This is my all time favorite TOOL song ! Maynard is hauntingly beautiful in this Followed by reflection ..and then decending... I hope you like it...in my opinion she is spot on ..you all day everyday battle with the alleged angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other battling for your attention ..and to cull out the herd is to let one side or the other to win ..in my opinion
Adam Jones' guitar playing in songs like this, and wings are often so overlooked for how beautifully they are constructed. These 2 songs particularly are the songs i point to to show just how good he really is
Adam is not only the key founder of Tool, but also largely responsible for the unique sound. Paul D'amore's lead-bass sound (embraced by Justin) and Danny's musicianship obviously are a large component along with Maynard's lyrics/voice, but Adam is way overlooked. While Adam doesn't shred, he uses every other guitar technique - octaves, harmonics, tremolo picking, power chord riffs, octave bends, hammering/pulling, and so much more - to create a soundscape that generates/enhances a particular mood brilliantly. His guitar tones range from the extremely dark and rolled off (e.g., the cover of No Quarter) to the super screechy and crunchy. So underrated.
Song building masterpiece, every artist gets his part at a proper time, guitar, vocal, bass, drums. And when they come it is so powerful. Love this song.
Actually there is new tool music! (Well, kind of) “The witness by Adam Jones” featuring Justin Chancellor and Danny Carey, you guys should react to it ;), love your channel and reactions
My thoughts on this song went to social media and our relationship with it. Its can be an echo chamber and we scroll through making snap judgments about people without any real evidence. We have these imaginary conversations with people we never see or meet and that is nearly indistinguishable from psychopathy. Emotional detachment, narcissism, lack of empathy are all prevalent when we interact with strangers on social media.
This is part of my one hour meditation playlist I listen to every morning… helps keep my ego in check and release the anger before I go out in the world thank you MJK and Trent reznor too while I’m at it
I believe the song is about voices in ones head causing paranoia. Culling voices could mean he listens to the voices in his head rather than the voices in reality.
Puscifer hands down , or A Perfect Circle , your still in the rabbit hole , dont fool yourself Maynard has a way to take you a distant memory with his voice.
Another great reaction, thanks you two. There's plenty of great music to cover from A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and other bands that Maynard has sang with, plus Tool live. I'd suggest mixing it up with other bands as well. I think you'll love Unleash the Archers, as well as many others that will be recommended. Have fun and stay safe.
Also voices from outside, or those not your own but around you. Select the healthy or beneficial ones and "cull" the negative or unhealthy ones. Interpretation is in the mind of the beholder. 😊
This songs about the state of social media, "cancel culture" and the effects its having on our society. Judge condemn and banish any and everyone. Definition of psycopathy: Psychopathy, sometimes considered synonymous with sociopathy, is traditionally a personality disorder characterized by persistent antisocial behavior, impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited, and egotistical traits. All traits one who would participate in bad social media behavior would have. Also Maynard was caught up in some of this "cancel culture" when he was falsely accused of sexual assault and fighting the online attacks he endured because of the claims by those who tried to cancel him.
My take on the song is that it's about our generally negative inner voices and dialog and when he says 'don't you dare point that at me' he's saying to himself don't direct that negativity toward himself
Pink Floyd would be a next good journey. A lot of people feel Tool is a modern version of Pink Floyd. If you decide to go in that direction I would recommend starting with Dark Side of the Moon. A lot of the albums before this are more experimental and very different.
@@BH02377 No not whatever period. Not one tab (NOT ONE) Drums, Guitar or Bass reads in 7/? the entire song. Please point out where this quote from (they) says its 7 because its written in 7.
@@psycho416s sigh. You said it has a "7" simply because it was the seventh song on the "ALBUM", which a lot of was written in 7(not every single section obviously) which sorta became the album's theme. Deftones have a song called "Tempest". That's why they put the 7 on it.
I recommend Away by Cam Cole. He's from near London, he plays guitar while singing while drumming with his feet. Real smooth and bluesy. Whole 1st album is amazing. Start with Away, tho
May I recommend the band Esoterica? They do not have as many views as they should have and the singer of that band sometimes awfully reminds me a lot of Maynard. Their music too btw. Please check out this band and give them some exposure, they deserve it! Had a chat with the singer once and he was so nice!
My understanding for Culling Voices was very personal: the psychopathy that we have within ourselves... like: how many parts of me I killed before to become who I am right now? This murder of our own conscience to fit something could be considered a psychopathy? In this internet/social media we are always trying to fit something and giving up of our beliefs
I haven’t heard “so good, honestly!” in so long, which is disappointing and I think you should definitely listen to the song Opiate again just to hear the origin of what got them paid in the beginning after the end of all this.
You still have the entire Aperfectcircle and Puscifer discography to go, a long way yet til you're done with Maynard! His other bands are every bit as good as Tool, maybe not as strong, but excellent in their own right.
Vicarious is really the only one i don't really like... i must admit this one took a bit of growing, but every time i listened t oit, more came out and i fell in love with this one
This is the worst song on the album, imo. It’s an A Perfect Circle song but with uninspired riffs by Adam and Justin. Danny phones it in too. Maynard is on point, though. Loving the reaction so far!
Some of Marnards best vocals in my opinion...
This song is basically Maynards way of saying F off social media, Remember when they try to accuse him of rape? yeah this is his response

