  • What is the best paint for dark or deep base colors? In this video we go over the basic process to paint a room and why we recommend Sherwin Williams Emerald in their matt finish for painting with a deep base or dark color.

    I like this tray because it will hold a gallon of paint and you can use the empty bucket for your brush.

    This is my house, and the paint he used is SW Naval in an emerald matte finish. But as you saw, he did a dark primer first.

      Hello ,i would like to ask ,why he did it first with darker? To ge more depth? And how much layers did he put on this dark primer? One or two?

      I just painted my accent wall, bedroom door and closet door in a high gloss Naval paint color. I love this color. Makes such a bold statement. I had to do like three coats with high quality paint.

    • @nashvillehousepainters
      @nashvillehousepainters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That could take 4 coats if you are going to a clean white. the goal is to change to white as soon as you can . So start with any white. You may want to use a good white primer like Kiltz 2 . something covers well

  • @adammac4960
    @adammac4960 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The text book way that we were taught in apprenticeship was ceiling first then walls and then woodwork last but I can understand why you do the frames first when using a darker colour. I think it’s easier to cut the wall into the frames when going vertical. Get a straighter line that’s just me anyways. However it’s easier to cut the skirting into the wall horizontal as well as the wall into the ceiling horizontal that’s just me like if I’m being picky but most the time when I’m doing multiple jobs I will do it In the order I said before

    Always paint baseboards first. If you paint them last, it's much harder in my experience.

      Humm.....for me its harder to keep a straight edge if I paint them first.

    Hey sir, I recently painted my room black and I have a problem.
    Previously it was half white oil/enamel and half white normal paint. The painter painted two layers of white primer, then above those, it took 3 layers of black paint on each wall to get all black. The black we used is non-enamel, called “golden supercryl”, written on it “water base paint based upon high quality polymers pigments and fillers” and ingredients are: “acrylic binder, pigment, fillers, water.
    current problem: paint completely dried, but whenever I touch the walls lightly with my hands or if I press harder, it leaves a harsh white mark on it, it looks rubbish.. I think a proper description is, the black paint is ashy, if you touch it or rub, you can literally draw on it with your clean hand!
    I bought higher quality black paint, also “supercryl”, it’s much much better and looks better, but it also has the same white mark problem, but to a much lesser degree, can you help?

    • @nashvillehousepainters
      @nashvillehousepainters  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure about supercryl, use the emerald matt or satin finish. We have also used Behr dynasty flat/matt finish with good results

      On this one I used some left over SW supper paint satin that was a dark color. Use that same black paint that you will be doing the finish with. Unless you have some sort reason specific reason for a primer like a water stain or some other problem that you need to block out

    Interesting that you can't cover with a sheen, any missing bits. My little bathroom has a few spots like that. 🙄
    Lovely job, and thanks for the advice, I was afraid to start using dark colours because of the issues you've described. Your technique for using tape helped a lot too.

    i was painting my closet (2nd project in my life) and i had a super cheap 1dollar roller. the issue i was having, the roll was coming off all the time. i used it before. so annoying. i never used a more expensive one and it probably makes a huge difference. does it also get damaged after 1 use or you can go with it for many projects?

    I had to use Satin for a project and needed 4 coats to finally get it even, BUT it was still streaky as far as the sheen. How can I avoid that? When I back rolled it or 2nd backroll it was already taking off the color. Should I have added some paint thinner?

    • @vaderladyl
      @vaderladyl ปีที่แล้ว

      I never had that issue with satin but I take the time to wait for first coat to dry overnight and then next morning do the second coat or even a third coat if it is necessary another day. Letting it dry thoroughly does the trick.

      @@nashvillehousepainters I was wondering about that myself! Their design is almost impossible to tape; if I cut it, I would have to use such little paint on my brush, that it would take me 5 coats! And in a large room, it would drive me insane. I tried! I ended up buying a 2' metal strip w/a handle made for that purpose, but the walls HAVE to be flat, or it still ends up looking crappy.
