Ironic enough I've seen two accounts of FL9s triple heading, one an eyewitness account on freight duty (which even 3 of them couldn't beat the EP5s as stated in said document) and another a photo with the third locomotive deadheading. Quite the railroading oddity you've managed to recreate. I must say I'm quite jealous, I only have two locomotives that even qualify as an FL9, and neither can operate together (I'd rather not ruin the Rapido one while running it with the home built one). Heck, I'd send one your way if I was able to. Hats off to you.
S.M.T. - A little F.Y.I. - E units were primarily passenger locomotives, but were sometimes pressed into freight service. The frame & mating surfaces of a powered truck in a Tyco locomotive, that allows it to swivel inside the body, is called a " gimbal " bearing.
Somewhat of a common sight in the Chicago area in the 70s on both the Erie Lackawana and the Rock Island. After EL pulled the plug on passenger service the perpetually power short railroads had two criteria did it run and could it pull freight so EL put their Es to work running from the east coast to Chicago and once they were too much of hanger queens in transfer service in Chicago til they finally died. Rock Island did the same in it's final years after the new RTA F40ph's bumped them from commuter service.
Too bad that NH never had E8 equipment. The Alco PA1's were problem plagued and the FL9's were great stand ins for the passenger service considering that they lasted into Metro North days out of GCT.
Unfortunately Th New Haven RR never had E units due to the restrictions of the Park Ave viaduct in NYC. They did have a FL9 (B - A1A wheel arrangement) which ran as a diesel from Boston to New Haven to Woodlawn, NY, then used the NY Central's 600 VDC third rail for power into NYC.
I assume you just use alcohol to clean the commutator, right? That plastic method with the brushes is quite the operation, holy crow. Very smooth running, good work.
OOOOO Awesome very good thats some New Haven Motive Power in a lineup! The wheels making the clicking noise and the way the locomotives sound like they have their diesel motors running with turbos Screaming WHEEEEEEEEEE. lol very nice
I had tyco trains but years later I found bachmann trains to be better.I had a Santa Dr northern steam locomotive.It was a good puller.It pulled a train of 20 to 30 boxcar with no strain.
Sounds legit. My rivarossi 4-6-2 has cracked drive wheels around where the connecting rods are mounted and I don’t want to pay >$100 for a locomotive to take the wheels from
Where can I get the material to make the little thing to use when putting that plate back on the motor piece That and I need a little magnetic dish like the one you got too
@@SMTMainline yes it is I was in Illinois at Christmas time to see a cnw heritage unit and I went to the local train club and I see this guy running 6 bachmann sound and dcc equipped Santa Fe F7s and I’m like.... bruh :l
Captain Zeglarz - Make sure you get the proper flux for electrical soldering. Do not use the acid flux for plumbing & metal joining; it will cause corrosion!

Ya need to make a six-axle powered version with a dummy... one powered truck put on the other chassis. Run the dummy loco as a third unit.

The diesel is an E7. The E8/9 has curved number boards, porthole type side windows, and round roof fan covers.

Are you looking for older parts for bachmann? I would suggest eBay or bachmann trains parts website. That’s my guess.

You just put a small amount of CA over the top (being careful not to put too much for accidentally put any on the teeth.
