunderstood life in general mate 🤣 I swear something is wrong with me
Once again another fantastic and informative video Sponge Dave Square pants
lol love a sponge
I would use the microfiber wash mit instead of the sponge. Hands down.
Yeah i would but i loved to revisit things like this and hopefully it serves the industry some useful info for the beginners
Upside down h and m is sign for microns.
😉😅
Monkey nipples ya know 😂 love it
lol everyone loves the nips
That sound is like nails on a black board😂
It's a classic sound, reminds me of the good olds helping Dad wash the car back in the summer when i was younger
I just can’t bring myself to do it 😂
You can do it, I have faith in you 😉
Looks like sound deadening foam 😂
I saw another video from another car sponge company who said their own one was used from packaging foam, Lets not forget people polish cars with sponge pads. Poor sponge gets a hard time lol
Evening buddy
Hello mate. I would of never had this video if it wasnt for superchargedllama and waxstock. very glad i went
@@epicautomotivedetailing great to have you there buddy
Nothing new as we've been receiving our machine parts with those sponges for years.
Fantastic stuff best news I've heard all day 🎉🥹
Yes sponge is bad
Depends how much people like their cars, there was a lot of positives to take from this as it wasnt a typical sponge you would find in halfords. I still need to keep using it on the odd car to see what long term durability is like
mate why over complicate car washing .Making a video of a sponge,Ive been cleaning vehicles since 1984,Its just a valet thats got turned into a money grabbing Detail O.M.G
Me??? I'm not the one who made the sponge. I actually agree it's way too overcomplicated that's why I try to simplify as much as possible in my videos. It's just a video on a sponge I wouldn't worry too much about it I just thought it would make a different topic from the norm.
where's the hate button? #spongebobgang
In the comments section I reckon 🤣
