  • Did I pick the right RhinoRamps Vehicle Ramps? | 16,000 (16k) vs 12,000 (12k) lbs GVR
    I've never used vehicle ramps before so I wasn't entirely sure which capacity I should get. I primarily needed ‪@FloToolProducts‬ RhinoRamps to get my 2018 Subaru Forester Touring just slightly higher off the ground to make it easier for me to slip underneath and drain the oil. Even a few years ago, it was easier for me to perform an oil change but I've found as I've gotten older, my eyesight isn't as good so it's harder for me to see objects up too close to my face and frankly, I've gained so much weight since working at home full-time that I honestly can't quite fit underneath the Forester.
    I bought both 12,000 and 16,000 lbs GVR (gross vehicle rate) Rhino Ramps and was immediately seeing a difference in their width. Check out my video to see which one I kept and see if they'll fit underneath the front of a 2022 Dodge Challenger SXT AWD car. I know I was surprised!

    I really like using my ramps. One of the first times I used them, I forgot to remove the wheel chocks from behind my tires when I was done. I went to reverse, and the ramp shot straight forward! Thankfully, it was only at a concrete wall. 😅

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Forgetting to remove the chock(s) is very easy to do but I never considered what would happen doing that with ramps! Wow! I can honestly understand and appreciate that happening and must have been pretty jarring! Glad nobody was hurt or nothing damaged! 🙏Good safety tip when it comes to using ramps and making sure the vehicle can roll-off unimpeded when finished. For added safety, I place two jack stands lightly touching the support points underneath my car. I am sure the Rhino ramps are adequate but when I crawl underneath my car, I'd like the comfort to know that if any of the ramps fail, the car will drop onto the jack stands, not on me!

    I love my rhino ramps. Have used them for years. They’ve served me well on my 2005 Escape and my wife’s 06 Grand Prix. I have used my 12K Rhino Ramps since 2012 under everything from a golf cart to a 1/2-ton pickup. Zero issues, zero deflection, and absolutely no damage or cracks. I use a floor jack to raise low or heavy vehicles and slide the ramps under the tire then lower them onto the ramps. Great product!

      Rhino Ramps are indeed great! However, hairline cracks can (do) happen depending (among other conditions) on how they are stored (hot 100+ summers & freezing -40 winters) plus if there has been any misuse of them... Always check for cracks very carefully before use, especially when use with vehicles nearing the ramp's limit and always use them as a set.

    I'm lucky my in laws have a huge concrete ramp they use for servicing their tractors.

It does make sense having a service pit installed in a garage if you have to renovate it anyway...I would love that! Even with ramps, it gets old working with only a few inches above your face or not having the room to really GRAB and get LEVERAGE on something. I've just purchased a used 4th gen Forester ( a tow vehicle for me as they are rated 4400lb here in Europe) and I'm looking at some ramps...
    What is the extra lift ( height of the. ramp) that your set gives you? The ones i was looking at state 8,5 inches..

    Did you ever use the ramp on a Jeep wrangler, I want to change the fluids in my standard transmission and the transfer case. Also I wonder how the ramps handle a standard transmission going up.

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, I haven’t used on my Wranglers since they’re both lifted and I have enough room underneath to perform maintenance without using ramps. Also, I have not used with a standard transmission and can imagine it’ll be a bit trickier feathering the clutch up the ramps. Let us know how it goes and good luck 👍

    Was the difference in oil level significant after you brought it down from the ramps?

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was and has been overfilled so next change I’m going to have to be more aware to not trust the dipstick but the amount going in then use dipstick after it’s off the ramps. Hopefully no worse overfilling than the amounts I’ve had refilled way back when I used to use those quick oil change places…though engines back then may not have been as susceptible to overfilling issues. Definitely something to be aware using ramps I’ll have to watch going forward.

      @Micael-sb8jf - I saw another video about these ramps from someone who has had them for nearly 10 years. The ramps are still holding strong! The ramps will fail if you don't store them correctly like keeping them outside and allowing the heat and the cold to deteriorate the plastic. I keep mine in my garage when not in use. I live in Southern California where we don't get the extreme weather.

    So they say the rating is 4000 lbs. each or 8000 per pair. OR 16000 lbs. GVW. What does that mean?

