    Nothing more satisfying than to bring these old toys back to life.

    A flathead screwdriver would've been more helpful for those tabs. Great restoration though, great job, good work!
    I love those restoration channels also.

    There is a special lightbulb and red/green rotating beacon lense that goes on the top. It was supposed represent an airport location beacon. Most of these were painted red by lionel , the silver ones are hardest to find. A timer can be used to make a red bulb flash to simulate a warning beacon. Reproduction parts for the special bulb and rotating beacon lenses are available from most toy train parts suppliers or ebay. The blue is a neat look for making one of these a water tower if the light scocket is missing or damaged.

    Nice restoration! I like the paint you put on it. Also, on the top where the lightbulb is, a little hood goes over it. The heat spins it and it's a rotating beacon. You can probably find one on ebay.

    Wow, this has to be one of your best videos in awhile. Very professional. The music really set a mature tone. Great job on the restoration and the video. I wish you showed the painting process. Spray paint? Now you can sell that for sixty bucks. :) Maybe even more.

    If you get into body tools. You can find rubber head and plastic head hammers made for small metal working. These are made for auto industry for working metal . to move it a little at a time without ruining or over stretching fine metal details

    Nice, I have a No 394 beacon!

  • @johnbeck3270
    @johnbeck3270 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    FYI.
    The original bulb in the beacon had a dimple in the center of the top, the rotating beacon had a pin pivot inside, this pin set in the divot. The beacon housing had angled vents in the top, the hot air generated by the bulb escaped out these vents making the beacon turn. There was no motor involved. Maybe a well supplied Lionel repair station would have the bulb and beacon head.

    Nice video but you did do a couple of things you should have not done. When playing with paint stripper you should have had gloves on. That stuff is not good for the skin. The other thing I would also have suggested would have been to prime the metal since you took the time to clean it up very nicely. A nice rusty metal primer or even a regular primer would have been nice before the final blue coat of paint. Overall a good video and it was enjoyable. Makes me wonder what it's worth to a Lionel collector now that you have fixed it up. It did turn out looking good in the end especially considering all the rust and bent metal you started with. I would personally love to see you do more restoration of older Lionel accessories.

    Ooo if you know someone that can sew or has 1 find a real leather sand pillow. Helps with shaping metal . it helps it to take shape without over stretching. I work on cars trucks and tractors 🚜 off road vehicles you name it. Doesn't stop at trains.

    Try using a plier to bend the tabs on soft metal rather than the hammer. The beacon needs a dimpled bulb and red/green lens to finish the restoration.
