    My lisianthus seeds are hatching ! I sowed them 14-1, and yesterday evening : tada !
    Tiny, tiny, but with my reading glasses on, I can see them. Now the goal is to keep them alive.
    Greetings from the Netherlands.

    There is a lot of emerging scientific evidence that foliar spraying is the most efficient way of fertilizing your plants. I have been doing it for 3 years and it’s an absolute game changer. Soil health should still be your number one priority but foliar fertilizing is very important to a plant’s well being and productivity.

    Hey Nicole, my name is Glenda Doyle and I found your channel a few weeks ago and have been binge watching them ever since. Love what you are doing and you are giving me the fever to grow flowers to sell. I grow flowers for my own enjoyment and most do quite well. I am 76 years old, but in good health which I attribute to spending lots of time with my flowers and vegetable garden. Just a little concerned that the work load may be more than I can handle even though my husband does help me some with things such as tilling the soil for my flower beds. I have a large Dahlia bed with approx. 100 Dahlias and after watching your support netting video, I plan to do that to mine this year as I have the same problem with wind as you do. We live on top a mountain in the Arkansas Ozarks that is pretty open. Problem is, I haven't found the type of netting you use with the 4 x 4 inch openings and 4 ft. width. Would you mind letting me know where it may be found? I have looked online but haven't found it. By the way, I love your being you in the videos. You are definitely entertaining. I actually started my own You Tube video 2 years ago but didn't have much success with it so I stopped making and posting over a year ago.

    • @FlowerHillFarm
      @FlowerHillFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Glenda! I am actually moving away from that netting next year for my dahlias and I am using a “corralling” method, running one line of rope along each side to keep them upright. The netting is called Hortonova netting and I have the link in the description of most of my videos!

    • @ozarkmountainhomesteaddoyl3762
      @ozarkmountainhomesteaddoyl3762 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlowerHillFarm Thank you for your quick reply. I used paracord last year for support running it at several heights along each side of the rows lengthwise and then running a piece from side to side between the plants as they grew taller. I tied the cross pieces to the lengthwise cord. Basically boxing in each plant. It worked pretty well but took a lot of paracord and a lot of work.

    QUESTION 🤔🤔🤔 Are you worried about replanting your Dahlias in the same area as last year? Is there residual disease or something in the soil to be concerned about? • @FlowerHillFarm
      @FlowerHillFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Natalie! The disease does stay in the soil for a couple of years. The soil would need to be remedied in order to plant there again this season- there are a couple of options. I am planning a video about that in the future-

    Very cool. Your Lisies have hatched!
    My pansies........20% so far. That's 10 days. Hoping more decide they like to grow. Otherwise
    I'm unimpressed............grrrrrr.
    Totally understand why to germinate via the Charles Dowding method.
    I do mini flood irrigation of trays that have potting soil and seedlings.
    I pour water around the perimeter and this capillary flows to all of the soil.
    I gave up on mist spraying. It's not enough water to really moisten the
    soil well and I don't keep the things covered because I don't want
    damping off.
    The meat tray thing is a fab idea. So far I'm using IKEA trays because that's what
    I have. But I am saving the meat trays for when more intense seed starting begins.

    • @FlowerHillFarm
      @FlowerHillFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I'll definitely be filling the sides- I will only mist and cover until germination is finished! I have not planted pansies! I'd love to try it next year.

    Thought: I follow many beekeepers/removers along with the "hornet king". He has chickens as well and feeds the larvae to his chickens. He does not use pesticides and it seems to be a great source of protein for them. Perhaps that might help you with feeding and cost if you partner with a bee remover?? Finally, I have been convinced to plant Lisianthus this! Thank you! :)

      Be careful with your echinacea. I planted probably 6 or 7 plants of different color. Now 4 years down the road I have pink echinacea everywhere. They cast their seeds everywhere between my roses in my dianthus, in phlox, poppies, lavender, in everywhere. And they are now all pink! If someone knows why please let me know but for now I’m giving away lots echinacea.

      Thanks! It's one of my favorites. I made it a couple years ago. The seed packet will usually tell you how long before frost to start the seeds. I spend a lot of time doing research on my seeds to figure all of that out!

    I’m new to gardening and have successfully germinated lisianthus! “Now the hard part begins” - they are now two weeks old - do I keep the humidity dome on? If so, how long? Also, when should I take off the heat mat? Sounds like maybe week 3 or 4? And lastly, should I keep misting, top water, or start bottom watering now? Thanks!!

    Hi, I’ve never used grow lights before as I grow in a heated propagator in a greenhouse. We currently have about 8hours of day light a day. Do you think this is enough for the lisianthus. It does work quite well for my other seeds to germinate.

    • @michellesanders2747
      @michellesanders2747 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      8 hours of sun is not r to 8 hours of grow lights. We keep grow lights on for 12-18 hours because they're not as strong as the sun. 8 hours of sun should be good enough, even though this time of year the sun isn't as "strong"