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is confusing! My interpretation is they instruct the pair of ramps must be used together to support only the front or the rear wheels of a vehicle weighing no more than 16,000lbs where neither the front or the rear weighs more than 8,000lbs and neither ramp carries more than 4,000lbs of half the load of the lifted front or rear of the vehicle. Again, that’s just my interpretation and if you freeze my video where I show the packaging fine print you may be able to read the fine print where they explain the weight load ratings…it is confusing. Thanks for watching! 👍

    • @Mascotal
      @Mascotal 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@WorksIRL Hmmm That's interesting. I would understand it to mean 16000 GVW being the total weight of the vehicle with four of the ramps supporting the entire vehicle and one ramp under each wheel.
      Therefore, if each ramp is only rated for 4000 lbs. then you would be required to weigh the front axle to know if it works for your vehicle.
      Kind of a confusing way to advertise the product I think.

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MascotalI had the same thought as you when seeing these ratings and if I remember correctly, their instructions state only the front or the rear should be raised using a pair of ramps, not use two pairs to raise the entire vehicle. I presume lawyers must be involved and they have to state it this way for liability reasons...I'm not sure. Please come back and fill me in if you learn how and why they rate it this way, I'd love to know. ✌

    • @Mascotal
      @Mascotal 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@WorksIRL OK so today I bought the Rino brand ramps because they showed 16000 lb. rating.
      I need to ramp my 4x4 pick up truck so I wanted the higher rating. On the instructions it's actually pretty straight forward. 16,000 lbs. refers to the total weight of your vehicle. Not what the ramps will take.
      Therefore, to stay safe. Each of my ramps will support 4000 lbs. and two of the ramps will support 8000 lbs.
      That means, you should stop at a public truck scale on the hyway and weigh the front axle of your vehicle to know how much it weighs. I would do that before crawling under the truck to work on it.

      @@WorksIRL Seems it would work, but depends on the vehicle. Still would have to get the ramps under the vehicle in front of the rear wheels so need sufficient ground clearance. Could work on my pickup, but not on my car. I also have four ramps, but have never tried it. If I did this with my pickup, I'd definitely tie a heavy rope or chain to the front tow hooks to another vehicle perhaps to theoretically hold it from rolling back down the ramps.

      @@donquixote... Theoretically, it seems like it would work but when I read the small print on the. package and saw it state they shouldn't be used that way, I rather gave up thinking about it. • @donquixote...
      @donquixote... ปีที่แล้ว

      @WorksIRL I saw you guys mentioned that above. I hadn't actually read that, but as I had thought about it, I had decided I didn't think it was that great an idea. If the flat area on top were a bit longer to accommodate my truck tires better, I wouldn't see why it'd be a problem. The ramps are 16k capacity, or 32k for four ramps, and my truck weighs 7k. The capacity of each ramp is 8k, and would each only have to shoulder 1.75k each (just under 25% of their capacity). Their fine print is for their liability concerns. So if that need ever came up, and I decided to do it, I'd be sure to anchor the truck as I described above and I see no reason why it wouldn't be ok.

    Just wondering why you are so cheap to charge your own oil 😮😮😮

    • @WorksIRL
      @WorksIRL  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      🤣Clearly you've never changed your own oil or you'd know it likely costs MORE to change our own oil than having it done because you have to buy the necessary tools to do it properly and/or you splurge and use the highest quality oils and filter money can buy thinking you're saving money doing it yourself 😆! Yes, there's usually some money-saving aspect to doing tasks ourselves but truth be told, it may not be as much about saving money as it is about being self-reliant and having the peace of mind that a task is done the way one would like it to be done. Unless you're an extraordinarily lucky individual, statistically it's highly likely over time of paying others to perform work on anything you own (car, house, appliances, etc.) you will run into a frustrating situation where you paid for services not properly executed or worse...the "simple task" you expected to be performed gets botched by a supposed "professional" who just isn't very good at what they do OR they simply don't care or take pride in their work. Sadly, eventually every consumer of "professional services" generally runs into that situation. When it happens enough, one realizes it's worth investing the time performing whatever tasks one can often easily learn to do themselves and end up finding they can get it done right the first time and know it was done right. Nobody cares about your stuff more than you who had to buy it with your own hard-earned money. As it seems you haven't had to learn that hard lesson, yet...I wish you continued good luck and hope you continue to have good experiences with paying supposed "professionals" performing basic maintenance tasks on your vehicle(s). 👍