Maynard's vocals are amazing in a few of " a perfect circle " songs as well. Always look forward to your reactions.
If you want to see another creative side of Maynard run the gauntlet of a perfect circle thanks for you guys reaction

i can't think of many tool songs that sound the way this one sounds. and that's why i like it so much. it brought something new to their sound.
The first time I listened to this song it surprised me so much. What a great song!
This song only gets better the more I hear it. Thank you again.

I lay my vote on Opeth. A Swedish progressive metal/rock band for you to discover next!
I was going to say this, agree with you.
@C K masterpiece
My favorite from Fear Inoculum, absolutely haunting

Grand Canyon by Puscifer is a really great song sung by Maynard!
When I'm in the mood for Tool vids, I watch Int
Tool songs + None interrupting reactions=The BEST reactions

Initum please keep dissecting Maynard's lyrics. You have to great discography's of Maynard's in APC and Puscifer.
Did anyone else wish this song was longer? It left me wanting!
I watch a lot of responses, most of them include Tool ~ congrats on being the ones who go the deepest on each song!
Wintersun - Sons of Winter and Stars (Live rehearsal Sonic pump studios). You won't regret it
This song is ssooooooooooo underrated... The build is amazing!!...Oh, and Maynards vocals.. WOW
Absolute killer song.
Captured by the vocals ...till the instrument set you free
My take on the song is that it's about our generally negative inner voices and dialog and when he says 'don't you dare point that at me' he's saying to himself don't direct that negativity toward himself
Pretty sure it’s trolling the rape allegations.
Fully agree he would be introspective in this regard......
I do believe it can be taken in both lights of meaning. An easy double entandra song to mean what you make of it.
If you'd like to see another side of Adam Jones, you should check out " The Witness".
gotta hear just the vocal track isolated... amazing

7empest is really (Tempest)......Its the 7th song on the CD version of the album and thats why 7 is used as the first letter.
That's not why. It's because it was written in 7.

The Outsider by A Perfect Circle is a great show of Maynard's vocal capacity also 👌👌
This my favorite track on the Album
Hoping that Porcupine Tree is one of your bands to listen in mind. he he
Best band you've never heard of is my title for Porcupine Tree. They've got some bangers
gotta go down that Korn worm hole
One might call it a... Korn hole?

Do apc, Puscifer, then change it up with some incubus!
And make the Incubus song “the warmth”. Haha
Go on to Perfect Circle and Puscifer.
A Perfect Circle/Puscifer! Still plenty of Maynard content to cover.
MAYNARDS COVER OF ROCKET 🚀 MAN........

Go to Opeth, or A Perfect Circle next 🙏🤘

I think is the most simple but chill from the album. It has a nice and clean structure and you can enjoy it at any time
"...uninspired riffs by Adam and Justin. Danny phones it in too." You clearly don't know anything about music.
