    You may not like everything that Chris does, but he is taking time to help some of us that are not pros. We will take his advice and advice of others and make a decision about how to proceed with our project. I greatly admire folks that are doing this because they help me learn. What brush are you using 10min in? Reason I’m asking is because I painted my walls, installed new trim with one coat of paint before installation, and now I want to do a final coat on everything (after caulk/filling nail holes) and need a super fine brush like that to get the top of my baseboards with a crisp line. Unless you would recommend more to tape the edges (walls)>caulk>paint>remove tape. Looking to get the best finished product I can, since I caulked my bedroom, never painted the caulk where it meets the walls, and now it’s getting dirty/impossible to clean. Thanks!

    I skip the drop clothes and pray no paint hits the floor. Vegas odds. JK, I throw down plastic from a roll and then just use one drop cloth and move the cloth from side to side. I hate the idea of my drop clothes getting paint on them. Pretty much defeats the idea of a drop cloth. Yep. Good idea with the roller cover having nap on the side for cutting in. You’re a professional painter I’m not, but for my own projects I’ve moved away from using a flat on the ceiling instead a slight sheen (velvet or eggshell) and I think I’m done using Swiss Coffee on the ceiling, it just seems dingy and so 2010. Not enough punch when using light colors and beiges. That paint had good coverage, was it a primer-pant. It looks like you thinned it out 10% water?

      d al I like the idea of the brush bags? I’m also on the same camp as clean TFB, but sometimes you want to go eat lunch, run to HDepot or get done fresh idea so cleaning the brushes is an exercise in futility.
      He does a pretty soft pitch so it’s not overtly pretentious for the host to mention a product and plug his e-commerce site! I think it’s done in good taste. Just my opinion.

    • @dal8963
      @dal8963 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shootsandscoots true but I value what he advises above any other information about painting and like products he tells us about, I was just surprised he would leave a brush over night in a bag, I sometimes wash my brush in the middle of using it if it stops laying paint as smoothly. No biggie I just wanted to give feed back as i know that information has value to content creators.

      Keep your roller cover off popcorn ceilings...Just spray them, way faster and your not risking pulling the popcorn off! Most ceilings that have popcorn were compromised at some point and the cheap remedy was popcorn or the construction was cheap! Old popcorn pre 1977 is likely to have asbestos, bad news for BS paying gig. POPCORN IS FOR THE MOVIE THEATER ...

    I am new to doing jobs myself so I thought I would post here about my process and see what everyone thinks.
    Cut ceilings with 6.5” purdy jumbo mini roller with white dove roller
    Roll ceilings with 9” purdy white woven
    Roll trim with 4.5” purdy jumbo mini roller with white dove roller
    Cut wall with brush and 6.5” purdy jumbo mini roller with white dove roller
    Roll wall with 18” white dove roller
    Finish with touch ups
    Post below with your ideas. I don’t have a sprayer and I am new to doing jobs on my own so I though this might be a good process for me.

    • @billh4185
      @billh4185 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do things pretty much in the same order. What type of trim are you using a 4.5" mini on? When you say you cut wall with brush and mini roller are you just using the mini for the corners? I rarely ever bust out an 18" roller unless its a big tall room with a ton of wall space. I wouldn't recommend getting a sprayer unless you have experience using one or are doing new construction. You should also know that you need to have a proper fitting respirator. I'd recommend getting a fit test. When I was in the union we had to do them annually along with a pulmonary test. I see guys in these type of videos all the time wearing nothing or improper respirators or they have the correct one but have a bunch of facial hair. Can't get a proper seal if you have beard.

      jimjk963 ceilings first, cut my low, by then ceiling cut will be dry cut my high roll walls, paint accent wall then paint trim last and be done. Been doing this since 16 years old Ive never seen no one paint like me. I use 18 inch rollers and 3 and a half inch brushes in custom homes and have never gotten called back for any tool related call backs. Else welcome to the flashing world in a room with a lot sunlight. These are basic practice if you want do it right. If flat paint basically you can skip a lot steps cause good flat paint can cover a lot imperfection.

