    Other high paying paths in law: going in house at a tech company, starting your own law firm, going into business (consulting, banking), or going to a boutique law firm that specializes in a lucrative area of law (plaintiff's side firms for consumer products, etc.)

    Informative video. Thanks for sharing the pathway. Is there any opportunity to work as virtual legal/research associate in well-established law firm in the post COVID era?? It would be great if you make a video on that particular topic.
    Thank you.

    Hi Julian, great video. As a video idea, could you explain the main legal fields, including corporate, litigation, and regulatory/compliance law? Thanks!

    I swear the latering transition even from small/midsized firm is pretty much same for finance/consulting if you dont start at a top firm and switch to one (say going from big 4 consulting to MBB)

      That makes sense. The industries are very similarly structured

    I just got accepted to law school. and will start August 2023. May you make videos on study tips/methods for law school students. May you please make a video on transfer students who transferred from one law school to a higher ranked law school please like the application process and the experience?

    People watching this video should know the Texas legal market works differently from the rest of the country. While the pay rate remains the same as the industry standard for many biglaw firms, you can get a summer associate position after 1L. Many students go straight into biglaw rather than doing an internship.

      Thanks for the insight! Texas has always done things a bit differently. In law school they were also very preferential to Texas folks rather than out-of-staters

    One question…I have a foreign law degree and I plan to get my L.MM in NYU, then take the bar exam (in NY foreign students can take the bar) you think I have a chance with biglaw?

    We just got an email this morning about the boutique that raised 1st years to $250k. They're Cravath+ scale, but I feel another salary war hotting up. I think (hope) $250k total will be the normal when my class (2024) graduates.

      Ooo interesting to hear. Tbh I'd be surprised if salaries go up given the cooling of the market (Cooley pushing back start dates and offering deferrals another indicator of that) but things change quick, so maybe in a few years. Even with the increases in the last few years biglaw folks aren't paid relatively as much as they used to be in the mid 2000s

    Do big law firms raise an eyebrow if you’re applying as a summer associate and all your prior experiences were public interest?

    • @julianinlaw
      @julianinlaw  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Usually not - but you should be prepared to answer someone asking "I see you have a history of public interest, are your preferences changing..." etc.

      Apply from undergrad to US law schools! Or, get a law degree in India, then apply to US law schools!

    I wonder if you carry a boombox with you wherever you go. Just to provide some background music whenever you talk. Because it helps to concentrate on what you're talking about, right? After all, that's what we want when we open a biglaw job video - to listen to background music.
