Wycliffe is one of the most FREE OF LIMITS musicians I know. Wonderful!
One of the best brass player.
I've been drinking the whole night and just discovered this man on trombone , helped me better than a cold beer.
beatiful TS solo, takes his time, nice commping on piano
Adrian's sax solo is one of my all time favorites. Genius with technique and range. That solo is from his soul, you can feel it. Wycliffe too!
Nice homage to Bach in the piano solo! Sweet!
Wycliffe Gorgon is hands down the best living trombone player in all styles if not best ever to live. I hope to meet him one day.
Darren Smith I agree that he is, but Mr. Gordon has been awarded best trombone player several times
Bill Watrous tho...
I am a senior in high school and I will be performing WITH him on the 31st of this month!
You will find him quite approachable and easy to talk to.

Suavo Jones it's a Wycliffe Gordon Hybrid, i'm pretty sure

Haha, I learned that shortly after I commented this because I went on a mad internet hunt for one. Then I felt really dumb not already knowing about soprano trombones, and being a trombonist...crap haha.
NICE.........................

NOW WHERE IN THE HELL DO YOU FIND A TINY TROMBONE
Amazon
From a tiny music store.
Thomas Mann Germany
I heard a bit of NOLA in that t-bone solo
Great music LoL!!!
Jajaja yeah!!!!
Splanky Special at 6.42
Why does the sound come out like that in the beginning? I've never heard a sound come out of a trombone naturally like that before
He's using the attack of his tongue to accent it that way
Lots of textures can be achieved by use of the tongue and adjusting the embouchure. I play predominantly bass bone and although I've played tenor far longer, find those adjustments far easier on bass bone.
Well yes it is now. It wasn't when I made the post
3:00
Great video!
The name of the song is "C jam blues" by Duke Ellington :)
Omg
10:19 Haha, there's a kid in the background singing "Hi-dee-hi-dee-ho"!
What kind if modification did he do to that slide trumpet to fit a trombone mouthpiece?
Hybrid mouthpiece by chasons
I know that 3 years passed but this is alto trombone. Not a slide trumpet ✌️
@@HamalonHamilton Nope. Alto trombone is a good bit bigger, and doesn't sound too different from a tenor in terms of color.
This is Soprano Trombone/Slide Trumpet, whatever you want to call it.
The reason the mouthpiece looks big is because its a custom make "Wybrid".
Who's on bass? He's killin
please tell me someone what kid of mouthpiece is Wycliffe using on trumpet at 01:30 I need one big like this one.
It's a hybrid trumpet/trombone mouthpiece. It has the rim of a trombone mouthpiece with the cup depth of a trumpet mouthpiece.
thx a lot!
Who's on tenor?
I may be a little confused, but I don’t fully know what I’m talking about when it comes to this kind of stuff- How is he playing on that small of a trombone with such a large mouthpiece? Don’t those types of trombones usually use trumpet-like mouthpieces? Also, does anybody know the names of the mouth piece and trombone (I believe it’s a soprano trombone) that he uses? I’m very interested😏
I may be wrong, but I think it's something he had designed for it, and it's a piccolo trombone
@@dawsongreene460 Yes the mouthpiece is made for him, but available for purchase on his website. It's a hybrid or "wybrid" with a trombone rim and trumpet shank.
Wycliffe's own mouthpiece with a trombone rim and trumpet shank. You can purchase on his website. The soprano trombone was made for him. Also available for purchase for the amateur musician at BAC.
Soprano trombone is pitched like a trumpet, so an octave higher than a normal/tenor trombone. However, thus hybrid mouthpiece others talk about gives him added textures blending contrasts of trombone and trumpet.
5:18 opus de funk
If you are referring to the soprano trombone section i completely agree with you, otherwise i think it was fine.
That drummer had no energy for what that sax player was speaking
WHY IS DIS DUDE GOING BACK IN AFTER EVERY NOT IN THE BEGINNING? Ya know you could just stay at 4th right?
STEVE LEVELEVE He is a professional jazz trombone player, he obviously knows that. He's going back to 1st to give the note that unique accent in the beginning.
It’s for the accent and he starts the note before he’s at 4th so it gives it a jazzy sound
gimmick slide trumpet