      How? I paint walls only 1 room 12x10x 10ceiling with 2 gallons with 2 coats. How do you paint with 1 gallon in one room, maybe 1 coat? I use BM Regal Select and I can tell it look big different when compare 1 coat with 2 coats even with good paint. The paint gallon listed 350-400sqft per gallons film thin coat which is a very thin coat. There is one thing I can say cut-in after like this will flash like crazy if it is eggshell sheen or shinier. Most painters paint flat anyway so they get away from a lot of things :). Try eggshell and Pearl/satin and see how good you can paint in a room with a lot direct sunlight.

      @@greggbittman7727 90% of the new build house paint with flat, you're lucky that builder will paint eggshell or higher sheen for you :). There is reason to paint with flat paint if owner like to retouch with bad spots often in the house. Good luck with sheen higher than eggshell on spot retouch without flashing. Even BM Aura the best paint on retouch can't do well with higher sheen . SW does have some very good paint, but I think SW price is expensive as well without discount. However SW does have a lot discount to general public through out the year. Most contractor use contractor grade SW on new house. You're lucky if you can get any BM discount to general public.I have not see much SW eggshell sheen and above yet so I can't speak on behalf of it. I would only use flat sheen paint if it is Home depot or Lowes brand. The reason is their higher sheen look like kid plastic toy with shiny bright color and feel like plastic as well. 1 coat is not good for any paint on textured surfaces,1 coat is only for cover :). At least 2 coats to show good detail undertone colors in different lighting situations. Go to BM reseller and ask them how many drop off different colors to create one color name and they will tell you. I guess SW will do the same. Play with the lighting and you will see the different in 1 coat vs 2 coats.

      @@ngoichoi976 omg you are such a rookie.
      Always 2 coats. 1 gallon easy 2 coats for this room.
      And rookie again on new home construction paint jobs.
      You are cheap painter when you are painting new homes with flat paint.
      We only spray prime and back roll all new drywall (new homes).
      We use an expensive primer. Put lots on and take out time.
      Also need to use specific types of rollers made for priming only.
      Then always 2 coats Lifemasters or Diamond.
      Flwlaess finish.
      No roller or tape marks showing.
      And touch ups are simple and flawless with these 2 types of paints.
      All trim is sprayed with Breakthrough. Trim turns out smooth like lacquerd furniture.
      The best thing a professional painter should do is to stay far away from BM paints.
      Waste of money and the results are never as good as Dulux or SW paints.
      Good luck in the future painting with flat paint.
      If you want to be successful. You need to step outside of the box and try a little harder my friend.

      @@greggbittman7727 He didn't mention anything about the room size, the room got 2 windows so could be master room. Let assume walls surface in this room 200sqrt so you can technically do 2 coats with 1 gallon. Must be a small master room :). Most good paint will have no problem with color lock on spot touch up on flat sheen even after 10 years, but the higher sheen is the difficult part on spot touch up without flash. When come to spot touch up it no longer the paint color it is the higher sheen sometime is not fixable without repaint that whole wall for perfect result without flash. Most people won't see a thing direct at 6 feet far away in low light room, but with closure look can easily point out the different when look in different angles with good light source. $500k-$700k new house here in Texas builder paint walls with flat paint on knockdown :). You're lucky ask builder to upgrade sheen to eggshell or higher on walls without heavy price tag. Even with flat paint on walls I can see a lot uneven random texture and error spots show, imagine how much that will show on higher sheen. Painter do paint not a drywall contractor, and paint only as good as what it paint on to start out with :). I'll will try test Delux brand to see how touch up go after times on higher sheen. I know SW is good brand have some very good paint line as well and no one can tell BM high end line is bad either. It take a very long time to know how good the paint in different situation after it applied: color retention in different situation with a lot sunlight, how easy it apply,how easy to clean,durable, how well touch up, price,ect... all those points to tell how good the paint. I'm not a professional painter, but I know some about how paints should work with different situations.
